I love cooking more Eastern style food at home. Some of these ingredients are not found in the traditional NH grocery stores. I went there a second time last week, and I will be coming back whenever I need supplies in Manchester. Some of the things I get here, are the black chickpeas(channa), besan(chickpea flour) for pakoras (gluten free too), large size bags of restaurant quality garam masala, paneer(India cheese), Kashmiri chili powder, and many, many more things. Indian food is not the easiest cuisine to learn, but is super delicious, and has many healthy ingredients. Don't get me wrong I love chicken tikka masala, and lamb saag etc, but I often make curried chickpeas (channa masala) and they are great leftover cold on salad, or in a wrap with some rice, and yogurt/sour cream etc. They also have some frozen delights for those wanting something for a quick meal. They also have some produce, and hard to find items. It is also right across the street from Market Basket, and that one has a good selection, of hispanic, and Mediterranean ingredients, plus everything else you would expect.

Italian imports store meets corner deli, DeStefano's Market is the kind of place I hadn't realized…read moreI was missing from my neighborhood until I visited. Incredibly friendly staff that sounded like they've been running the family business for decades, a bright and comfortable space, and an arcade machine! I highly recommend stopping by for a bite or to grab a snack to take home. My friends and I tried a significant sampling and will definitely be back. Meatball calzone - made fresh in the morning on their homemade bread, this isn't the thick crusty calzone you're thinking of. It's more like a long stick bread, packed with meatballs, sauce and cheese on the inside. They cut one into three for us, and served with a separate cup of marinara dipping sauce each! Lobster Tail pastry and cannoli: fantastic pastries. I've had many of each of these, and DeStefano's had some of the best. The lobster tail was light and incredibly flaky, the cannoli had some crunch without being hard or overly sweet. The chocolate chip cookie also had chunks of butterscotch (?) and was perfectly cooked--I know saying perfectly cooked sounds crazy, but I don't think I've ever had another cookie that nailed the crispy/soft line so well. Can't wait to head back to Portsmouth so I can visit again!

The pizza was warmed up nicely, and Carlson enjoyed his slice. We also ordered an Italian cold cut sandwich, which was fresh, well layered, and very filling. This place is more than just a quick bite, it's a full Italian market and deli. They have a great selection of authentic Italian groceries, cheeses, deli meats, premade sandwiches, and drinks. The prepared food section really stood out: homemade potato salad, chickpea salad, three-bean salad, freshly made mozzarella, stuffed peppers, lasagna, eggplant parmesan, huge meatballs, and more, everything looked delicious and freshly made. There's seating available with a counter and tables, and they also have a bathroom, which is always appreciated when you're out with kids. The atmosphere feels welcoming and family-friendly, and it's easy to pop in for pizza or leave with a full meal plan. One small thing to note is that I didn't notice a handicap-accessible door at the front entrance, though it may be available elsewhere. Overall, a great local market with quality food, lots of variety, and that classic Italian deli feel. Definitely a spot we'd come back to for lunch, take-out, or grabbing specialty items.
