Took an out of town friend to Hampton for lunch and ended up changing plans to try out this new spot. We came for a late lunch so we had the spot mostly to ourselves. I was immediately drawn to the beer and wine options in the cooler, they have plenty of van options I hadn't seen before, one of which I ended up trying and loving enough to buy a 6-pack later! We both ordered sandwiches and found a seat. The guy at the counter was friendly and helped walk us through the side options; the food came fairly quickly even though it was made to order. No complaints on the quality, I had the Sandy Buckroe with turkey and a side of broccoli salad. I'm a tough critic on sandwiches because I love them so much, but this held its own. I prefer a thicker sourdough but the flavor was good. I'd like to visit again to try the brunch, seemed like the menu options were good. Decided to try this place for brunch after church. Tucked away and easy to miss. While the menu is limited they have great options. The custard French toast was Amazing!! I'm glad they put the mixed berries on the side. I preferred it without the berries, but my boyfriend loved the mixed berries. I tasted the crab Benedict my boyfriend had. We popped by for an easy breakfast and were not disappointed! I absolutely loved my BLTA on sourdough, it was very fresh with thoughtful ratios on the ingredients. My only criticism is that the bacon was quite fatty, but that's a personal preference! The bruschetta toast was absolutely delicious, albeit a bit heavy on the vinaigrette even though it looked beautiful. Our server was a delight, the music was enjoyable, and our wait time was low! DANG IT!!!!!! I visited Baked for the first time pre-COVID and although it was a good while ago, I remember having a flat bread (while dining in) that was amazing. It was titled the Jiggy Figgy and consisted of goat cheese, arugula, capicola, and an awesome Fig Jam that just sent the whole thing off the map. At the risk of sounding like a Food Network host wanna be, it legit had the creamy sour from the goat cheese, the peppery arugula with the semi-spicy and fatty capicola, and then the sweetness of the jam. Topped on a crispy flatbread, I had zero complaints. Then comes stupid COVID... So fast forward 2 years, I was on my lunch break today and had to shoot down to downtown Hampton to (of all things) pick up my handicap placard due to some recent medical "stuff" and whilst down that way I wanted to grab food before coming back to work. Now mind you, if my medical "stuff" entails a placard, it would go without explanation that really I have been limited on going out to eat primarily because, uh, I can't hardly walk. Welp, I knew Baked had parking lots pretty proximal to the restaurant and the lots had handicap spots, so I hung the placard from my rear view mirror and took that puppy for a spin (it's a growing process I'm sure, but I felt so dirty parking in the handicap spot even though I was a fully accredited placard owner- well the real one comes in the mail soon but I got the post card looking one that fits the bill). All I could keep thinking was "$500 ticket" and as we all know, there's cops everywhere in downtown Hampton (insert joke here about the donut shop Glazed on the backside of Baked should you choose to laugh at that kind of thing- me, I'll stay neutral). So I went online while sitting in the handicap spot (partially to order and partially because there was a cop across the street and I was still iffy if I wanted to test my luck or not) and while accessing the online ordering platform and then the menu, there was no Jiggy Figgy! Smh. So I took a peek at the pizza's they had in search of (maybe?) a close equivalent and found the "Blueberry Yum Yum" (that should have gave it all away right there and I now feel twice as stupid having even typed some dumb crap like that). The Blueberry Yum Yum (arg- I did it again) is described as a pizza with a white sauce, ricotta, goat cheese, mozz, arugula, and blueberries topped with a balsamic reduction. Ok- got it. Close enough. I also ordered a side salad with a cranberry vinaigrette (add feta) and a sweet tea. The site said 20-45 min which is strange because during lunch I'm pretty sure that if I was dining in, the food would come far quicker than that but all was well because I was still Breaking Bad posting up in my little handicapped spot (which was so much needed- the handicapped spot, not my tapping into my inner rebel). So I did the decent thing, waiting the perfunctory 25 min so as to not stress the staff, and then started the walk. It wasn't a long walk by any stretch, but again with