When I arrived after driving all the way from Oceanside they tell me I can't be seen until 230 because the vet is on lunch. They tells me they called me however I don't have any missed calls, no voicemails, no emails no communication whatsoever that I can't be seen at my COMFIRMED appointment time. And to claim you called me 3 times yet not once did you leave a voicemail isThey really expect me to have my cats in a tiny carrier for 2 and a half hours because of their mistake. Really speaks to how they care about animals. I asked why I can't be seen at 2 when the vet gets back from lunch and they claim someone is scheduled at 2. Ok well I'm here and they aren't so politely call and ask to bump them down. They refused. This place does not care about animals at all and care even less about the customer or their time. Banfield as a brand is just ok, but very convenient they have so many locations available throughout the area. The staff at the facility is fantastic. I would rather drive further from my original Banfield location to this one because of the quality of care provided by Dr. Lee and Dr. Huang. Both ladies are extremely knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to my dog and setting him up for his wellness over the last few years. Previously, Dr. Huang and her care team did an amazing job with our late cat who had ongoing kidney disease and asthma. She provided the best advice and care which allowed us extra time with our cat before it was time for him to cross over the rainbow bridge. read more

We have been taking our pets to Banfields for the past 10 years. Both our dogs are insured under the Banfield Wellness plan. This location lacks in the excellent patient care and professionalism that our pets have received at other Banfields. We brought our 3.5 year old dog in because she was showing symptoms of Giardia. This is not the first time the 3.5 year old had Giardia. When we first brought home our 1.5 year dog she had Giardia and passed it to our older pup. The Escondido vet said that it was important to treat both dogs simultaneously. The vet also noted that it was possible that we would have to go through multiple rounds of treatment to fully clear the virus. So, unfortunately we are familiar with this virus. We are about 9 months removed from the first case. This time we responded as soon as we noticed the symptoms. Unfortunately, we went to the Poway Banfield instead of the Escondido Banfield. We requested that the Poway vet test the 3.5 year old's poop for Giardia --standard test low cost. They insisted that they should run full bloodwork on the pup as well -- an additional $130. Though I knew it was not necessary I said ok. The test came back negative. They then ran the test I requested, the pup came back positive for Giardia. I asked for them to treat both of our dogs simultaneously. They initially refused and said that they would have to run bloodwork on the 1.5 year old pup before giving her the medicine. After some back and forth they decided not to make us pay for a pointless test and gave us medication for both dogs. The process was contentious for no reason. As noted by the Escondido vet, sometimes you have to go through multiple rounds of medicine before the virus is cleared. Sure enough our dog presented with Giardia three days after she stopped taking the medicine. I called the Poway vet at 3:30p on Saturday and they told me they would not give us another round of medicine. Yep, they said no. They told me we had to bring the dog back in for more bloodwork because today's vet did not trust the work of the previous Poway vet. Keep in mind, Giardia is tested via stool sample not bloodwork. Furthermore there is nothing to trust. Testing positive for Giardia is not an opinion based outcome, it's straight and simple science. When I informed them that the blood work was not necessary, she told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that I should just take my pup to the emergency room. For clarity purposes, I do know what I am talking about. I am a biochemistry professor ;-) When I hung up the phone with the Poway vet nothing was resolved. My pups had no medicine and the vet told me not to bring my dog to their clinic. So, I called the Escondido clinic --which is what I should have done in the first place. I explained the situation to them and they immediately requested our pet's files and formally transferred our dog's care to the Escondido office. And just like that our pets are getting good care. This clinic made me pay for a non-necessary bloodwork, initially denied treating one of my dogs, tried to force me to pay for the same bloodwork again, then decided not to treat my dogs. This is what it looks like when you are bad at your job. Unfortunately, when your job is in the medical field, being subpar has substantial ramifications. read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I was very surprised by the unprofessionalism displayed by the workers here. From the person at the front desk to the vet assistant to the vet herself, I was shocked. Everyone had an attitude and no one seemed happy to be there. I had asked some questions that I had because I thought it was a safe space for concerns and I am a new pet owner. When they took my dog from me and went into the exam room, I overheard the assistant and the veterinarian making fun of my questions and me by default. I heard them yelling at my dog and heard her whining constantly. While she is nervous in her nature, that experience really put me off. If you're trusted with people's pets, parts of their family, you should have some semblance of empathy and compassion and understanding. I will not be returning and honestly wish I could make this more known because I don't trust them with my animal and don't think they have our own interests or pets best interests at heart. Do better, these are people's lives and loved ones you're caring for. You should care. read more

