This has been on my list on dc since I loved! Owned by a sweet asian family, service was great. Although there was a quite a line, they moved very quickly and were efficient with getting orders out quickly to clear out the space. I got the Lox and Cream Cheese Bagel (jalapeño bagel and Chive Cream Cheese) and it was fantastic. I included all the toppings of red onion, tomatoes, and capers as well. Almost didn't feel fully cooked. Seems like they use salt to mask the lack of flavor too. Bethesda Bagels is a slightly better option nearby. Stand by Goldberg's as best bagel spot in DC area though. Highly suggest calling in your order and picking it up from the front of the line but the service was top tier! So glad I stumbled upon this little gem. These bagels give very much NYC style. I got the Lox bagel on pumpernickel bread and it completely satisfied my craving. I saw the strawberry cream cheese and knew I wanted to come back to try it. And of course... it was BOMB!! The thick chunks of strawberries in the cream cheese were just too good. I know there are trendy bagel spots like "Call Your Mother" amongst others, but please give this place a try. Not only was the bagel and lox delicious, but the people are incredible. I went a few weeks ago when I was in DC for a work trip. They are cash only and have an ATM in the store. I didn't have cash or a debit card, and the owner said I could come back to pay for it later. I told her I was only in town for a day, and she said that I could just come back and pay her next time I'm in town. Was really so touched by her trust and generosity. By far the best bagels in DC. It's a small hole in the wall shop. You need cash, but they have an ATM inside that charges a 1.50 fee if needed. I got half a dozen bagels for $10 (no cream cheese) to take home. I ate the chocolate chip one first. Then I ended up eating an everything later on. The consistency is exactly how a bagel should be. I had their sesame bagel with veggie cream cheese and my Husband ordered their turkey avocado bagel sandwich. We loveedddd it. I believe it's cash only. There was some tables in the back to eat at. Placed a large pickup order for a party recently (three dozen bagels including a mix of hot and cold bagel sandwiches, etc.) and they accommodated my early pickup request on the morning of the weekend event -- no small feat when they are always busy! The bagels were a big hit with our guests, including some cynical New Yorkers. Sure, the ambiance is no-frills, but it's a hole-in-the-wall bagel shop; what do you expect? The bagels themselves are the tastiest around, and I've tried Bullfrog, Call Your Mother, Buffalo+Bergen, Bethesda, Pearl's. Competitors might offer higher-quality fillings (the bacon at Pearl's comes to mind) but I care most about bagels, and boy does Bagels, Etc. deliver on that front! My roommates and I loved coming here and would make the walk to dupont circle every other weekend to get bagels. It's a quality bagel and I've gotten bagel sandwiches here with cream cheese and an added egg. You definitely can't go wrong with any of the bagel options. They're fairly fast as they usually have a line out the door. There isn't any seating inside except for one little table really and there's a few outdoor chairs, but I recommend just walking to the circle and sitting on the benches there! I really think this is one of the best places to get a quality bagel in the area (and the price isn't bad). My only issue is the last time I went I found a black hair in my egg which was an unpleasant experience. I have since not gone back because I'm a bit traumatized but I do really like the bagels here and my roommates have brought me bagels that are toasted with just cream cheese and those have been delicious with no issues. I would say just be cautious about the eggs because that's the only part I had an issue with. That said, the bagels I grew up on, chewy, well baked, a light shine to it with an impossible layer of cream cheese are what I set my bar to. I had a toasted onion bagel with chive cream cheese. The bagel was on the small side and covered in delicious onion bits, the chew and flavor were there. I didn't think too much about it when I ordered the chive cream cheese, but they were actual chives and not scallions like most bagel shops. We opted to walk a block to emissary for our hot beverages, so two flavored bagels with cream cheese today ran us just under $7. This is an incomplete review because I chose to not give this place my business. Feeling that my business is wanted is a big deal for me. But, from my interaction I didn't feel like my business was wanted here. My rating give a benefit of the doubt for possible misperceptions. So, I wanted a bagel. When I was about to enter after checking the menu , an older lady went in before me. Little things happened from there. First, the lady stood in front of me deciding what she wanted to order for over 2 minutes, but she did not give me the courtesy of letting me order.. The staff paid attention to her and seemed ready to take her order. The staff did not acknowledge me or say anything. Okay. Second, I get to the counter. Still not knowing if that is the place to submit order, I am about to ask , but the cashier puts her head down and starts scribbling. Again, nobody acknowledges my presence. I asked if this is where I order, she sharply responds , "yeah, what's your order?" I was not feeling that tone. But , I ordered a bagel. Lastly, was about to pay with my card. She tells me " cash only." I said I have no cash, thinking I would get an upcharge. Instead, she pointed me to the store's ATM. Mind you, there is no sign that indicates this cash only policy. At that point, I felt canceled my order. Too many small signs. The bagels looked good and the staff looked like there were working. I get it it. My perception might be the minority. Maybe, the counter staff was tired. But, since is was different than the other customers, the only black male customer, and I was treated different than the other customer, It hit me wrong. Something felt different. And, I don't give money if feel disrespect . The card vs.cash policy was not ear. And I wasn't pointed to a posting. I would have been willing to pay a card penalty, but that wasn't offered. read more
