The S-Bahn is one of the many public transport operations in Berlin, and is basically classed as a…read morehigh-speed railway network. The S-Bahn system has many lines across many stations, and is probably the least accessible in terms of wheelchairs on the network, mainly down to the high step to get on and off the train in most cases, and the fact most of the stations don't seem to have lift or ramp access. The average speed is just short of 40 kmph, which is around 24 miles per hour, which isn't exactly high speed especially when compared to the UK, where we are used to driving 30 miles per hour on normal roads, so this shows this public transportation system is only meant for shorter distance travel such as within Berlin, so could be quite frustrating having to go to a further distanation such as Berlin-Schonefield Airport. The layout of the stations make it more inconvenient than using other public transportation systems such as buses and the U-Bahn which was the main reason I avoided the S-Bahn system, other than when first arriving in Berlin, in favour of the other two modes of transportation, hence the reason I sadly feel the Berlin S-Bahn deserves a single one star rating.

The U2 and U9 Unter-Bahn lines run through the station and there is a bus terminal just outside the station There is a selection of fast food restaurants and little shops in the station. From looking at these, you would guess that the national cuisine must comprise kebabs, Chinese noodles and Currywurst! They lose a star because it can be difficult to get information about which platform to catch trains from, so do your research beforehand. Otherwise, it's a model of German efficiency with all modes of transport seeming to run like clockwork I can recommend basing yourself in this area for a visit to Berlin

Beside the Berlin zoo, there are also got many cool shops and malls around, it simply made it a great area to shop, you can also go from here to the Tiergarten, to have yourself a walk or a bicycle trip. The station itself it quite big, there are come shops and restaurants inside as well. So no worries, if you are in hurry and hungry. It got information board everywhere to help the passengers better to find their way to the right train, the station itself is a city to city station. So it quite easy to get lost, just follow the signs on the wall. If you just want to have a short trip to Potsdam, you can take RE7, which usually it will stop at platform 3 or 4. Also work with S7, which at platform 6. Don't forget to get a ticket for C area first and valid it. You can also take the S-Bahn here back the Berlin main railway station (Berlin Hauptbahnhof). It got quite a big bus station outside as well. It's very convenient. The U-Bahn system of here does system a bit messy. For example, the U2 line, if you want to get to the other side, you have to go up and down for this, it really took some time away. For the people who in hurry, that's really a horrible experience. I hope, they can make it much more convenient for the passengers. U1, U2 and U9 are the available line that could switch here.

Get a cold beer before entering the bus and sit back and listen to the bilingual presentation. One interesting fact not noted by the tour guide was that wherever the Wall previously stood, and a street has been paved over the spot, a line of red bricks have been set into the pavement to permanently indicate where it stood. This bus tour is the absolute best way to orient yourself to the many wonders that Berlin offers.

With the 2.10 Euro ticket you trip can last up to 2 hours which means that you can get out at any stop and proceed your journey with the next bus. And for 6.30 Euro you can travel Bus, S-Bahn and U-Bahn in the zones A and B the whole daylong. Anyway if you start at Alexanderplatz, you will drive past the TV tower, Lustgarten & Museumsinsel / Museums island, Berliner Dom, Humboldt-University, and State Opera (from which it's just a 5 Minute walk to one of the most beautiful Berliner squares Gendarmenmarkt). You will see almost the whole Unter den Linden street. The bus will stop right in front of the Reichstag, from which you can walk to the Brandenburger Tor, Pariser Platz and the Memorial For the Murdered Jews of Europe. From the bus you will catch the sight of the Bundeskanzleramt, Haus der Kulturen der Welt/ House of the Cultures of the World, Schloss Bellevue, Siegessäule/ Victory Column, and Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche/ Memory Church. Mind that most times of the day the bus is as full with people as a cucumber with seeds. No wonder as for many tourists it is the best way to explore Berlin. Take the S-Bahn to get back to the Alexanderplatz and to enjoy a couple of nice views of Berlin or may be to get out at the Hackescher Markt for a relaxing beer in one of the hundrends of street cafes. Yes, afther the 100 Bus journey you definitely deserve a beer!
