This Thai restaurant is within walking distance from Memorial Coliseum and serves authentic and tasty cuisine. We arrived around 6:40p on. Friday night. Even though they normally seat and serve immediately, there was a shortage of staff this night. We had to wait a good while before we were seated. Then, there was additional 10 min wait before we were served water or asked about drinks. However, once our order was taken, the food came really quickly and was piping hot. The vegetarian eggroll, filled with cabbage and carrots, was fresh and fried crispy. The outer portion was not too thick or hard, which is just the way that I prefer my egg rolls. Any much perusing of the menu, I chose the basil chicken with a "hot" spicy level. I also ordered a Thai Ice tea, which comes with cream. The cream helps to neutralize the spicy food. So that you can actually taste the flavors without you mouth being "on fire" from the spiciness. I really enjoyed my dining experience. Ordered via DoorDash one Saturday afternoon. I had the "drunken noodles". I use quotations because they weren't really drunken noodles. They don't use the flat rice noodles. Instead, they use a regular, thin rice noodle. They also throw in little cherry tomatoes, so I think it's more like a 'use whatever we have in the kitchen noodles'. I know it wasn't a mistake because two of my friends also ordered drunken noodles, and received the same thing. The actual flavor wasn't bad but I just didn't care for the swap. If they ran out of the flat noodles, it would have been nice for a head's up, because I probably would have just ordered something else. But judging from some of these other photos, the other dishes don't look that great either. read more

The food was delicious and fast. They may have just opened for lunch. There was no wait. The menus are small to make sure you can have a peak at what you want and order. The set up is interesting. Good thing that it's good food. Because the location is under the actual little shopping center. Have no fear though. It doesn't give you a vibe that you will get accosted by a stranger lol. Then again I haven't been to this location at night. There is outside seating but it's inside but located outside if that makes sense. I did take a pic so you can see for yourself. I think a picture is worth a thousand words. But don't think your convinced stop in and see for yourself. I did like the dumplings I ate for an appetizer and my lunch was actually sesame chicken. Which was fresh and yummy. There was a honey infused soy sauce which I had not tasted before. That sat on the table to have with what you like. I didn't get the actual name of it. It may be something simple but it didn't have a name. So it may be something that they make in house. Either way it was delicious when you put it on your pot sticker and the rice that came with my sesame chicken. With that being said. Stop in and try this spot out. I enjoyed and you should as well. Let me preface this by saying I am not a big eater by any means: your average restaurant meal will be 1.5-2 meals for me. However, the not-so-"Super Noodle" takeout order I received was so small, I had to eat something else, and it seemed like barely-cooked broccoli made up nearly half the meal. This review is based on my one time visit, and chicken Pad Thai was what I ordered. I'll try to make this one short. It was the only Thai place in town that I hadn't tried. It's on campus, but on a corner and easy to find... As long as you know to look for the awning and steps. It's sort of got a basement feel to it. I think it's been at this location for a while, the decor and atmosphere have an old feel to it, but they do have a 100% listed from the Health inspection. I always go for the Pad Thai on my first venture to a Thai place, so it was no different here. It was garnished with one carrot sliver, and five thin bits of chicken within the pile of noodles. The noodles weren't lacking in flavor, but they were dry... Like the times that I've had Pad Thai warmed up in the microwave the next day. So I added a dash of soy sauce to dampen it up a bit. It was still probably the worst Pad Thai that I've had in Lexington. My husband ordered the chicken cashew something or other, and it too was lacking the amount of chicken that it should've had. The portion was small for a dinner portion. But he seemed to enjoy it. We each had an egg roll prior to our meals, but had we not, I would note that even my portion was smaller than most Pad Thai dinner entrees elsewhere. But it was perfect sized after I consumed scrumptious egg roll. Note to the business: don't be skimpy with the main ingredient, if you want satisfied or returning customers, and turn the tv from Thai tv... at least during March Madness. read more

My how the mighty have fallen. Bangkok House used to be a pretty respectable Thai option. Not the best in Lexington -- which has been and always will be Planet Thai -- but at least decent. Not anymore though. I should say that I'd probably give Bangkok House two stars except that it does not deserve (and never did, really) the 4-star average rating it has. Hence the 1 star. I went here this past weekend on a visit home to the bluegrass. We walked in around 8 on a Friday evening to an empty restaurant. I ordered Red Curry Pad Ped with beef. The beef was Taco Bell grade, and the curry was almost flavorless. Everyone of the 6 people in my party remarked that their portion sizes were rather small. Particularly if you were to order a seafood entree for upwards of $12, the portions did not match the prices, especially in comparison to other Thai restaurants. My poor experience this time around makes me long even more for the Skyline Chili that used to be in this location 20 years ago. read more

