He has been telling me about his favorite German poppy seed cake that he used to get for every birthday every year, and I've desperately been trying to find it for YEARS. No one here has even ever heard of it. I called Mits Creamy Creations to see if perhaps they could help me out. Just like everyone else in the US I've ever spoken to, she had never heard of it. However, for the first time, she offered to find a recipe and told me she was willing to give it a shot! I was THRILLED! First time ever finding someone who would even attempt this cake. She had the cake done early and I picked it up curbside. It was BEAUTIFUL! But the real test was the next day when I brought my husband the cake. He. Was. FLOORED! In tears. Me and my youngest Yelper approached the counter with some excitement to try these mini cupcakes. They are definitely presented well and the associates did a good job of greeting and taking our order. We had the salted caramel, birthday cake, red velvet, chocolate (best of the bunch), and coconut. The cupcakes were dry and just okay, the frosting on these cupcakes was equally dry and lacking in flavor. These cupcakes just were not that good, and for the price i paid, really bad. Had they not been minis, I would even say we may not have finished them, which is saying a lot if you know my fondness for sweets. I can honestly say I have had better supermarket cupcakes. I know a lot of businesses don't like negative reviews, but the truth is I don't really like leaving bad reviews (okay, maybe i do sometimes) but in this case, we were really hoping to get great cupcakes, and these fell way short. Maybe it was the fact we came on a Saturday evening and they were not fresh, but even so, an excuse is not a reason for an extra star, and "it still doesn't get the cream in the cupcake".
