My experience from renting from B-H.
The good, the maintenance group was excellent. With any problems reported, they would often have it resolved quickly. Actually, the condition of the place was very good. New hardwood floors, new counter tops and what looked to be all new faucets.
Maintenance also changed the furnace filter for you every quarter and they did annual inspections, just as an FYI, they will access your place throughout the year if you choose to rent one of their places.
Accepting all payments through portal. Throughout my entire stay not a single issue at all regarding payments. Very easy to navigate their portal. Wish everything were that easy in life.
Now for a complaint, the refrigerator, what a lousy piece of crap that was. Couldn't even place items in the door. In addition, it broke down twice while I was the tenant and my food spoiled both times. That's how I know the response time of the maintenance staff. Each time they responded within 24 hours and somehow hobbled that thing together to keep it going. So, new floors, new counters, new sinks, and new toilet, but the crappy of crappiest refrigerator they could possibly find.
Not having A/C in the unit was a bummer too, and when I mentioned that to Angie, she said that the building's owner would actually consider it. Maybe for some future tenants, but not likely.
The application process will leave you annoyed. They get the back round check you pay for, but then they also get the same information from like e-verify which includes all your employment data, but they still want even more, like pay check stubs and I go on. By the time I got the keys from Angie, B-H had my complete financial history going back to like 2008. A real roto-rooter exam.
When it came time to provide notice and move out. I provided a full sixty days' notice, provided it in writing and followed up with a phone call. The leasing agent immediately set up appointments and showed the place a few times after setting up about ten appointments. Then they canceled the remaining appointments because they found a new tenant. They kept me very informed about when they were planning to enter the apartment.
Now comes the disappointing part. I must confess I was very agitated when I received notice that this wasn't good enough to get all my deposit back. On the statement, it read, "Screen repair". I immediately went to my lease to reassure myself that I was only responsible for replace, not repair. I felt slighted, after what I thought was a very positive leasing arrangement why would they shortchange me like this. I emailed Brian and Angie and provided them with a note of my dissatisfaction. Brian and Angie went to great lengths to demonstrate their rightful position. After several communications, it was obvious that they were not going to budge from their decision and I am out the twenty-five dollars. If I had children or pets, please just consider what this means, because if a man who lived alone and was rarely at his apartment due to work loses part of his deposit imagine what would happen to you.
Please view pictures right here on Yelp, those were taken as I moved out. Again, not good enough to get my entire deposit back. read more
