Vincci Selección Aleysa - Piscina Exterior terraza

Between the BEAUTIFUL building, the RIDICULOUSLY luxurious rooms (seriously, look at the pictures…read moreon their website), and the to-die-for breakfast spread to enjoy daily as you gazed out over the mediterranean, this place is top-notch. During the week before and after our visit, we stayed in other 5 star hotels and resorts on the mediterranean, the dead sea, the red sea, and none of them hold a CANDLE to the luxury offered by Vincci Selección Aleysa (and Vincci is much cheaper, to boot!). The spa here was included free with our room rate (as was breakfast), and we partook every day for hours! If you don't decide on a room with two stories and a private balcony like we did, there's still excellent sunbathing to be had in the garden and by the pool and outdoor jacuzzi (both works of art, architecturally, by the way!). The small size of this hotel means they have time to cater to your every request immediately, and the grounds and rooms are kept immaculate. If you find yourself travelling to costa del sol, stay here. Stay here at least one night, and you'll cancel your other hotel and stay here the whole time, I guarantee it.

Just back from a four night stay here. I'd love to say that our experience was as 5-star worthy as…read moreothers suggest, but it wasn't. We were generally greeted with smiles all around, but the service we received didn't always match the manner in which it was given. For instance, much of the front desk staff seemed to have relatively limited knowledge of local restaurants, gyms, beauty salons, etc. We requested recommendations from each of these categories, among others, and were either met with quick but limited response(s) or internet-based searches/responses (the latter of which we could--and did--do ourselves prior to asking). Also, what "5-star" property doesn't provide q-tips/cotton swabs to dry/clean your ears?? I can't cite this Spanish hotel as the only one that didn't provide this otherwise common toiletry, but it was still a glaring oversight for these U.S.-based guests (if not others). Fortunately, the hotel purchased and provided some, but they were certainly not of a quality that matched that of the other provided toiletries. Another shortcoming relates to there not being a child-free (or meaningfully smoke-free) common area of the hotel. I get that this property caters to individuals, couples, and families of all kinds and tastes, but I also know that we paid a great deal to come here and relax away from the hustle and bustle (and smoke) of the relatively crowded boardwalk and beach that fronts this property. Although we had moments of that restful and relaxed atmosphere, we also had many that involved the running, screeching, screaming, splashing, etc. of children--all of which were most unwelcome by us and others (based on the reactions we both heard and saw) in the lawn area--as well as wafts of smoke here, there, and generally everywhere in the hotel's common areas (to include our private balcony and room when we had the sliding doors open). A glaring inconsistency related to the seemingly complete changeover of staff for the weekend. We arrived on a Tuesday and checked out on a Saturday and we interacted with many of the same individuals throughout the week (and were looking forward to seeing at least some of their faces and smiles upon our departure). What we saw were completely different faces--at the front desk and elsewhere--and no smiles at the front desk specifically. I'm not sure if some other issue was swirling when we checked out, but we didn't receive any friendliness, graciousness, or kindness from the three individuals who were at the front desk on our departure day. To make matters worse, we were handed "police documents" and were told we had to sign them--without any meaningful explanation of why we were being presented with and needed to sign such documents--and we were left feeling unsettled and unwelcomed (if not somehow criminal) upon our departure. It bears noting that we never were presented with or had to sign such documents in the three other properties we visited during our trip. Pros: Very nice property (2 pools, a restaurant, a water "experience" spa, etc.) Beautiful views (of the boardwalk, beach, ocean, etc.) Reservable sunbeds (at very least on the lower lawn) Large, roomy suites and bathrooms (we stayed in a corner junior suite) Outdoor space for many rooms (we had a nice sized balcony with two lounge chairs on it) Some very fluent English speakers (among other languages) Enjoyable breakfast buffet (with quite a few options, albeit only one juice option: orange) Cons: Mold stains in the shower (this should be recaulked or replaced with a material that doesn't mold) Separated/broken shower molding and frame (was fixed day two, but was unsightly prior to that) Not a non-smoking property (seemingly par for the country, but not enjoyable given the pricing) Minimal privacy between balconies (the partition could be higher and there is no noise barrier) Children running/screaming/jumping by and in the "green lawn" pool (there should be a child-free zone and the lawn area seems like an obvious choice) Lacking service in the "green lawn" pool area (we saw a staff member at most 2-3 times during several hours of lounging on any given day) Tiny and very limited exercise room (this "gym" is an utter joke: three cardio machines and one lackluster, if multi-use, strength training machine in a TINY room) Front desk hard to reach at night (we needed to call several times to receive response after 11 or so) Inconsistent service BOTTOM LINE: The hotel has many plusses, but equally (if not more) minuses. For the price we paid we expected a better all around experience and stay. Based on the same, we likely won't stay here again (and we'll think twice before considering any other Vincci Seleccion property).

