Hello, Last months I…read morevisited this pharmacy (Apotheke Schaffhauserplatz) to get my prescriptions. I was "helped" by Mr. Thomas Kappeler and I honestly have to say that my experience with this man was horrible. One of the worst and insulting customer service experiences of my life. In the past I've witness how courteous and respectfully he was to others that obviously speak the German language. Well, that was not my experience. He clearly has a problem with foreigners that have not yet mastered German or don't understand the language at all. Mr Kappeler works in the healthcare system, and I would like to remind everyone that if you work in the healthcare system you are supposed to help every sick person humbly and equally so they can improve their lives. During my experience with Mr. Thomas Kappeler he was out of line and acting very rude. Right after he spoke to me in the beginning of the "conversation" I said to him clearly, "I'm sorry, I don't speak German" and asked him if he knew English. He said three words in perfect English in regards my medication and then continued speaking and asking me things in German. I then said to him, "I'm sorry but I really don't understand anything that you said". Then with an arrogant attitude he asked me in English how long I have been in zurich. To which I replied (even though it was none of his business) that I have been here almost a year. He then responded as if he was shocked, "a year!, and you haven't learned German by now?" The way he said it he was clearly mocking me. And I replied "I said less than a year! 8 months to be exact!" He then continued mumbling things in German to himself and acting very disrespectfully right in front of me. The employees next to him were looking over at us probably wondering why Mr Kappeler was being so rude! But they didn't say a thing, they were probably scared of losing their jobs because its my understanding that Mr. Kappeler happens to be in charge of the pharmacy. At this point I was feeling so sick because of the pain that I was feeling in my body which was the reason why I was there getting medications that I didn't care to say anything to this Mr. Kappeler. In others words, he was lucky that I kept quiet due to not feeling well because I was very upset and feeling violated as any person would have felt in my position. Few minutes later after me finally processing what Mr. kappeler was doing, I responded, "You know, and even if I was here a year I wouldn't be able to fluently speak your language because it takes time!" It would be ridiculous to expect someone to learn and clearly understand German in less than a year! Mr. kappeler obviously has a great background education and he even studied in England so he obviously knows English. So he had no reason why not to accommodate the need of his customers and speak English to those who can not yet communicate in German. I would like to say to Mr. Kappeler that you don't know me personally and neither the reason why I am in this country. And if I can't communicate yet in your language it is not because I came to this country not caring to integrate and learn the language ever. As a matter of fact I do study German and if it wasn't for the traveling that my career requires me to do I would be learning German a lot better and probably faster but I'm working on learning with the little time I have free when I'm in Zurich. I went to your pharmacy feeling sick on my day off to get medication. Your only job was to be compassionate and help me by giving me my medication pleasantly not give me a hard time for not being able to speak your language; something that has nothing to do with your job responsibilities and is completely unprofessional of you to even comment on. As I said, you work in the healthcare system, you are supposed to help people feel better not help them feel worse after they leave your pharmacy. Mr Kappeler, for somebody with so much education and that works related to customer service, I would have expected much better respect and kindness to others from you. It's a shame that you couldn't treat me with the same respect and professionalism that you give your German speaking customers. Mr Thomas Kappeler I would recommend you to treat all of your customers equally and with respect no matter where they're from unless you don't care about losing your customers.