"Best Thai in Lexington"?! Wow... I had duck pad thai on a Tuesday evening and I even ordered one of "the best egg rolls of any Asian restaurant in the city" (Jeff J, 2008). I'm glad there's the caveat "in the city" for the last statement, because I'm pretty sure I've had frozen egg rolls that tasted better. It wasn't bad, but I don't think I'd go out and proclaim it as king. Perhaps it was an off day, but my pad thai was pretty terrible as far as pad thais go - noodles were lackluster and lumpy!, the seasoning was predictably on the sweet side, the duck was unfortunately dry and clearly from the prehistoric era. Even so, they were kind enough to make my dish a game of 'Duck Hunt' so I had fun fishing through noodles for the five meager shreds of duck to appear. Pew pew, I win... Service was pretty warm, though perhaps too warm. As a dining partner said, "I wish he'd stop molesting my water." Whatever, I like my water cup full - I say thanks. I'll probably come back and try something else if only because I'm on campus and don't want to get Mexican. So random! Definitely a family-owned place and they take pride in their customers which is always a plus, but the food is just average. Other people have said it is the best thai in lexington, and if that is true....well.....if you are thai you might not want to live here, or you may want to live here and open up your own thai restaurant and make some good money! ha ha We got the pad thai and the yellow curry with shrimp....the professor I went with always orders the pad thai and it is her favorite, but she is a vegetarian and there are lots of veggie options. I came here several times a few years back and it was not my top favorite Thai place but it was still decent. Sadly, it seems like this place has changed for the worse in the last 2-3 years. On a recent visit, the atmosphere felt completely depressing. May be because I went there on a week night and the place was not packed, but it felt like the owner/staff didn't care much about anything. One of them had a bucket of soapy water and was cleaning tables and chairs right next to us.. Food was so so..I ordered a noodle dish . Taste was ok but the portion of noodles was small and it looked like everything was swimming in a sauce..didn't seem like the person who cooked it cared anything about it.. I'll start off with this is a family owned Thai restaurant. They even grow their own fresh herbs. They are friendly and prompt . They will cook to order . Even when they have a full house of customers, you get a friendly attitude and do not feel rushed. That alone wins points! I'm not one to care for egg rolls, but these are the bomb! I have to have one or two any time I come here. They have a sauce on the table that goes with them. I'm Not sure what it is made of, but it has a honey texture, and really compliments the egg roll . You do Not want to drown it in sauce, but just a little for that little extra pizazz! I highly recommend it. Their pad Thai is the best I've ever had. When I crave pad Thai, no other will do! They have a wonderful mausaum curry, pineapple chicken and eggplant dishes ! I'm sure they have even more wonderful dishes , but I can't seem to get past the above listed dishes. Their menu is a small book with plenty of selections! There's something for everyone. They have a nice selections of meats to chose from ( or no meat at all). It might interest you to know one of the meat selections is duck. Nice selections, but different varieties which makes it hard to chose! Best thai food I have had in the entire state. The yellow curry chicken and seasonal thai pumpkin curry are a flavor party in your mouth. The folks who run this place are also extremely friendly. The location is a little hard to find (its underground) but the food is amazing and busy. Best egg rolls I have also ever had at any asian restaurant period. I'm not sure why they are so good but they are. I highly recommend the yellow curry, masamun curry, panang curry, seasonal thai pumpkin curry, beef salad and chicken satay. The thai iced tea is rich and by far the best I have had anywhere. Reasonably priced. The only drawback I can think of is they are not in Louisville where I live now and do not deliver. read more

Passable, mediocre Thai food. It will fill you up, and is better than fast food or typical buffet Chinese, but is not particularly outstanding. Now, if you've never had good Thai cuisine before, you will probably think this place is incredible. The place itself is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, you go down a flight of stairs to the basement of a strip mall to find it. Done right, this could lead to some nice atmosphere or ambiance, but they don't capitalize on it like they could. In the late 90's I lived right across the street from this place for a couple of years. I ate here a lot and thought it was incredible. Then, as I went to other Thai places I realized it was actually pretty mediocre. Not bad, but nowhere near as good as the reputation it has. I honestly think a lot of its reputation is due to it being right next to the UK campus and probably the first Thai place a lot of students will ever eat at, especially ones coming from rural areas where Thai food is not typically served. I went back here not too long ago when I was in the neighborhood, and found that either it had gone downhill, or I had really developed a higher standard for Thai cooking. The curry was very mild even after I asked for it to be spicy, the portion size was below average, and the food was slightly overpriced for what it was. It was still decent, and I've had worse, but it is not as outstanding as I remembered it once being. If you're a UK student living on campus, and don't have access to a car, this is a decent option for having a sit-down meal near campus, and the only real Asian restaurant near campus. That's the best endorsement I can give this place. read more

The best part about this restaurant is it's convenient location to the UK campus. That's about it. I think since they know they are so conveniently located they don't particularly try hard in any department- decor, service, food. The service is okay. The staff isn't rude but they aren't going out of their way for their customers either. I think I would put up with it if their food was amazing but it's really not. It's just bland, not particularly flavorful food that happens to be Thai. It's the kind of food you eat because you are hungry and it fills a void. I have been going here for years & it's one of my favorite places in lex. I've had a bunch of different entrees & all of them have been so great. My favorites are the Pad Thai, Lo Mien, & the fried rice. The location is super convenient because of its proximity to campus & I feel that pricing is super reasonable. The only way it's lacking is that service, but considering it's usually the owner who is the only person serving I always cut him some slack. He is friendly and gets your food out quick. read more

I can't speak to the authenticity of the cuisine served at Bangkok House. But the two times I've been there have been satisfying. Lunch ranges from $7 to $12. They have many Thai options. I can't believe some people have given this place 1 star reviews. Fastfood is 1-star. Bangkok house is 4-star. I got the yellow curry with chicken earlier today. A friend and I got there just as the place opened at 11 AM for an early lunch. The curry was served in a soup bowl alongside a plate of rice. The waiter asked if I wanted my curry spicy, and I said yes. The portion was about right for lunch. It hurt so good. The flavor was all there. The chicken was tender, and the spicy curry was creamy and delicious. The potatoes seemed just barely done (could have used another hour, but I was an earlybird). My nose was running, but it was so flavorful. The dining area is nice, and it has a particular feel to it. It's certainly not upscale, but there's a cohesiveness of design that works. Service was quick and the water glasses were full. If you are on the UK campus, this place is a close and serves up a delicious hot meal. For the $8, I'd say it's worth it. read more

One of my first restaurants in Lexington and I loved it. I am a person who belive in respect and having great customer service and this place has it in spades. The lady who cooks the food is the sweetest person ever. She came over and talked to us and it was so comforting. The atmosphere is very chill with the plants and with just the right amount of light.
