I am a certified Talavera junkie. I've been collecting this gorgeous and addictive master ceramic…read morework for many years now. I have spent thousands of dollars on this ultra high level Talavera from both Talavera de la Reyna and Uriarte Talavera. My dishes, tile work and endless serving pieces are all from one of these two great makers.
It has been a joy that will no longer include Talavera de la Reyna. I would warn all to avoid this formally great company at this point. The pieces both in their studio and at their museum are frequently flawed. Blobs of zagged clay and platters that rock back and forth on a table are common. You could still find great pieces by looking carefully however DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING SHIPPED. A friend an I were just there and purchased various pieces. We paid for the shipping (approx $250 US- already too high) for our pieces at the studio. Now they insist on charging $1000 US for ADDITIONAL shipping charges. This is criminal.
My previous shopping trip there last year involved an situation where they insisted that each platter ( 16 inch diameter) be shipped separately at a shipping charge of $200 USD PER PLATTER! My local friend argued them out of this last year.
Now however they have the credit card number. These people can no longer be trusted. If you do shop there, you'll have to carry the pieces back in your own luggage.
This is very sad since their best work is stunning. Avoid them like the plague however and don't suffer as we have.
