This is a small park located near the Inner Harbor. There is a limited amount of metered street parking available and an over-priced garage within a reasonable walking distance. I recommend trying to find metered parking, for obvious reasons, if available. The memorial was dedicated in 1980 and cost $350,000. It has since been renovated at a cost of $400,000 and has less graphic images than before. Nearby Baltimore City Community College donated the land for the memorial. The memorial is a hang out spot for homeless and I saw used needles just laying on the ground. The memorial has a lot going on that you may not notice. It is a wide open memorial. The first thing that you will notice is the powerful quote by Primo Levi, a Holocaust survivor, on the wall that reads On both sides of the track, rows of red and white lights appeared as far as the eye could see. With the rhythm of the wheels, with every human sound now silenced, we awaited what was to happen. In an instant, our women, our parents, our children disappeared. We saw them for a short while as an obscure mass at the other end of the platform. Then we saw nothing more." You will also notice a large sculpture along the street. It is a very detailed piece by Joseph Shepherd who created the piece in 1988. It is an eye catching piece that depicts victims' bodies contorted in a rising flame. The sculpture's base is inscribed with a world famous quote from George Santayana, "Those who do not remember the past are destined to repeat it." The memorial itself is intend to represent a rail yard that the victims were brought to the concentration camps on. I can really see it too. There are a bunch of train rails that run through the yard and one end of the wall actually looks like a train. They have a triangle shaped plaque behind the sculpture between it and the wall which gives some background of the holocaust. The triangle is symbolic because that is how prisoner were labeled in the concentration camps. On a side note, the words on the plaque has somewhat of a Star Was effect. I really liked the formatting. The memorial is well maintained but because it is wide open and spacious, it is not given the respect it deserves. There were people riding scooters all through it while I was there and there were homes people shooting up along the wall. This memorial is different worth a visit. We should never forget the atrocities committed during the holocaust and this is a nice remembrance of the victims and a marker to keep the memory of what happened going.

This is a great work of art for a very unfortunate depressing event. It has a strong powerful message behind it and the unfortunate scary true events that happened back during World War II. This is the Baltimore Holocaust Memorial and it is located by the harbor

Walking back to our car we came across this memorial. Places like this are important so we never forget. We walked with our grandkids who are way too young to know or understand but it provided an opportunity to explain to a nine year old in an appropriate way for him to understand.

Stumbled upon this park as I was walking from the busyness of the inner harbor back into the city. It's a nice monument and I would recommend stopping by if you're in walking distance. I think it's easy to ignore with the fast moving traffic and you'd likely miss it if you're driving in a car. They have the representation of the rail roads from the holocaust as you get deeper into the park and I think they've done a great job adding little attention to details with the space that it's in.

A small but powerful memorial in the middle of Baltimore. It is worth a trip here, and once you are standing in front of the statue with the victims in the flame.....you will be moved. The railroad tracks, the informative plaques.......I was in tears. Never again......(pay attention America)

Evoking imagery of the rail cars transporting prisoners to concentration camps, Baltimore's Holocaust Memorial is a small space in the middle of a busy city. Don't miss it. The sculpture of the flame is particularly powerful. Remember that six millions Jews were killed and many million others. And the inscription along the bottom, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Never again.

** 5 Year Review Update **…read more Fells Point continues to be great for the most part. Quality restaurants and boutiques, gorge water views, some of the coolest folks you'd ever meet. Some establishments have left, some have joined. The crowds stay heavy. Sadly lately, the crime has increased making it sometimes difficult to enjoy. Parking is gawd awful, but worth the hustle. I pray this area improves as Baltimore City deserves this.

Fell's Point is located along the north shore of the Baltimore Harbor and just less than 10 miles from our hotel... we made our way here on MLK Day. Surprisingly, not all the businesses were closed on a holiday. We arrived around 10:30a and found parking. There are a few options for parking including metered parking and convenient lots and garages. We found an open spot on Thames Street. Fell's Point is beautiful as it was once a bustling shipbuilding port. We walked the snowy sidewalks and enjoyed the views of the wharf. Fell's Point is a historic waterfront and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Baltimore. It has served as the home to jazz singer Billie Holiday and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. I loved the cobblestone streets with many waterfront restaurants and bars and the local cute boutiques shops. We had brunch at Barcocina and did some window shopping at the cozy shops. We also shared a pastry purchased from Pitango Bakery Cafe located right there at the waterfront. Review #3664

The live music and dancing was so fun, there were even hula hoops all around! We tried fresh pizza slices, salads and the best calamari I've ever had with a lemonade and Italian iced tea to wash it all down. As someone who is not Italian, it was super cool to stop in and enjoy pieces of Italian culture and support an awesome Baltimore community! We will definitely be back next year!

It has free parking, free entertainment, visit to a National Historic landmark (1881 ornate Italian style church), a lot of great vendors and amazing foods. The "gladiators" pass you by on your way to watch a game of bocce ball. People are friendly as this is a block party festival that gives you a feeling that you are one big family. Very easy to start conversation and harder to end it. I learned today that the meat is not what makes calzone but the dough that hosts the meat inside. The meet was good but the dough was memorable. Speaking about the dough - how about delicious sweet fried dough for $3 that is impossible to finish by one person - even if you are a true Italian. I was advised by two elderly Italian ladies, "take real sugar because the powder sugar is too messy, and have sugar on both sides." I am sorry that I did not try meatballs but I can testify that calzone and pizza were the first class and worth the trip. I am very tempted to repeat the experience on a similar event - August 19 and 20, 2017 - this time just a saint will be different (St Gabriel in August).
