I am so pleased with the great piano teacher match through Shining Light Music. When I called to…read moreinquire about teachers, I communicated that our requirements are stringent: my son is 6 yrs old, and while he likes piano, he doesn't looove piano, so the lessons have to be fun and engaging to encourage his progress. He's had 1.5 years piano instruction, and he doesn't respond well to some of the "too basic" piano book courses we had temporarily explored with a couple past teachers, so it's a challenge to level him up with material and technique that is age appropriate and fun enough but not too basic, nor too complex. And we had limited time availabilty as our schedules are maxed... It's such a blessing that the receptionist recommended Ms. Emily Shelp! Ms. Emily is well qualified; she possesses a Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy from Bob Jones University and has been playing since she was 7 yrs old. Her bio is coming soon to the Shining Light Music teacher page. Best of all, she strikes the right notes - I couldn't resist the pun! - in working on my son's technique and making it fun. She motivates him with weekly fun point-competitions (to earn country stickers in his passport, medals, trophy, etc.) which has resulted in him reminding me that he has to memorize a song for the next lesson..cuz he wants the points! (whoo hoo, he's no longer resistant to practicing!!!!) I feel that she is the right piano teacher for his current level and needs; she employs a cheerful and focused Kindergarten/First Grade encouraging teaching style to keep all the lessons fun and on track, she's able to motivate and consistently award with positive reinforcement, able to redirect him when he gets silly (after all he's been in school all day, then straight to his lesson!) and I appreciate how she is able to teach finer technique in a way that he understands. She would be great for both beginner and advanced students.

I searched online for lessons and came across the Music House in Overland Park. After completing their online form, I received a call from Alex. From the very first conversation, Alex set the tone for what would become a wonderful experience. He asked thoughtful questions about what I hoped to accomplish and even humored me when I admitted that the first song I was attempting to learn was none other than Led Zeppelin's The Ocean, a tough one for a beginner. I scheduled my first session and was greeted warmly by the staff, something that remained consistent every single week I walked through the door. Music has always been an important part of my life, but over the years, the "play" part faded away. Taking lessons at the Music House, especially under Alex's patient and kind guidance, has been about so much more than just learning the instrument. I now know the basics of how to play the drums, but more importantly, I've rediscovered the joy of learning something new (even in mid-life) and the confidence that comes with stepping outside of my comfort zone. The Music House is a place where encouragement, kindness, and great teaching come together, and I can't recommend it highly enough to anyone looking to begin (or return to) their musical journey.

We used Jukeboxx Media for our wedding after receiving a recommendation from our venue coordinator…read more We were married at Studio Dan Meiners in Kansas City, and everything else was so on point with them that we took their suggestion to hire JM and ran with it. We originally wanted a string trio for more traditional wedding music, and planned to switch to a DJ after the ceremony. We had a phone consultation with Chris about what kind of music we wanted, and he accommodated us for a late night phone call (despite being a dad with two young kids!) which we really appreciated. My (now) husband and I went over our style of music which was Jazz/R&B and Chris ended up adjusting our day-of trio to a jazz trio, to better fit our music taste. Chris/JM allowed us to request two...uh... *interesting* choices for our processional/recessional. We said "....how do you feel about Outkast 'Prototype' for the processional and a Talking Heads song for the recessional?" and his response was "Awesome." What a weird request - so grateful for Chris for making our choice a reality. Day of, the trio was on time and well dressed. The songs turned out BEAUTIFUL and I had chills walking down the aisle to two incredible songs that meant a lot to me and my dude. The rest of their two hour period was Jazz/R&B style and our guests LOVED it. Lots and lots of compliments on having something a little different and really high end for the ceremony/cocktail hour. We would recommend them again in heartbeat. We spent more on desserts than we did on our trio and we wish we had paid them for longer! Hire them!