the whole me not being able to hardly walk thing it seemed like much farther. This place is the cutest little spot ever and when I walked in I was immediately greeted by the hostess. I explained that I had placed and online order and was walked back to the bar top while she gathered my order. Well, tried to gather my order. I was asked to return in 15 min because the ticket printer failed at life and they pretty much just got my order. So yea, crap happens and I get it, but here's my thing- I was hungry and thirsty and, yea the pizza needs to cook, but given the fact that there was a mess up, how about you throw a lady some dang tea on ice and maybe the salad. Anywho, I went back outside and waited and then went back in (no parking ticket- woo hoo!) and was provided with my food. So, not to be persnickety, but I have T-Rex arms and am lucky I can even reach the toilet paper in the bathroom. She handed me my order (12" pizza in box and a side salad on top). She asked what type of dressing and sat that on top of the box. Then I asked for a knife and fork- placed on top of the box. As if ordering a "Blueberry Yum Yum" wasn't my most brilliant move of the day, I had to push the envelope and ask for napkins....right before I was handed my sweet tea (geez- can a lady get a bag! I spend a buck on a hot dog at 711 and get a bag, I'd like to thing a $16 12" pizza should come with more perks). So I am now rocking some old, beat up feet, short little noodle arms, and an armful of takeout on a windy day. Probably half of my napkins made a run for it but I managed to not let the salad dressing come in second. I finally made it to the car and was so hungry and thirsty I acted straight ignorant with it, passerby's rubbernecking and all (I thought they were just nosey but my rearview mirror set me straight once I took a peek and saw I had a balsamic reduction smile like some vinegary version of the Joker). But...food was good (minus the stupid blueberries- never again). read more

Welp yelp...I have a new favorite spot to add to my list rotations of restaurants. This place is super random. They offer breakfast and lunch options - but also have a sizable wine and beer collection to buy bottles from. I ordered the crab cake benny with the smash browns and it was really good. I mean really good. I had to stop speaking to my friends while eating. I'm not typically a fan of eggs Benedict, but I'm a HUGE fan of crab cakes, so I guess you can say that I took a "chance" on this (but probably not - not like it's a real stretch or anything). I walked in with the firm belief that I'd be ordering French toast, eggs, and bacon - the standard breakfast fair - but was intrigued by the other options on the menu. The service was actually pretty remarkable. Everyone was extremely friendly and very personable. I actually enjoyed interacting with them...and I hate people...and the coronavirus (let's hope this comment ages well), but I took a chance today. The level of service offered by the staff and management was the exact level of that I personally love...just personable enough that I feel welcome, but not overwhelmingly in your face. The atmosphere was pretty chill also...better than your average restaurant in downtown Hampton, so I have no complaints there. I bought a bottle of wine on my way out the door.....and I drank a glass while writing this review. I hope I spelled everything properly because I'm not going back to proofread. ANYWAY...great spot. I went here with my homegirl after a horrible experience at Pour Girls and they turned our frowns upside down. Our hosted Epiphany was so sweet and was super helpful when it came to recommendations in the menu. Our server Sarah was sooo nice and was willing to let us try different mimosa combinations. We ended up getting several and had a blast. The atmosphere was nice, we sat at a high top and things were decently spaced in the restaurant so it didn't feel like we were sitting on top of one another. I ordered a La carte breakfast items, pancake, French toast , sausage , bacon , eggs and their version of hash browns. I thoroughly enjoyed everything and will definitely come again. read more

