We learnt the hard way that Ben Gallagher, who lives in North Leeds, is a con artist and a cow boy builder, please avoid him at all costs. Ben took over £1000 from me and my wife as a deposit for a joinery job on our house. The deposit, we were told, was to pay for materials but after seeing him trying to use recycled wood I contacted the supplier he was using who informed us that Ben had not paid them. Ben lied to us repeatedly, didn't turn up when he said he would and tried to con us out of further money in the process. When it came to light he wasn't going to do the work we paid him for he stopped answering his phone and is now trying to seek a IVA to get out of paying back his debts in full. It is unlikely we will ever get our money back. We are a young family and he has stolen our hard earned savings as well as countless other families in the middle of a pandemic when everyone is struggling. Ben is a total conman. We paid him £800 as a deposit to fit fire doors as required for Building Regs. We specified the make and style. I took a week of annual leave only to not have him turn up for the first 2 days giving me pathetic excuses as to why he couldn't come. When he eventually did he brought cheap, flimsy doors which he insisted were fire doors although they obviously weren't. He fitted 2 in an appalling way ( cardboard packing behind the hinges, wonky screws, etc). We googled the code on the doors and they were £25 cheap ones, not fire doors. We've no chance of getting our £800 back. Looking at other review sites he's done this to other people. Ben should be ashamed of himself.
