Bab Al Yemen is a popular neighborhood Yemenite restaurant serving locals in a lively atmosphere! To start, the Mix Appetizer Platter came with hummus, baba ghanoug, moutabal, and muhamarra (a spicy red pepper dip), along with a huge round of warm, chewy, layered Moulawah bread with black sesame seeds top. The fresh flatbreads here were definitely a highlight and went perfectly with all the different dips and stews. Speaking of which, we had the Lamb Sanouna, a stew of tender chunks of lamb with vegetables including potatoes, zucchini, and peppers, all in a spiced tomato sauce, served in a sizzling stone pot. We also had the Tanoor Fish, a butterflied dorado with a light spice coating, cooked in a tanoor oven and served with Sahawq, a sauce made of grated tomatoes, green peppers, parsley, cheese, and garlic. The fish was mild in flavor but the Sahawq added just the right acidic brightness and slightly spicy kick. Overall, this was an amazing place to experience the flavors of Yemen among the local community, and the service was super friendly too! read more