To be honest, I really am not impressed with this place. Although the staff is super nice (props to Jen trying to help me and my situation), we really had a pretty confusing and misleading experience which leads me to not want to come back to Banfield Poway. Long story short: husband took dog here to get checked out, he declined the medicine because he want to talk to me first. After I decided that we should give our dog the medicine, he calls back to tell the receptionist we changed our minds and wanted the medicine. He told her that we were going to pick it up the next day and she said it would be ready by then. I was there when he made the phone call so I can personally confirm she told him that the meds would be available the next day. I went to pick up the meds the next day and somehow there was no records of the vet prescribing the medicine but rather the vet making a note saying the medicine was "recommended". I have never had this issue with any other vet. Why did the receptionist tell us that it would be available to be picked up the next day if there were no records? Although the staff tried to help me in the situation (and they were very nice about it), they didn't fix anything even though it wasn't really my fault. Two days later, I get a call from someone telling me to call the Point Loma vet because that was the vet who saw my dog since their regular vet was sick that day and the Point Loma Vet was covering. At this point, I didn't even want to deal with them anymore. We paid $50 for a visit and ended up getting nothing. I've experienced better Banfield locations and am very disappointed with my experience and am still baffled as to why the receptionist told us the meds would be ready to be picked up by the next day? If this situation didn't happen, I would have gladly given them 5 stars because the staff that I interacted with were really nice and followed up with me. I'll probably go to a different Banfield for my petcare needs. read more

Our family dog has been a patient for years and kept returning due to her wellness plan. She started having respiratory issues last month and we brought her in for further investigation. The Banfield team ran some tests and we were told everything looked "normal" besides a heart murmur. They didn't treat her for the heart murmur and had no explanations for her symptoms. They insisted she was fine to continue with her annual vaccines the following week despite her shallow rapid breathing. We thought it was odd and felt uncomfortable with proceeding, but trusted the team with their assessment. Our dog has since passed as of yesterday. To say we are devastated is an understatement. We rushed her to the ER after acute signs of distress and made the heartbreaking decision to let her go after learning that her heart murmur may have led to her congestive heart failure and pulmonary edema. Our pets are our family. I don't believe our dog received the best care at Poway Banfield and I'm sorry that we entrusted her care with them. read more

Nicole the receptionist was very unhelpful and lacked any customer service skills. I was picking up a prescription for my mom because her dog has not been acting normal ever since she got a procedure done there. I'm talking complete and total personality change. We were very concerned. Anyways I called to say I was parked out front and here to get the prescription and I was put on hold. Well I can see the receptionist through the window and nobody was in the building and since I would have had to go in the building to pay for the prescription Anyways I just hung up and went inside. instead of letting me pay for the prescription and leave which would have taken 30 seconds to 2 minutes she told me to have a seat, she had already invited another customer who was waiting in her car to come in. Well she didn't come in for another minute or two so I could have already been done and left. Of course this customer is signing up for a membership and has a dozen questions and after 12 minutes, three spent on hold and nine spent waiting and they're waiting room I decided this was absurd and left. I definitely feel the receptionist Nicole went out of her way to be difficult. When I called my mom to notify her why I was unable to pick up the prescription She called Banfield and they proceeded to blame the whole thing on me and said it was completely my fault. I will never do business with these people agajn something so simple like picking up a prescription turned into a nightmare, headache and a ridiculous ordeal. I took my brand new puppy here for a checkup last fall and left on the verge of tears. My puppy was born with a cherry eye and I wanted more information on it along with just a normal checkup to make sure she was healthy. I can't remember the Veterinarians name but she was very rude. She told me right away that she's a very blunt person, which is fine. However, right off the bat she told me that her cherry eye would cost us a lot of money and we should just take her back to wherever we got her. She then proceeded to ask if I even wanted her to finish the exam! I almost cried right then and there. Who tells someone to just get rid of their dog like that and then not even what to finish the exam that I scheduled? I have to say though, everyone else I encountered there was friendly and pleasant, but I will never come back there read more

