Tonight I had the pleasure of eating some of the best Lebanese food I've ever eaten!…read more We ordered the Vegetarian Banquet (made vegan) to share and I missed getting photos of most of it because we got into it so quickly, so here's the one shot I took of the night. My personal favourites were the hummus and tabouli, balila, spinach triangles (with spinach from Eddie's own garden) and the stuffed vine leaves (which I don't usually enjoy but these were so good)! Our host for the evening Eddie (yes, THE Eddie) was humble, attentive, and had such a passion for homestyle cooking. I highly recommend giving Eddie's Vegan Eatery a visit if you live near the St George area of Sydney. From the starters all the way to the baklava and tea at the end, it was a divine experience.

You'll notice that as soon as you arrive you're warmly greeted by Eddy and his staff who are very attentive. All of the food we've eaten is very fresh, the banquet is good value and the platter for 2 for smaller groups also offers a good variety. The a la carte menu offers all of the usual lebanese cuisine, the serving sizes are generous and I think the prices are fair for what they offer. We've been many times and have also gone in large groups and the food has always been consistent. Make sure you finish the meal with some lebanese coffee and a sweet!

The old owners of this place was terrible had no respect for the customers & the food was nothing…read morespecial... then it was taken over by a true entrepreneur (got to listen to his story.. book bio qaulity)!! Ever since he took over the place & made it his own by changing the name & making top qaulity pizzas/kebabs it's been nothing less but perfection :D!! I love all the food at this place & have neverbeen dissapointed & that goes for anyone I've ever taken to eat here & my family & friends that have came over for a big pizza feed :D!! They have medium sized pizzas for about $6.50 - $12.00 which all taste great & fill you up & the selection is big enough for you to have to visit a few times to try all the different ones they have to offer:)!! My 2 all time favourites that i normally grab on the go is the Zaatar pizza for $2.50 which is very popular for breakfast for alot of my Lebanese friends or even as just a great tasting snack:) & the other one is Zaatar special $5.50 which is a healthy kebab you could say with zaatar spread, fresh mint, tomato, cucumber, olives & shallots :D!! He's also started making kebabs which I've never seen any Lebanese bakery do, they are so great tasting that there is no time for photos haha. Pretty sure it was on his mind before but i think the locals pushed him in the right direction after they kept asking if he did kebabs :)!! This place is by far my favorite pizza/kebab joint in the area, definately got my hooked :D!!!

Anyway, I ordered a wrap and couldn't really understand the menu, it seemed to repeat fries, pickles and chicken in the wrap. Then when it arrived I understood. There is a mammoth amount of chicken, fries and pickles IN the wrap - fries inside the wrap. Fries. Inside. The. Wrap. I think I woke up 3 hours later from a carb coma. Go here. Be amazed by the fries in wrap. With pickles.

We appreciated the portion of chippies but they were drier than the desert of the jacoran and appeared older than the ghosts of benjamin past. The chilli dip didn't pair nicely with the chippies which is always a warning sign. The burgies tasted kinda yum but a little dry and could've used a bit more slop. One of the friendjamin ordered salad with his chicky but it came with chippie instead and the extra bread and garlic dip were deemed useless. It almost made him ascend into the hall of shadows and scream with anger...We even ordered the burger that Tayta himself designed...The Friendjamin 3 had never met a chicken man like Tayta to be so cavalier with his reputation...

It was 9pm on a Thursday night. I'd finished work and was starving. Most restaurants are closed…read morearound this time, so it's hard to get some good take out if you don't have any food in the fridge. I'd just moved to the Belmore area and was living there for a few weeks before I'd discovered the beauty that is El-Manara. Lebanese food is always good, but sometimes, certain restaurants can be hit and miss with the quality and value of their meals. I love just ordering a mixed plate, and to my luck El-Manara was still open when I phoned them, after looking up the local Lebanese restaurants in the area. This one was one of the closest to my house, 6 minutes around the corner to be exact. So when I asked if they had a mixed plate, the man on the end of the phone said he'd "put something together for me". I told him to make it for 2 people to share. I expected the price to be about $30 (because I've also ordered from other Lebanese restaurants in the area, and based on the other business' prices, they charged $15 for a mixed plate for 1, so I just assumed enough for 2 would be double that.) I was surprised when the man on the phone said "Okay, for you, twenty dollars." "Twenty dollars?" I asked, in disbelief. Knowing what Lebanese restaurants are like, they are usually very generous with their food, and for me, ten dollars each for that kind of food is massive value for money. He confirmed the price, and I told him "I'll give you $25 when I get there" he paused and then asked "will you give me $20 or $25?" with a slightly confused tone in his voice. "I'll give you $25 man!" I said excitedly! Knowing that was what I valued my food at, hoping that he'd give me good value for my money. His response to that was: "You give me $25, I give you extra food!" Well, brilliant! Needless to say, ten minutes later, I picked up my food - and to my surprise, walked out of there with 2 huge meat trays filled with so many chicken and lamb skewers and kafta sausages, 6 falafels, vine leaves, a plate of pickled peppers, two garlic dips, two tubs of hummus, two tubs of baba ganoush and two bags of Lebanese bread. It was more food than my sister and I could eat in one sitting, so we devoured the remainder for lunch the next day! I think I got the luck of the draw, perhaps I was the last customer they served before closing that night, so I possibly received all the extra food they had left in the kitchen so they didn't waste it by throwing it out. But for me, being a Lebanese food lover, who is willing to pay for the quality and quantity of my food, but also loves a meal that is excellent value for money - this restaurant ticks all the boxes! Upon pickup I noticed they had a very small in-house seating area for diners who wish to dine-in, however, I highly recommend this joint mainly for takeaway purposes only, as the seating isn't very generous and isn't very intimate as you're smack bang next to the ordering counter for people who walk in off the street to order their takeaway. Haldon Street boasts a fair few Lebanese restaurants, but if you're taking your food home with you - definitely hit this place up for a taste test!
