Had you told me that my best gelato experience in Brazil would be in the Sao Paulo airport I would have told you to get lost, but that was very honestly the case thanks to Bacio di Latte.
Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere?
Bacio di Latte is more or less an upscale airport kiosk that surrounds the international departures out of GRU, but they do a really great job giving it the vibe and decor of a stand alone shop. There's a kitchen in the back, a classy setup out front, and fast and friendly servers. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
Airports are airports when it comes to food and desserts, and that's especially the case when it comes to prices. Here at Bacio di Latte I paid BR$ 16,00 for a medium, which was the exact same size as what I'd paid BR$ 9,00 for in Rio earlier that same day. Now, that's still less than $5 using 2016 exchange rates, which is a win. Star Granted.
Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
While it shocked me given airports reputation for quality food, the gelato at Bacio di Latte (I got chocolate and caramel) was significantly better than what I'd had elsewhere in Sao Paulo and Rio. Potently flavorful and with good consistency, I thoroughly enjoyed both flavors prior to my flight, and honestly wished I could have tried some of the other great sounding options like mint chocolate chip, dark chocolate, etc. Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
I won't get carried away here with a fifth star given that Bacio di Latte still fell a bit short of some of the elite gelato I've had around the world, but this is a perfectly valid pre-flight stopping point that I'd highly recommend. No Star Granted. read more