I brought my shihtzu in 8/23 as I had figured out he had dermatitis from searching online. He was 9 yrs old. They brought out a list of treatments adding up to over $350. I was there on a "free" consultation. I said I would try antibiotics for ten days? They said one week. They sold me some for $11 and I left. I had left work early, gone home & picked up the pet. I get home & there is 2 pills in the Bottle? I called the next day & they said cut the pills into 4??? They never asked me what the dogs eats. He smelled so bad after 4 days I gave him countless baths, he was scratching, paw licking. I went on Chewy's website in Dec. & realized there is pet food for dogs with skin sensitivites & they had mentioned he has allergies, so I tried it. Worked!! They are there to cram $350 down your throat & if I didn't change the FOOD, it would have all been for nothing. All the water I used bathing, all his discomfort.......Let's start caring about the PETS & NOT the cash register. read more

The puppy plan is about the only real reason to come to this place more than once. Kennel-side manner is seriously lacking in these vets. My dog does really well at the groomers, but I get preached at by two of the vets about my dog's behavior. I could hear her crying, not growling or barking, while being handled by the vets. Pretty sure they need to learn a bit more about animal behavior, not just biology. The staff was always pleasant, it was just the doctors that were annoying. I don't know who has tried to visit a Banfield pet Hospital recently, but they are being horribly run. Just this morning, I've called 5 different Banfields to try to get an appointment for my dog, and there is either a message saying, "this hospital is currently closed", or "we're sorry, but because of the availability of vets, we have no available appointments in the near future." We invested in the Wellness Plan for our dog, which is approximately $60 a month. Not being able to get an appointment when my dog is sick, is unacceptable! I would highly recommend you bring your pets to a different veterinary office and, whatever you do, do NOT invest in their wellness plan! read more

Major Up charging My dog needed a minor out patient procedure on a Sunday. We just moved here so I don't know the local vets, but we found they Banfield was open and had space. The initially estimate that gave me was insane, and included 2 drugs that do the same thing, and a wound wrapping that would be unnecessary for the procedure. I don't tell vets when I first meet them that I have experience in the veterinary world, because I want to see how honest they would be. Well isn't it so funny that price dropped 80 dollars after the vet found out I knew what I was talking about, and the wrapping and the extra drug were suddenly not needed after all! Hmmm. I don't trust that this place values my dogs well being over making money, so I won't go back. Additionally, the vet tech/assistant I dealt with really scared me and almost made me take my dog and wait until vets were open on Monday. She told me that a pain medicine was a sedative. :/ no sweetie, it's not a sedative, but it can be used in combination with sedatives, but she basically was like "yeah I don't know". Also she only barely had control of my 25 lb dog, and he almost jumped off the table a few times. read more

