I read the reviews here, and thought that this would be the best dentistry for me
I was very wrong.
I took out 3 wisdom teeth and had one coronectomy (when you take out half a tooth because it's wrapped around a nerve). I was sent home with gauze pads. No corsodyl, no antibiotics. I was awake but high as a kite on valium, procedure seemed to go well, and i think he did a good job- and have had my mouth recently checked by another dentist.
My face began to swell 24hrs after my procedure, I know this is to be expected, and dealt with the pain at home without concern.
48 hours after my procedure, I developed a rock hard lump on my jaw. I called B-Dental for an emergency appointment-the man that did my teeth was away for the week so I saw a different dentist. i explained to two employees that I thought I had an infection and that I needed ANTIBIOTICS. They smelt my breath and said that i was fine. I begged them for antibiotics and anti-swelling medicine- I was told they couldn't give me anything without the permission of the doc who did it. They sent me home without them.
The next day the hard lump grew twice the size, soft swelling had spread down to my neck making it's way toward my airway I told them to see me (again!) after waiting 2 hours, I told them again- HELLO SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH MY FACE. they called the guy who did the extractions, they handed me the phone- he laughed- i begged for antibiotics again- he said no, that I definitely didn't need them, i found him flippant and casual
diagnosing me as fine without even touching my face. So I pressed him again.
He said if I want be seen for 'assurance's sake', then I should meet him at another hospital he works at.
Instead of going to see him for "assurance", I went to A&E- didn't take them long to conclude I had an infection- it was too late for antibiotic pills as the swelling was making its way toward my airway- I ended up on an IV 2 days later with strong doses of steroids to bring the swelling down. The lump on my jaw has burst since- and I spent 2 days spitting out puss.
What bothers me the most about this dentistry- is the negligence, the lack of care I was shown, I don't know if it's because I'm relatively young or what no one took me seriously.
I wrote a letter of complaint- the dentist responded with 3 pages of what I could summarise by: "oh sorry, love".
Begging for antibiotics, being turned away, then ending up in whitechapel a&e on a drip is just not fun. read more
