Friday is insane! Just be forewarned! Have you tried their pizza? Their meatballs? Their garlic knots??? I think I have a new favorites pizza place and it's no where close to where I live. But that's ok- I am plotting on getting my boys there over the holidays, since the Navy kid will be visiting and EVERYONE loves pizza. I was recommended to try the triple threat- a pizza with garlic knots crust and part calzone too. Sound amazing! I LOVED their meatballs- we got the appetizer and not only were they drowning in mozzarella- but huge, tasty and in a wonderful sauce. The pizza hit the mark too- obviously since it dethrowned another Jax Pizza place! Plus the family who runs the place is friendly and more than happy to help! read more

What a little hidden gem! So happy I stopped in to try Bala's! I haven't had NY style pizza this good outside of New York! Their prices are super affordable and they have a lot of great offerings for pizza by the slice. I opted for the supreme which was delicious. One slice is huge and enough to fill me up. I also ordered the garlic knots which I dream about, they were warm and the perfect combination of crunch on the outside but light and doughy on the inside. They were SO good!!! I don't know where these comments are coming from. This basically tastes like a frozen pizza. We had a plain cheese and a pepperoni pizza. Most of the places I have tried in Jacksonville have been terrible. At this point I don't believe these reviews are even real. Service was friendly very polite, the place was busy but the pizza is extremely unimpressive. I have only found decent food in Amelia island. Salt Marchè Burette, Bobs steakhouse, chophouse 13 almost makes the list. I do like the breakfast at the Sawgrass Marriott. We go almost every Sunday. Good quality food has been an uphill battle to find in the area. Please make recommendations especially for good pizza. read more

Authentic New York style pizza. The place is clean and there are several chairs and table to dine in. We ordered pizza by the slices. We got an all meat slice and a margarita slice. The crust were perfect and thin. The toppings are good and they reheat them in the oven once you complete your order. The garlic knots were very 'garlicky' which is what we prefer and the marinara sauce that came with it was a good combination for it. Good price too. Will definitely come back. read more

Popped in for a quick lunch a few days ago. I remember reading about it on one of the lists of best pizza spots in town so I finally was in the area so decided to check them out. I was greeted by the most friendly and helpful staff. Decided on a calzone with sausage and pepperoni. Massive doesn't begin to describe what came out. It was HUGE. And so full of flavor. Ate in and ordered two slices and Caesar salad. First time here and would stop in again if in area. Liked the ability to order by slice. The meat pizza was very good and actually ate the crust. Very clean and simple design just like pizza joints up north. The garlic knots were sensational. They filled up the air in the vehicle with the sent of fresh garlic. The pizza slices were large. The main reason we wanted to try this Bala's was for their Triple Threat pizza. And wow! It was fantastic. It really was all the best items in one box. We ordered ours well done with deluxe on the pizza side and meatball and cheese calzone, plus of course the garlic knots. Beware though that this pizza is very huge. Even with our big group enjoying it, we still had leftovers. We'll come back again soon and probably still get the triple threat, but try other varieties of their gourmet pies. read more

I had seen the picture of the Triple Threat online, so one night when I had failed at dinner, we ordered it from Balas. It was easy to order online, and I was able to put special instructions for what I wanted in the calzone and on the pizza. We waited about 30 minutes before heading out the door to pick it up, and it was not far from out house. When I arrived, I was greeted immediately and my order checked on. I had to wait a little bit for the order to finish, but once it was done, it was hot and fresh, ready to head out the door. My fiance wanted to eat a garlic knot immediately, but regretted it because it was piping hot! It had time to cool down on the way home but it was still hot when we ate it. The calzone had creamy ricotta and mozzarella cheeses, the pizza had plenty of pepperoni, and the garlic knots were full of flavor. It's a solid pizza shop. Pizza is good and staff is fantastic! They were very helpful and welcoming into the business. My only (not a big deal) criticism is they need to add more to the menu and maybe deliver. Offer a DoorDash Or Uber eats if they can't deliver. Okay, I notice that this joint opened up recently off of Racetrack Road in the shopping center where Baby Bella's pizza used to be. Saw a picture of one of their offerings-they call it the Triple Threat: Pizza, Calzone & Garlic Knots all in one! Had to try it. So, grabbed my wife and we met some friends there to check it out. As you walk in, the pizza ovens and prep area are to the right. A long counter heads down the right side where they have clear containers for their pizza by the slice. As you walk past the counter, there are 3 four top tables on the left. So max seating looks to be 12 people. We grabbed the last table and perused the menu. Menu consists of appetizers-garlic bread & knots, chicken wings & meatballs ; 5 Salads; Calzones, Stromboli's and 3 sub sandwiches. The main attraction is the pizza-26, yes 26 different custom pizzas! Time will not allow to review all of the offerings but there are some unique pies here. We came for the Triple threat though! I like the pie, my bride likes the calzone. Always pepperoni & sausage for me, pepperoni & mushroom for the calzone. You pay at the counter- 2 sodas & triple threat with tip was about $35. Took about 15 minutes and this huge triple threat showed up at the table. 18 inches of pizza, calzone & garlic knot perfection! My bride loved her calzone ( at about a 3rd with 2 knots and was full). I had 2 knots and a little less than half of the pizza. The pizza was great as were the knots. And we had dinner for the next night and my wife will have an addition meal! The guys walked out the door and the wives lingered to speak with the owners. They came out with 2 complementary slices of cheesecake since it was our first visit. Pretty good neighborhood pizza joint. I appreciate that there is a decent New York style pizza place in the area where you can get a tasty slice. Until now our only option in the area was Brooklyn Pizza on the other side of Bartram Park. Unlike Brooklyn, this place has a better crust with a nice chew unlike the drier and crispy crust. Bala's sauce is much less acidic tomato sauce in my opinion too, which is great. Friendly staff, clean place and a comfortable atmosphere. It'll be nice to get a slice at lunch or dinner from time to time. The music playing was lame, I'd have liked something other than pop. Listening to Justin Timberlake and Imagine Dragons while I eat isn't my thing. read more

We ordered a cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. They both were delicious! The sauce was not too sweet and the right amount to balance with the crust and cheese. Being new to St Augustine, trying to find a NY Pizza is challenging to say the least! Then i read yelp reviews on Bala's. The owners are from Queens or Long Island. They have a large pizza selection. We ordered for take out 3 pies: margarita pie, meatball parm pie, and a "garbage pie". Thats NY talk for all meats and veggies! The pies were 18 inches, crust was perfect, not too thick, not too thin. Sauce was flavorful and they did t skip on the mozzarella! It was hot outta the box and everyone enjoyed it! Best pizza in the area, hands down! I'm a pizza snob, and sooooo many people recommend other pizza joints like they're good and you ought to try them..... this is the standard, and everyone else lacks, period. Hillary's in St. A is the only other standard (Chicago style there vs New York style here). I wont waste my money being disappointed by any other place. It just tastes better. My only wish is that Bala's could go full scale, more seating, serve beer, etc. I know they would have to move, but i'll hope someday they can. read more

Literally *cannot* say enough good things about this place - definitely the best pizza joint I've been to in Jax, hands down!!!!! The quality is incredibly high - super fresh ingredients and awesome flavor combos. The pizza crust is super thin and crisp in the best way - very similar to NY style pizza. Bala's has pretty much every topping you'd ever want on a pizza, and they also have options like calzones, salads, subs, etc. If you like alfredo and marinara sauce, try out there rosa sauce - great for dipping crust! The customer service is fantastic as well - everyone I've interacted with has been super nice and helpful. read more