DO NOT GET THE WELLNESS PLAN WITH BANFIELD! They sell it like insurance, it is not insurance. The amount of money you actually end up spending for everything if your pet is ever hurt or sick, on top of your monthly payments, is ridiculous. Think of an emergency surgery, someone with no wellness plan will come in and one of the things they'll be charged for is anesthesia, in 15 minute increments. That person, who has not paid hundreds of dollars per year for a "wellness plan" will pay $55 for every 15 min of anesthesia used in that surgery (on top of many other charges for many other things) Someone who has been paying for a wellness plan will pay: $49 for every 15 minutes (on top of all the same charges for all the other same things) That's the discount you get for a wellness plan. $6 of anesthesia. That's where all your money goes. Because, as a Banfield vet assistant finally explained to me as I was staring at a golf ball sized lump on my 4 pound pomeranians back, "It's not really insurance, I know the wording is tricky, it's more like a discount membership and it doesn't apply to most things" I am honestly at the point where I believe that Banfield does not care about your pet, that golf ball sized lump? I took her in to Banfield when it was the size of a peanut and asked them to test it. Vet: No, I don't need to test it, it will be a lot of money just for me to tell you what I can already see. It's just a small cyst and it will go away. I asked her to test it or remove it to be sure and the vet replied "I don't want to do anything that isn't necessary, I'll give her antibiotic pills and pain meds for the pain you say she's in" Antibiotics and pain meds are not covered by the plan, I know because this is the 10th time I've been sent home with them because they refused to just let me pay for a test or something that would solve the problem then and there. The next week, I was out of town and my dogs lump grew practically over night and burst so I had to take her into Banfield for a very expensive emergency surgery that could have been avoided. Their first priority is making as much money as possible, not your pet. I'd like to say it's just Banfield as a corporation but the theme remains with the individual veterinarians as well (at least the ones I've had at two different locations, La Jolla and Poway) I could go into the first THREE TIMES that I brought my dogs in for things that I said were emergencies only to be told that it is not an emergency and that I should leave it alone and buy pain meds and antibiotics. Only to have to come back in a few weeks later with a bigger problem. I am not exaggerating this. Several times I have had to walk into Banfield worried my dog might die because of a problem that I took them in for before it got bad. When my rottweiller was a puppy, he had very bad digestive problems, Banfield had me bring him in for multiple expensive surgeries, had me buy a bunch of expensive meds and put him on a very expensive prescription dog food. A couple years later I found out on my own that it's a common issue with Rotties and that all he needed were some holistic digestive drops. And if you're thinking the check ups that you get are worth it, think again. I took my rottweiller there for 4 years, they never told me anything was wrong with him in the check ups. Then when he was 4, I sent him to a dog hotel while I was out of town and the dog hotel vet told me that he had a lump in his mouth that turned out to be cancer that killed him within a couple months. No Banfield check up ever noticed this, so I have to wonder what the point of those check ups are. Sorry for the long review but if I can help one person really know what they're getting into with a Banfield wellness plan, then I'm glad. read more

