After seeing his videos and watching him work in person, I can say his workmanship and knowledge is top notch. I ended up spotting a Autoharp in the display case and asking about it. She told me that she's make me a good deal on it. She quoted a price about half of what I anticipated, and I walked out with a new to me autoharp, with all fingerpicks, two books of music, and a tuning hammer suited to the harps pegs in a case. Fret buzz, twisted neck (!), intonation problems, electronic problems, etc. From past experience, I knew that if I took it into other larger places like GC or Sam Ash (or even the smaller boutique guitar repair stores in Philly), the techs would probably return it to me in the same condition, claiming that they had done the work. On a lark, I decided to try Andy's repair services. He works out of his home, and does more of the heavy-duty work at a shop somewhere. I am so glad that I came to him. He sent me regular e-mails to update me on repair progress (over Thanksgiving week!), had the flexibility to give me back my guitar temporarily over the break in a playable state (!!), consulted with me about repair details and options throughout the entire process, answered any questions that I had by e-mail in a timely fashion, and worked around my hectic schedule and let me drop off and pick up my guitar at bizarre hours!!! I have never seen any other tech work with their customers in such a personalized and professional fashion. He took a lot of time and effort on my guitar, and you can tell he takes pride in his work. It plays great now. I'm afraid if I post this, he'll get a bunch of new business, never be able to maintain my guitars, and raise his already reasonable prices. However, I can't keep him a secret. They wanted $80 to ship?! Really!? Monster Music in NY ships for free! Guy at Drome told me they would get a proper shipping estimate. They let my Reverb offer expired. I didn't hear back from them. So I put in another offer, they rejected it almost right away. I sent them a PM message, that I wasn't happy. I called them on the phone and the guy said he was too busy and he was a little rude. Bad customer service people. No one wants to hear excuses you obviously had time to reject my offer! There are literally thousands of guitars on Reverb. You can find great deals for almost anything. Don't buy from brick and mortar stores they are outdated, lack selection, overcharge and sell new crappy guitars. Find a dealer on Reverb that has a return policy. Use USPS it's $30-$40 to ship a guitar. UPS and Fedex are the worse companies, porch thieves love them cause they dump and run. Bad music stores pass those high costs on to you and don't care. This doesn't make brick and mortar stores competitive. FedEx and UPS are in SERIOUS financial trouble for a reason. If you are a dealer and you use them, you will also suffer or continue ripping off customers by charging high shipping.
