I went to the branch the following day with an Italian friend and was told that the matter would be cleared up within 15 business days. I thought that was outrageous but then, hey, it's Italy. It is now August 29, 2016 and I have yet to receive anything. BNL has been ignoring my contact attempts and when they do respond they pass me off to someone else. Today I received an email saying that the onus was on me to fix the problem through my own bank. My bank, like myself, was ignored by BNL after waiting in good faith the 15 day period. I feel I have been robbed of 500 euro by a major European bank. It's nothing to them but a lot to me. During my holiday I had to borrow from friends. I was ashamed. Yet, BNL has no shame. Whatever you do AVOID BNL!! They have done nothing but give both me and my bank a runaround. They have been rude, non-responsive and shameless.
