Disappointing Thai Massage Experience with Unprofessional Staff
Pictured here was the very ride front desk woman.
I have traveled all over the world and received AMAZING Thai massages in every place. Even the worst Thai massage is still pretty good.
I was SO excited to treat myself for my birthday, especially since I was sore from so much walking.
I arrived 15 to 20 minutes early, used the bathroom, and was shown to the room.
I asked for a Thai oil massage, which I've had many times before.
Initially, the woman's pressure through the towel was lovely.
However, when it came time to apply the oil, she merely rubbed it on my skin without actually massaging my muscles.
I had clarified why I was there and what I needed.
After all, they are there to be of service and it's ok to say what you like and need!
I paused to ask someone to instruct her to apply more pressure and to actually massage my muscles, as that is the whole point of a massage.
The language barrier maybe made communication difficult.
When the woman came in to instruct the massage therapist, she ended up giving more pressure but in a very unskilled way. Only using pressure on the tissue that hurts, not on the muscles.
She abruptly applied so much pressure to my neck without any warning and I got an immediate headache. I actually have a bruise there now.
It was clear she wasn't listening to my body, maybe isn't trained in oil massage.
As someone who trains massage therapists around the world, including at the Four Seasons Hotels - I can assure you she did not do a good job and wasn't paying attention to my body. Body language doesn't need to be translated if you know how to read and listen to a body. Which a gifted or even trained massage therapist knows how to do.
I asked the massage therapist if I could get up and leave, but she didn't understand me so I just let it continue.
When I expressed my disappointment afterward, the staff became upset with me, blaming me for my dissatisfaction rather than addressing the poor service.
They wanted me to pay for only an hour when the massage wasn't even what I asked for and that was 90 minutes. So I paid for an hour massage and I got maybe 75 min of someone putting oil on my skin and not massaging me at all.
When a business blames the customer for not enjoying or being disappointed in their service, that's a sign of narcissism and unwellness.
This kind of behavior needs to stop in the world.
I would not recommend this place. read more
