Named after the Greek god of wine and ecstasy (yeah I know my Greek mythology, what of it?), Bacchus is a quiet little antiques shop on one of the busiest streets in Edinburgh (Victoria Street), leading on to one of the most touristy areas in town (Grassmarket).
Wait, named after the god of wine and ecstasy and in tourist town? Why so quiet then? It's because they're a corkscrew specialist! Oh, of course! This place is like a time warp. Even the façade is like a Victorian throwback (can you have a Victorian throwback? Party like it's 1899??). Time seems to stand still when you go in Bacchus. It's actually quite pleasant for a touch of serenity.
Inside, it's dusty and a little quirky. I struggled to find out their opening times - they seem to pick and choose, like a lot of antique shops seem to do. Great collection of corkscrews though. read more
