I first had Mr. Balk represent me many years ago. Although we won in court I wasn't 100% pleased with his representation. I recently contacted Mr. Balk again 12 years later to write a simple letter for me and after waiting a whole month to get into his office for an appt, he agreed to write the letter and that is the last I have heard from his office. It has been two weeks and no letter. I have called his office twice and have asked for my money back but no one has returned my call or my money. I guess I will just have to file a formal complaint with the State Bar. read more

Do not hire this Attorney if you are expecting him to have a high standard of Ethics. This Attorney had the Social Media Contact a Bias Judge posted to parties publicly. He Refused to Demand Recusal. In Court he did not ask one single question about the " Other Part of why we were in Court." Protecting the other party. Told me to take out CC to pay, and he would file Bankrupt later. Convinced me to let him withdraw my Pro Se Motion to Reconsider, by stating the Judge wanted to put me in Jail, and was " Mad" at me. Then telling me the Judge that had originally signed the Order, the one my mother had once dated had " Retired" and never addressing all the multiple counts of Fraud in the case or the court. Nice guy but we agreed on some things that weren't followed through on in court. I spoke about topics that I wanted to be brought up that weren't so I had to ask to speak to get important info out there. We agreed on a price and I was billed for more. I guess he was to busy trying to avoid the mistakes he made to own up to his failures. I had a long drawn out experience with Steve Balk. Incredibly bad communication skills, months to respond to an email. Originally a Mortgage Lawyer, this man was put in charge of a Medical Negligence case, of which the defendant admitted guilt at the time of the accident. 6 years later we lost the case. I had another Law firm review the case files. They said two things: 1). Mr Balk indeed mishandled your case 2) He botched it up so badly, we can't tell if the hosptial did anything...right or wrong.
