8 ounce prime rib, medium.

Prime rib is back!! Generous portions and cooked to perfection. If you haven't visited the Hitching Post in Portage for a while, it's time to go back. Service & food are great, with soup and salad bar to boot. Overall an excellent stop for your next meal.

It's been several years since I've last been to this restaurant. My memory includes decent food and mostly rude service. I decided to give it another shot. Mainly because my first choice wasn't open on Sunday anymore. I called ahead to see if there was a wait list. No waiting. Score #1. When we arrived there were several other groups coming in at the same time. Still no waiting and immediate seating. Lisa was our server. Score #2. Lisa was friendly & could not have been more perfect. She took our drink orders and returned almost immediately with them. When we were ready she took our food order. I'm always beyond impressed when a server can take your order without writing anything down. 4 people in our group. Lots of banter while we were ordering. Several special requests. Not one mistake. Not one! How does someone perfect that?! It's a mystery to me. Lisa has it down pat. Lisa is the reason I'll be coming back. I can get decent food anywhere but lately it seems I can't get decent service. I get it. Pandemic, staffing shortages especially in the food service industry, new employees, etc. If I owned a restaurant I'd be trying to steal her away from this restaurant for mine. Keep up the great work Lisa! We appreciate you.

This is an experience. You cook your own meat on volcanic stones. They are super hot and if you…read moredon't like to try cooking your own meat you won't enjoy this. Be aware that adding butter over the top of your meat while it's searing will cause some splashing and little hot droplets of butter may land on you. We ordered the Volcanic Punch with the take home specialty punch dish/mug. It's very cute and comes out with a flame coming out from the middle. It tasted good, not overly alcoholic and not too sweet. Easy to drink but if I went again I would get my own drink because it's a little annoying sliding the drink across the table every few minutes so each person can take a sip. We started with the Seared Ahi Tuna which you cook on the lava stone. This one is easy because you just sear it really well on each side and can eat the inside pretty raw. Then we had an order of the mussels. These come in a tomato based sauce which was good but we had hoped for a more butter or wine base. Then we shared the seafood trio and steak trio. The scallops were fantastic! The salmon I wasn't that fond of. All the steak trio meats were delicious but do take longer to cook on the stone. I will say the quality of meat was pretty good. Our server was very informative and funny! The restaurant is a little smoky inside because of all of the cooking happening at eat table. Overall it was a cool experience but I don't see us going back again, only because I'd rather have someone else cook my food

Hands down one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I was staying across the street at…read moretreescapes and wanted to try here for dinner. I've only ever cooked on a lava stone once before, so I was excited to do it again. The tiki theme in here is well executed and super cute. Obviously I had to get the shark bite drink and take home the shark cup because now I'm prepared for shark week. I forwent apps because I had a feeling the meal itself would be filling and it definitely was for me at least (I'd been swimming all day). My salmon was delish and I appreciated my waiter's instructions on how to cook it. I also grilled up my side of broccoli and some extra mushrooms and onions in butter on the stone. The garlic mashed potatoes on the side too were a great call. I'd literally drive 14 hours at least one way to come back here and eat, I'm not kidding. Beyond delicious, it's an experience to remember for sure.

We arrived about 15 minutes early for our 7:45pm reservation on a Saturday and sat at the bar for a drink. I opted for a morning glow and an espresso martini. Both were decent, I would probably explore another option next time. Seating took a little longer than we thought, seated around 8pm. I'll be honest, at first our sever seemed like a jerk, but quickly turned it around. We started with the cheesecurds, we ate every single one of them. The salads that come with dinner were the perfect size and the bread was a nice touch. We went with a couple of different steaks and they were some of the best cuts we have ever had. As avid 801 Chop in Minneapolis this place blew them out of the water. Second best thing were the mashed potatoes- holy crap, so good! The hash browns were okay but I would have been sad if that was my only option. We were stuffed but the flourless chocolate cake was calling our names. I'm SO glad we pushed through and ordered it, it was a 12/10! Order this, even if you're full and thank me later! Check this place out, you wont be sorry!

