I shopped for insurance about five years ago, leaving a company that I had been with for over a decade. My decision to select Shawn Nistler, and the Insurance Brokers of MN Team, was influenced by the savings they identified, but mostly based on the consultative approach they took to identifying and understanding my families insurance needs and exposure. We came up with a comprehensive package that made me comfortable, knowing I was having a new driver in our household and soon attending college out of state. So all is great... It's just insurance right? Fast forward to January 2021 when our child was hit from behind totaling his vehicle, with the impact pushing him into the stopped vehicle in front of him. Sending him to the hospital for ER trauma treatment. Here are the results of this No Fault Accident with injuries to my household... ZERO! After coming home from the accident scene, and hospital, I sent an email to Shawn on the evening of the accident it was late... I immediately received a personal call from Shawn while he was out of the office, on a weekend vacationing with his family. Shawn's consultative approach to our coverage and the AutoOwners policy completely protected my household from any costs, claims or personal damages. It needs to be said that the driver who rear ended our Son and totaled his vehicle has Geico Ins coverage, something they most likely bought online... after all 15 minutes could save you 15% right??? Well, in this case the Geico coverage was not enough to cover the damages to their own totaled vehicle much less the other 2 vehicles damaged, nor was it comprehensive enough to cover the medical costs. In less than 10 days after the accident AutoOwners has already completed and processed our claims, provided payment for our totaled vehicle and we have not seen a medical bill! Geico... well they sent us a notice confirming our claim exceeded the owners coverage and stating we would have to use our company AutoOwner for our claim and indicating AutoOwners would then have to pursue their insured for reimbursement! Basically washing their hands of it and hanging out their customer to dry! 15 minutes has cost this person much more than I'm sure they figured they saved! My advise... "It can happen to you" work with a professional! Shawn and his Team understand insurance and have saved and shielded my family from loss while providing personal service second to none.

Unfortunately, I've just had a conflict with an insurance company which--again--proves how crooked…read moreand unethical this industry really is in the United States. I received a letter a few weeks ago informing me that, after 10 years, American Family Insurance is cancelling my home owner's insurance because of our family dog, a 150 pound female Mastiff. Apparently, American Family Insurance considers a Mastiff a dangerous "exotic animal". We were part of a "random" review of insured homes in our area, initiated by the corporate headquarters. We weren't home but I found this guy's card in our door and I saw him peaking in our windows on our security cameras. Keep in mind, our dog is a very expensive registered pure breed, she's licensed in the city of Minneapolis, she's licensed in the city of Ramsey, and she's been professionally trained. In addition, she's 9 years old, she has two titanium knees, and she has cancer. To top it all off, we have a 6 foot fence around our entire property. Our girl is a totally legal licensed animal, quiet, friendly, contained on our property, and not a threat to anyone. Our local agent did us a "favor" and got the termination stopped as long as we added a rider (for more money) covering an "exotic animal". Gee--thanks for the favor! These guys at American Family are A-Holes. There were at least two times in the past 10 years that I could have made five figure claims. But I didn't want the headaches and to be cancelled or have my rates increased. I receive nothing for my loyalty but a kick in the nuts. These guys SUCK, SUCK, SUCK! I'd cancel them tomorrow but I suspect that the other companies are just as bad. This is the second time this week I've been blindsided by a large corporation. I need to go to a nice restaurant somewhere and have a relaxing, positive experience with a company! -Daddy Maxx Retro
