I don't normally visit expensive looking places, but my friend was buying so why not? I really enjoyed the Wine and cheeseboard. The sitting on the square allowed us to be right in the middle of a busy town market. You don't need to know German to enjoy this spot, but it helps to feel more comfortable. The staff was nice and in typically German fashion, hands off. You are there to enjoy the wine, food, and views. When I walk through the old town of Frankfurt it is hard not to wonder what it would be like to sip classy wines and eat fancy cheeses. Now I know. I would recommend this to friends, as it was not that expensive. Germans are great about selling a lifestyle that feels expensive, for cheap. It's not McCafe...so don't go in thinking its pennies, but for 20 Euro you can have an experience to tell your friends and family.
A Tip: If you don't speak German, don't avoid places like this. Germans speak English very well, and in food service it is more or less required. Learn a few phrases and try them out. Don't, however, drop your giant hiking backpack next to your table. It's a small space so respect the other patrons. Park your stuff at the Train station in a locker for 0,50 Euro and enjoy your day in Frankfurt free of luggage.
Another Tip: Enjoy the Handkäs, a cheese, with your wine. It's local and delicious. A rule of thumb for European cheeses is that if it smells terrible, it tastes amazing. read more
