I have learned that this location has a reputation for calling the police to 'Emergency Petition'…read morepatients of all ages. This is when a provider at this location sees that a patient is showing signs of anxiety, nervousness, or similar emotions. If the patient is showing these symptoms, some staff members, like Ellen Cook and Sujata Malla will leave the room during the appointment and call the police to come and forcibly take a patient to the hospital psych unit. The patient is not aware that the police have been called due to the fact the call was made from another room. About 15 minutes later, the police ambush the patient in the room and quickly handcuff their hands behind their back. Ms. Cook did this to me and after we heard the handcuffs lock my wrists behind me, she violated my 4th Amendment rights and searched through all of my belongings and took my house and car keys out of my coat pocket, and I was horrified that the police didn't stop her from searching and seizing my possessions. Ms. Cook violated me so badly that I cannot escape reliving the event every day. The police then put me in the police car where I somehow sat on the handcuffs which crushed my wrists. I screamed from the pain and the police had difficulty getting my wrists out from under me. At the hospital, me and anyone else that is forcibly taken to the hospital by police are then subjected to a strip search and given paper towel type of clothing to wear instead of their own. The emergency department released me a few hours later stating that I didn't need to be admitted. Then I had to go back to Chesapeake Mental Health to try to find my keys. I told the manager there that Ms. Cook took my house and car keys from me. She said that Ellen is not allowed to take client's possessions from them and said she would investigate the event. The experience was terrifying and I couldn't believe that anything like this was possible. The Chesapeake Mental Health on Riverside Drive do not take client's possessions from them. If a provider ever leaves the room during your appointment, LEAVE the building and take yourself to the hospital. If you go home, the police will hunt you down at your home. A week earlier, I met a provider named Sloan. I don't know if that is the young ladie's first or last name, but she is everything wonderful that a patient could hope for in a mental health provider.