It takes a lot for me to write a 5 star review, however, everyone at Banfield in Poway deserves it and then some! Both vets take their time and are provide very extensive exams. I never feel rushed even when asking tons of questions. I don't feel they overcharge and they also have these great wellness programs that pay for themselves more than once over when dealing with a purebred dog! The office staff is super friendly and it's extremely clean without feeling sterile and uncomfortable. My puppy normally is fearless until it comes to going to the vet. Not this one however and that was what impressed me the most. She even gave Dr. Snider a kiss during her examination! No shakiness or anything!! I wish I would have known that they were brand new when I moved back to town a few months ago and prior to me going to two other vets I wasn't super impressed or happy with, Banfield greeted us with a super warm welcome, and this particular branch is ranked 9 out of 400 nationwide! That's GOT to say something. They can also view your records at any location which is definitely convenient if you were to ever move. This is a stand alone location aside from a Petsmart which I have never seen and was actually quite skeptical to receive decent care from a vet inside of a store, however, my mind is now completely at ease. These doctors have a level of competence in which I have yet to see elsewhere AND my dog loves them! Yay for Banfield in Poway, it's worth the longer drive than to choose the closer vet to me. For those of you that care; they have an awesome Flavia machine in the waiting room with more flavors than Starbucks (and I'm at Starbucks daily) a decent array of treats and special foods for the animals, and they are so confident you will like them, they offer a free first visit just to check them out! Everyone likes free and high tech!! Oh and one more thing I love at this place is the vet is always waiting for you in the room when they call you from the waiting room so you aren't waiting forever before they see you!! LOVE that feature and Dr. Sorrels is amazing and has saved me so much money so far with his amazing techniques! Where else do you hear that from a vet?! Lol... They are open 7 days a week, and later in the days for those who work an 8-5! They even have drop off service! Way more convenient and nice that you don't have to go to the ER after 5pm like normal vets :) I'm afraid to shout out so there's no more appointments left but I do feel people in the area should definitely try them out!! We initially went here because of the wellness program for puppies. It's an affordable, monthly payment program that is all-inclusive. I loved the fact that unlimited office visits are included in the plan because, in the event of something happening, you won't have to pay the usual $50 office visit to the vet (that seems default to all vets). I did a price comparable to another local vet that I was considering and the pricing for the year came out pretty close but Banfield was a little more expensive but included a bit more. We made our first appointment because my puppy was due for shots. We obviously wanted to check out the place, staff and experience prior to committing to anything. The facility is extremely clean, modern and feels welcoming. The front desk staff and techs have all been extremely nice, on the phone and in person. We met the vet during our first visit and she was pleasant but nothing spectacular. My husband said he heard nothing but $$$ talk but I think I understood more because I was the one that did all the research. She was making it completely clear that the wellness plan covers wellness and is not an insurance. That takes me to my next suggestion. I read another reviewer saying they were very upset because of the contract and its terms. I think it's common sense to ask about the terms of the contract before ever signing up. I believe you're bound by a year, regardless of your circumstance. I actually had someone ask me, "Do you just make the monthly payments until you're done with the shots and get him neutered?" I was surprised by that question because I personally believe that it's common sense to not even assume that. Any location would lose out on too much money if they did business like that. I am finishing the last round of shots and will be getting my puppy neutered soon. I will see how that procedure goes and will keep my review updated. Today, I took my lovely dog, Jake, to them for comprehensive check up and he got to see Dr. Andy Scott. He called me shortly after I dropped him off and told me he wants to sedate Jake, to clean his ears and he was very detailed about my little dogs health! Procedures finished very fast. Everything from A-Z finishing in 3 hours! They dismissed Jake after 3 pm, very fresh and healthy. The lady that brought him out to the car, Macy, she was very friendly and was very careful and gentle with my dog! I just want to take this opportunity to refer them to all pet owners! This place is terrible! Don't believe me? Let me give you some examples... 1) so I have one dog on the Active Prevention Plan and the other on a Puppy Plan. At one point they tell me that it's better to upgrade my pup to the Active Prevention Plan. It's $$ more every month but I get more benefits for my dog and nothing is taken away that he already gets. So I say ok let's do it. Fast forward a couple months and I go to schedule my pups neuter and they tell me, "oh that's only on the puppy Plan and you don't have that anymore". We go back and forth on this for a while but in the end they upsold me, took away the free neuter I WOULD have had available, and wouldn't honor it. Great business right? 2) at my dogs comprehensive exams they tell me my dogs have allergies and need medication. I'm a bit surprised by this because my dogs don't really show any symptoms with the exception of one. So I ask about it, "what do they have, how do you know" etc... they tell me one dog has "environmental" allergies and that's why he has some little bumps on his tummy. The other dog they say has the same. I disagree but ask how they know... they say..."does he ever scratch a lot?", I tell them "no" They say..."does he lick his paws?", I tell them "no" They say..."does he rub his face on the carpet or bed?", I tell them "no". They still insist he has allergies and want to put both dogs on meds that would cost $1,200 A MONTH! Are you fcking kidding me? I wouldn't pay that for myself! In the end I buy the medicated shampoo they recommend for $40 or whatever, give my pup Benadryl from Costco and the bumps went away. BEWARE- BANFIELD IS A SELLING MACHINE!!! 3) during a comprehensive exam they tell me my dog needs a tooth X-ray because it had endured trauma at one point and likely won't repair itself. I ask if an X-ray is necessary if they know the tooth won't repair itself, wouldnt an extraction be the end result anyway? The doctor agrees and says, "yes, you could just get it extracted and forgo the X-ray". So I make an appointment for the tooth extraction.... Not only did they not extract the tooth that the appointment was actually for they decided to extract a different tooth instead, telling me that it needed it more. I asked why they didn't extract the one I made the appointment for and they tell me, "well it's kind of an important tooth, structurally, so you should get X-rays first". I honestly can't believe the retards they have working here. They lie, they misinform, and they upsell every chance they get. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL MY CONTRACT IS OVER, I WILL NEVER USE BANFIELD AGAIN FOR ANY PET FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. And I will steer all my family and friends far away from this place. read more

