I thought it was worth reviewing because, whilst it doesn't have the exciting kind of stock that the London Street Grocery's got, it sells booze and it's got a free cash machine. Hurrah!

It was only when I got outside and was on my way, that I realised that the newspaper had the price of £3.50 printed on it, but I was charged £4.70 and £2.10 for two bananas. That's daylight robbery ! We have an account with them through my job to get milk and papers and they are always very friendly when we go over and they are professional and helpful when dealing with invoicing and payment. The shop has a wide range of things from sandwiches, ice lollies, sweets and crisps to magazines, greeting cards and paracetamol. Some of the things are on the pricey side, a few pence more than other newsagents but it is the centre of town!

It's not the terrible flimsy cards that you get there either. The cards are of fantastic quality and normally 99p and under! Their gift bags are also of good quality and they also have small gifts that all cards shops stock for fantastic prices! The layout is brilliant, everything is easy to find and the staff are corteous and helpful! The shop and displays are clean and everything is clearly prices. The downfall - You can't always find the envelopes for the card that you have picked!

Stocking newspapers, magazines, general stationery and more - they always sort you out of you need to pick up some light reading material for a journey. Their book selection is pretty decent if a little pricey and I do always find it funny how their travel section tends to have loads of books on random destinations and not the ones leaving from that airport. Most times they offer a free bottle of water when buying the telegraph - get on this deal! Refreshment and reading for the same price!

Inside, it's a well-stocked newsagent that could easily compete with a small Scotmid or Costcutter. Not only does it have the basics a newsagent should have - magazines, sweets, drinks - it also has some other grocery items, like tinned food, cleaning products and the like. I was pleasantly surprised at what was stocked. I imagine I will use this a fair bit if I've forgotten something, and don't want to go all the way to Asda or Sainsbury's. This small place is crammed full of stock, and should satisfy a craving for a quick bite, or a dash for some washing tablets. We can often take newsagents for granted, and this place is a good example of what they should be like.

Central Superstore is located on the Grassmarket. Given its size and its name, you might think this…read morewas more than a newsagents/wee grocers. It's not. Even when you walk in, its shiny bright wooden flooring, its tidy shelves, its bright lit walls, make you think this is something greater. In reality it still offers the basic range of broadsheets and tabloids, confectionery, and some sandwiches and snacks. As Mark points out there is also a strangely small selection of household goods like cleaning products and toiletries. I still appreciate that Central Superstore make a touch more effort on presentation than most. With most newsagents looking quite homogeneous, at least this one stands out a little.
