It's always nice to support a family owned business. I walked in prepared to choose my standard favorite a slice of pepperoni pizza. This visit I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try the meat pizza. The crust took me back to my days of visiting NYC for a "slice." The brother and sister who waited on me took the time to deal with my indecisiveness going back and forth on what I wanted. Finally once I made my decision I smelled the toppings and wanted to eat the slice right there. My wife strongly encouraged me to wait until I got home so I didn't embarrass her with my savage ways. We had heard a new pizza place opened in the area and knew we had to try it. After hearing about the the Triple Threat we need we had to speed that up. What is the Triple Threat you might ask? Well it's the smartest thing to ever happen to pizza. The Triple Threat is calzone, pizza, and garlic knots all in one. Half is your favorite pizza with garlic knots down the middle and the other half being a calzone. I will say I thought this might be just a gimmick at first but after ordering one I was blown away. The pizza was fantastic, the calzone was the best I have ever happen and what more can I say about garlic knots. Even the sauce for dipping blew me away. This is for sure the best pizza in the area. First, I must say the customer service is amazing! The place was packed, many people waiting on food orders and a small line to order. I was greeted with a smile. She helped me through ordering as it was my first time. I waited for my food over 30 minutes - probably the only downfall (it was Friday at 6:15pm when I showed up). If I knew I would have to wait on slices of pizza, I probably would have just ordered a whole pie. But my husband and I got a bit of everything, and we were not disappointed. The food was great! Bala's came as a recommendation from a friend who is from NJ and a really pizza snob. We had to patiently wait because they are closed on Sunday and Monday. Toppings were generous and the crust didn't even get soggy. Truly a NY pizza made in St. John's . I ate it cold the next day. Still great! My husband never eats the crust on pizza. You better believe he ate this one. No crumb left behind. And then, the meatballs. Fantastic! You do get what you pay for- serving portion was generous. The meatballs were not dry or dense. The marinara on it tasted like someone's Nonna had stirred the pot for hours. I took the leftovers to work the next day, still delicious. Oh, and dessert. Italian rainbow cake. Yes, rainbow cake. Then my husband told me about their "Triple Threat" which is a pizza that is folded on one side to create a calzone, the other size pizza and garlic knots lined in the middle. We got a pepperoni pizza and a pepperoni and green pepper calzone. The ricotta and mozzarella cheese are unlike any I have ever had!! So soft and delicious! So two Friday's in a row I have called to place a pick up order after 6:00pm, and I understand Friday's are generally the busiest for Pizza joints, but they answered the phone and hung up on me, and then never answered the phone when I called back multiple attempts. I triple checked the phone number thinking this had to be a mistake, the phone number was correct. If you're going to be in business you should have a system in place to handle the phones on busy nights, technology has come a long way in the last decade. If you feel that you made your money for the night and it's just not worth taking any more orders, that's your prerogative, and this review is mine. Fortunately, we found better NY Pizza down the street and they actually answer their phone even when they're swamped on a Friday night, your loss. read more

After my last review I had to go back, I am just such a great writer I got a craving! We had a group of people over so we ended up getting two pizzas, the Triple Threat and the Spicy Grandma. Both pizzas were amazing, I was so glad we tried something new! Ordering takeout is so easy we just called it in and picked it up 30 minutes later, it was actually ready one time which was shocking for a busy place. The pizza also had steam coming out of the box still and when I got it home it was the perfect temperature. The Spicy Grandma was unlike any pizza I have had, the hot honey was the perfect addition to the Sicilian style pizza. I will ABSOLUTELY be ordering this again! The Triple Threat was just as good as I remembered. We did have leftovers which heated up really well, it took a few minutes in a toaster oven and the pizza was good as new! The menu is awesome so decided to try this spot. Don't bother getting the grandmas pizza. They have a ton of them on stand by where they just add toppings as I saw when I came to pick up the pizza. It was tough to bite into so that's when I knew it was old. The flavor was good so I assume it was the sauce and seasonings they use but there was WAY TOO MICH sauce.