I was told they would call me with an update and a quote if anything needs to be done to my puppy. Of course, it was a clear misrepresentation. They did not call me. Six hours passed and 2 pm I called them. They said I could come in and pick her up at 2 :30 pm with out any explanation. They gave her shots for lepto without asking me first?? Then I arrive at 4:45 pm and my pup was acting weird and I knew she had to go potty based on her actions. I asked them if they took her out to the bathroom, and Dr. Kat just acted immaturely and said well dogs hold it in for 12 hours, with a change in demeanor. Well I do not know one pup that can hold it in for 12 hours. You never even asked what time she last went to the bathroom. This would be a non issue if your team got back to me in a few hours. Pls note if you do not mind paying Double the price of meds, and paying for the convenience then buy it there. They did not give a refund once I paid for it. Thank you, I would recommend NOT using Banfield. They have some issues to work out from the customer's perspective. Took our new puppy in today for her first initial visit! From the time we walked in the staff was absolutely amazing! Dr. Snyder was already in the exam room waiting for us when we were called back, that never happens anywhere! Dr Snyder did a full exam and then explained everything to us in detail and answered any questions we had! The vet techs were amazing and we got out lab results back so quickly! Both vet techs also made sure we knew what was going on and before we left the Dr. also came and talked to us! I was very pleased and will be making this my new vet for my other dog as well! read more

Great experience. They take really great care of my dog. They are convenient and open when I need them. I've had a few times over the years when I needed Teddy (my dog) seen right away and they were always accommodating. Getting the prevention plan was a GREAT investment in my dogs health. Teddy Bear doesn't show fear or anxiety when we go there. I can tell he gets wonderful care while he is there (which is sometimes all day due to my work schedule) and I can tell he has had a good day. read more

This place is really awesome from the front office staff to Dr Kat who is just the best! My lab was really sick and we worked through the treatment plan in the most cost effective way. Her love for all animals is very apparent and I was so impressed with the full service that I brought my other dog in the next day! I love my new vet clinic. Still here with my lab!! I was a member for a few years until I brought my dog to the Poway location and the vet (Dr. Gill) who saw my dog diagnosed him with bladder stones and made it sound like i needed to schedule a big surgery at a specialty hospital as soon as possible. He made it sound like my dog would, without warning suddenly pass the stones and need emergency surgery and that I should schedule it right away. My dog was older and this vet carelessly and impatiently gave me the bad news over the phone and expected a decision immediately. I was very upset at this news and disturbed the vet gave me no time to make this serious decision. I got a second opinion from a coworkers husband who is a retired vet and learned surgery was not necessary and that many dogs have bladder stones without problems let alone the need for risky surgery. I'm happy to have gone to Dr Singh in Poway who is kind and knowledgeable and caring about pets and their caregivers. I would never recommend Banfield after my experience with them. read more

I purchased a plan with Banfield for my Yorkie , Monday night I went in and was told the Dr was in emergency surgery . Tonight I went back with my dog Chico , we thought he had a cisk on his head . After checking in and going to exam room , I waited on Dr but she didnt show the nurse ask if she could take Chico back to see Dr , without me , nurse came back said yes cisk , I ask of Dr was going to take care of it , she said no , Dr didnt feel good , she said maybe it would burst on its on . Needless to say I was pissed , why pay for a medical plan just to be turned away ???Thinking about changing Vet . NOT HAPPY read more
