1First Bank - ATM's take no deposits, you have to deposit into this wooden box on the left. Drive through teller is also very slow!

Opening a bank account out in USVI is an all day event. I walked into this location, amazed with…read morehow nice the facility is but didn't realize that behind the pretty marble, trendy decor and frosted glass are policies and systems designed to make you wonder of how this place manages to operate. My husband arrived in USVI first and selected this bank only because his company banks with them. So it can't be that bad right?! Well think again. To open up another account to hook it up to his existing account my hubby still had to bring in 2 forms of photo ID to prove he was who he was. So we had to return. It's a good idea to bring with you 2 photo IDs, your social security card, proof of your physical address (rental agreement, utility bill car title etc) and you'll need to also have a mailing address which here is a pain in the butt to set up bc it'll require you to go get a USVI drivers license at that rancid place called the BMV. Ok, so to make this not an all day event, arrive an hour before the place closes. Employees want to go home so we've found out they work faster than if you go earlier in the AM. So with banks stateside the rep you're working with can transfer money between an existing account into a new one with a transfer deposit slip however here it's not the case. My husband was asked to go outside to the ATM and withdraw money to transfer into his new account. Wow that's dumb. He comes back and the ATM machines are not working so where does that leave us? Well delayed because they guy helping us now has to go outside to fix the ATM. He gets delayed even further by assisting another customer. I'm so for customer service, this island is in dire need of embracing it, but customer service is also helping customers in the order that they came in. So new accounts are set up but we leave with nothing printed (like how they do with other banks) of the information for our new account. I'd assume that would be helpful like let's say if someone were trying to set up direct deposit for work, like me! SMH! Next we had to add me to both accounts and were asked to fill out W-9's to do so. Really?Between my husband and I we have probably about 35 years of HR management experience and a W-9 is used to generate a 1099 for independent contractors employed by a business. It states that you don't have to pay payroll taxes bc as a contractor you're responsible for paying them yourself. We are trying to add me to existing accounts not be contracted by First Bank. Strange rules out here! I also thought it was strange that they wanted us to use the checks with my hubbys name on it and not issue new checks with both our names as I was added to the accounts....whatever.....my brain power being wasted on trying to comprehend all this is not worth the effort. The kicker are the tellers here, I'm not sure about these gals but stateside tellers have to hit quotas by selling banking products. Here you're lucky if you even get a "how are you?" after hello because they are so involved in taking with each other there is no engagement with customers. How can you promote banking products if you don't even talk to your customers?! Lastly if you're a tourist, bring lots of cash with you. Banks here charge crazy ATM fees and lots of business here don't do cards. I withdrew $40 with my stateside account and was charged by First Bank $11 for doing so.... WTF?! Sounds like times are tough that they have to charge fees that high, but upon experiencing this bank for a few days I can see of why they would be in trouble.

"Difficult to do business with" ? Maybe "Impossible to do business with" would be more accurate…read more Have made three trips to bank to open a savings account. On third trip, was told we need to "make an appointment". Asked if we could schedule the appointment for another day while we were there. Told "No, we needed to call to make appointment." Called bank and got no answer. I'll stop there.