Overall, we were disappointed with our recent stay at the Higuerón Resort. We spent four nights…read morehere and that was two nights too many. They advertise a rooftop pool but it costs a lot of money per person to use (over 100 euros). They advertise a private beach club but it also costs 100 euros per person to use. The pool that we could see at ground level from our balcony was empty and being refurbished - so unusable. There was one usable pool for guests included in the price of the room but it was very cold. There are many paddle ball courts which we saw being used every day from our balcony but they, too, cost a lot of money to use. Plus, the remote nature of the resort meant that, unless you take the commuter train to somewhere else, you are stuck away from other possible interesting things to do. The best parts were the staff (everyone was kind and helpful) and the fitness center. But we will not stay here again.

The sunny warmth was a nice…read morebreak from the cool, cloudy and mountainous areas we had been touring through Gate 1 Travel. As Kay K pointed out, the beach is right there! It was November and coolish, 60 degrees, so not ideal swim weather. The flavored water in the lobby and hanging art work really make the place look great. We arrived near the evening, with dinner at the hotel included. We went to our room to change clothes and stretch out and found..a bottle of sparkling wine, on ice, with 2 glasses! It was my birthday, and they sent a really nice note to thank us for sharing my birthday with them! I don't know if Gate1 requested this or not, but it was such a nice gesture! We headed to dinner on the first floor (there are actually 2 buildings here, but some renovation was going on) where the breakfast buffet takes place. Dinner was buffet style, with beverage service. There were carving stations, fruit, dessert, so much good food! I never came back for dinner, just for breakfast, which was so expansive and well done. It was nice to sit near a window with a view of the water/pool. The bathroom was fine, a bidet and shower that was not too hard to operate. Again, minimal towels. But also a balcony with chairs and a small table. I did not ask if all rooms have a balcony, but I doubt they all have ocean (?) views. We found the staff approachable and friendly. The bar on the first floor had live nightly entertainment. We missed the first Elvis night, but caught some of the Saturday act. It was ok, just rehashing tunes for the middle age set of tourists, like on a cruise. I took a day off from touring to walk around, shop, and relax on the sundeck in a chair to read with a sangria! It was prob the highlight of my stay. The reason for the 3.5 starts is we saw a dead bug on the stairwell, and a live one in our bathroom! It was probably a waterbug. By the time I ran to grab a shoe, it was gone. To their credit, we called downstairs and a staff member with spray came in. Not sure if they needed to exterminate more, or if this was a fluke. It was our last night anyway. They were good enough to open the buffet breakfast extra early with Continental foods because we had to check out by 6:30am!

The buffet breakfast and dinners were amazing gormet cuisine. We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Ironically, the AC was not running during our stay (March 21-24,2024). The review before mine explained why! So we are here during what's considered "winter" here. Well, we ended up opening the balcony sliding door part of the way to get air in the stuffy room. Even during the night, so we could sleep. Still, I'd say this was a very decent hotel stay. We didn't have time to swim, or lounge much. The pool looks fantastic. The beach is across the street.