I've been a regular customer here since fall 2020. When I first started going the food was amazing. Recently this year I've noticed that the quality of food has started to decline. The grits used to be delicious and one of the main selling points when I recommended the restaurant. Creamy and smooth. Some of the best I've ever had. I had the most lovely breakfast here with my partner on July 4. I chose Baked Bistro because it was the only open restaurant serving breakfast around 1030 am and I was HUNGRY. Eating out is a bit complicated for me right now because I'm eating vegan. But the staff here were so sweet and accommodating. I had the King's Way VOS and asked for the vegan bratwurst (THEY HAVE A VEGAN BRAT YALL) instead of eggs. The whole thing was delicious. Loved the tomato gravy and both the taste and texture of the brat. I also had a side of smashbrowns, which was a sort of mashed potato cake with the skin still on the bottom. My partner had the Jim Boy with bacon and grits. We ordered hot coffee but wished that we'd gotten cold brew instead. When we asked for a cup of ice, intending to DIY it, our server, Amber, brought over two large coffee cubes to cool our drinks without watering them down. How thoughtful! This place deserves at least 9 stars!! Visiting on our boat and heard about Baked Bistro so we thought we'd give it a try. My dish was a Creole sauce with black beans, sliced peppers & corn with 2 poached eggs over top covered with cheddar and a tortilla on the side. It was huge and one of the most memorable unique breakfasts I've ever had! My hubby had something more traditional...eggs, sausage, homemade sourdough toast and incredibly creamy, buttery grits. We're HUGE fans of their sister donut shop Glazed and always talked about visiting this place. The café typically has a decent crowd there and it's an interesting looking place. We happened to be in the area, maybe around 2 pm and it looked like we missed most of the Sunday lunch crowd so we decided to give it a try. Big mistake. It was a nice day outside so we decided to start off with one of our favorite "nice day" drinks...an Orange Crush. We were fairly certain they mistakenly gave us orange juice and not an Orange Crush as it tasted like straight up orange juice. It was tasty orange juice, just didn't taste like an Orange Crush. My wife ordered a cheese sandwich with a tomato slice on it. Honestly the cheese sandwich was lacking character and taste, and the tomato slice was not ripened enough to be served. The menu indicated the bread was sourdough, but it actually looked and tasted more like store bought white bread. Thinking for the extra $1.50 for a tomato slice, you'd receive something reasonably edible. I ordered a chicken and biscuit sandwich with a side of smashbrowns. The smashbrowns are potato pieces that were so undercooked they were crunchy. The first bite of the chicken sandwich was tasty. The second bite was RAW UNCOOKED chicken. We told the waitress about the uncooked chicken sandwich and honestly I was a little shocked with her reaction. She didn't pick up my plate but reached across my plate and picked up the sandwich. She looked at the sandwich and said it was gross. She apologized and said the staff was probably tired from the weekend crowds and offered me another sandwich that I declined. She did mention repeatedly (maybe 4 times?) that she did not charge me for the sandwich. But then we were charged for soup that we never ordered or received. After a bit of effort, we able to get a correct invoice (without the chicken sandwich). So the entire experience was poor and I can imagine why we'd ever return to this café. It would appear that both the kitchen staff and waitressing were not prepared for their roles. So much potential and so poor execution. That said, we'll return to Glazed and the other restaurants in the area. read more

First off, I want to make it clear that I was hoping this would be fantastic, however I was sadly disappointed upon entering the restaurant. Greeted by frowning face by all the staff. The prices were also high for what I would consider diner food. The food was very decent but not worthy of the price associated. This particular day was Saturday July 2nd and we almost left the restaurant after waiting over an hour for our food and noticed another table was also about to give up until a waitress convinced them to stay. Had a very nice experience with my family. The waitress was pleasant and checked up on us often. The chef even came out to ask how things were. It's a low key place with good food (and doughnuts) and I think most people would have a solid experience. They have fun themes every night as well where they do something a little different and a little special each day. Pretty good for the Hampton Roads area. I enjoy getting my lunchtime Caesar salad here. While everything is pricy, it is tasty... I just don't think anyone wants to spend $20 on a salad very often. Right behind Baked Bistro you will find the most delicious and humongous doughnuts!!! They are great warmed up with a hot cup of coffee or chocolate.
