For the last three years, the owner of our rental in Corolla Light has gifted us with baskets of wine, meats, cheeses and crackers from Bacchus Wine and Cheese, and they have been incredible. They've been delivered by Steve, one of the nicest gentlemen you'll ever meet. This year, we decided to pay a visit, enjoy a tasting, and pick up some wine and sandwiches (which we ate at the Beer Garden in Corolla Light). They have a wide selection of wine, cheese, snacks and a full deli menu of excellent sandwiches, snacks and such. Two very friendly, knowledgeable women were there to help us out with all of our needs. They run great playlist of rock music, making for a great OBX vibe. We've been here many times, both in the new location and the original. We always look forward to our visits. Sadly, our experience a few days ago was disappointing. As usual, the staff here were really friendly. However, my son and I got the chicken salad wraps and they had a very strange and unpleasant flavor. We couldn't eat them. I don't know how to describe it except to say both extremely salty and bitter. My husband even tried it and agreed. I'm not sure if this is the intentional recipe and due to a seasoning they used but as someone who enjoys all varieties of chicken salad, all I can say is that I've never tasted anything like it. If this had been a dine in order, I would have said something to the staff but it was takeout. Fortunately, my husband enjoyed his starving surfer and my other son enjoyed his chipotle chicken so they still had lunch. read more

What a cute little wine shop with a deli to boot. We needed a break from the beach and touristy stuff. This shop is around the corner from the food lion in Corolla. Its great! Also priced out the Caymus and Quilt and they were equally over priced. The sandwiches were mediocre for the $13 price tag. Looks like the ownership has changed and the vibe is different. Came here with some friends when I was in the OBX for Thanksgiving with them (shout out to having friends with a beach house!!) The woman who was working (I believe, also the owner) was absolutely lovely. She was super sweet and made each sandwich fresh and by hand. Additionally, she had no difficulties obliging with "kid requests". The ability to order a glass of wine by the glass to accompany your sandwich is always awesome. Bacchus has some varieties of wine and beer I've never seen before, making it a great place to browse even if you're not necessarily looking to buy. Chances are you'll find something you want! The employees were wonderful and were more than happy to share lunch recommendations. I had the house made chicken salad on a pretzel bun, which was phenomenal. The fixings on the sandwich, such as lettuce and tomato, were also incredibly fresh and crisp. One of their most popular sandwiches is called the Currituck Club, which is a club sandwich with a small amount of apple butter on it. I thought this was very innovative, as I've never seen apple butter on a savory sandwich before. My sister ordered this sandwich and gave me a taste - let's just say that if I ever make it back to Bacchus, that's definitely the sandwich I will be ordering! Wow! My entire group agreed that these sandwiches were a cut above the rest. Ingredients and execution were both wonderful. We are in our 4th year of renting out our home and we have had Bacchus deliver a delicious chocolate cake to our renters since day 1. Our renters rave about the chocolate cake on our reviews. So I am sad to report that I am breaking up with Bacchus. I've been going there for the last three or four sets of owners and it's always been something I looked forward to for each of several trips a year we make to Corolla. While the most recent owners are very nice and clearly work hard, the quality of the sandwiches has declined to the point that they are just not worth the cost. The taste is good, but the amount of meat, cheese, etc you get in each sandwich just does not warrant the high prices. When two sandwiches, two (admittedly large) cookies and two glasses of wine total over $40, there are just better places to spend your money. It's still a lovely place to sit while you eat, and--again--the owner/operators are very pleasant, so still three stars. But, alas, no longer a must-go destination for me and my family. read more

Stopped in for a quick sandwich on the way to the beach - lots of great options and the quality is very good. I find it nuts that there was no line here but there was a huge line at Subway (why?!?). I got the turkey-reuben like sandwich (don't remember what it was called) and it was very good, I especially liked that it was grilled. My friends liked their sandwiches a lot too. They had some free samples out and I caved and bought the cheese crisps which were very yummy. They have a huge selection of wines, cheeses, dips, meats, and other speciality goods. We thoroughly enjoyed our semi private wine food pairing. I had previously been to their events in the evening but I found this far more intimate and relaxed. We were treated to 7 wines coupled with tasting snacks including Brie with date bread, shrimp with wasabi, pasta salad, peppers stuffed with blue cheese, queso with guacamole chips, steak on toast and finishing with a dark chocolate cup filled with Merlot. Many of the wines featured were from One Hope; each wine has a cause ranging from breast cancer, pediatric AIDs, troop support, dog rescue etc. and a significant portion of the sales goes to that charity. We enjoyed chatting with Kim, the owner, as we sipped our wine and nibbled on our treats. It was very pleasant and relaxing. We also stop here frequently for a glass of wine and yummy sandwich on our first day down before tackling Food Lion. read more

Our family has a trip to Carova planned for September 9. In mid-August, I called Bacchus and asked if they sold a particular brand of beer (Victoria, from Mexico). Jennifer said no, but that she'd ask her distributor if they could get us 6 cases by our arrival date. One great thing about this place is their wine tasting. You would be hard pressed to find anywhere close by that has the selection of wine AND expertise that they do. Their prices are higher than I'd like, but it is a tourist spot so that's to be expected. They also offer local vineyard bottles, and they actually are pretty decent as well. By no means am I a wine connoisseur, but I do have my preferences and Bacchus has a great selection.