I ordered the 6 oz filet (medium) which was charred on the outside and melted in my mouth. My husband had the boneless ribeye - very little fat and one of his top 5 all time best steaks. I had the spicy margarita which was so good. They had a lot of dessert options but we didn't order any. The place was dimly lit so it was a very romantic date night. The reason for my 4/5 stars is that a margarita in a small bar glass should not be $15. Our total bill for 2 lobster bisques, 1 6 oz filet, 1 16 oz ribeye, a beer, and a margarita was $172. I feel like we ordered should not have been that expensive, but I guess it because of the dells.

It is a very cool feel when you get inside, with a large bar room and bar area. The dining area itself is quite small, but we just sat in the bar room. We ordered after dinner drinks and desserts. All were quite delicious! Cotton candy cheesecake will change your life! Even if you don't like cotton candy, you need to try it! The death by chocolate was SO rich. It was delicious mousse on top of thick fudge, and I'd love just a whole plate of the mousse and some ice cream! The guys in our group got the after dinner drinks and thought the grasshopper and pink squirrel were perfection! We got to chat with Sam, the owner, and she was just the SWEETEST! We said we will have to come back another time and actually get dinner there! Can't wait to come back.

On our ongoing quest to visit all the supper clubs in Wisconsin (with the list hovering around 260,…read moreno easy feat), we recently stopped by The Cove Supper Club while staying at a cabin in Briggsville. The Cove serves up the usual supper club fare with, in true supper club fashion, the option to stop at the bar prior to being seated at your table. We decided to just go ahead and order drinks at our table vs the bar and were able to be seated immediately on a Saturday evening (it was a bit earlier in the evening, but still--nice!). For an appetizer, we ordered the bruschetta, which was solid. It was served with a sprinkle of parmesan and a drizzle of balsamic. For my cocktail, I ordered their bourbon old fashioned. It was also good. My dining companion ordered a Bulleit bourbon Manhattan, requesting it served up with cherries. It ended up coming served with olives, which is an oddity we've only come across in Wisconsin. He decided to give it a whirl (rather than sending back) and I had a sip as well. We're both decidedly not fans. So...lesson learned on that one! For dinner, I opted for the broiled shrimp and brussels sprouts. The shrimp were plump and broiled to perfection and came with lemon and cocktail sauce. Delish! The brussels sprouts were steamed, which isn't my favorite method for cooking sprouts (would have much prefered oven roasted or sauteed). That said, they tasted fresh. My dining companion ordered their Wisconsin Jambalaya, which was an interesting mix of bratwurst, chicken, shrimp, and rice covered in a spicy wisconsin cheese sauce. I had a taste and thought it was great! Meals come with soup or salad and a dinner roll as well (which was soft and warm!). Our server was friendly and efficient with our meal nicely spaced. Of course we finished the evening with sharing a Grasshopper dessert cocktail, which was simply presented but delicious. Get to it!

We came here on a Friday for fish fry, and arrived shortly after they opened. Good thing, because…read morethey filled up very quickly and we hadn't had a reservation. It was the first weekend they had their patio open to dining, so we naturally chose a spot outside -- in the shade, it was a bit much in the unabated sun. I thought we'd have a river view, but it was hidden behind some trees and a few cabins. Oh well. Still a nice outdoor spot away from the city. We were warned that there was a party of like 20 people coming in shortly to the patio, but we did not notice and interruption in our service as the gang flowed in. I will never love the ability to smoke cigarettes on an outdoor patio, so maybe I should have sat inside, but still worth being outside despite the occasional irritation. To each their own. Our server was great, and was very patient with our slow proces of ordering drinks, appetizers, and the meal in relatively spaced out time periods. The Old Fashioneds were great, without too much of the muddle and soda and more emphasis on the booze -- still a Wisconsin Old Fashioned, though! I enjoyed the cheese curds and was very intrigued by their potato and cheddar crusted cod. I usually get the fried cod during a Friday Fish Fry, but this sounded somehow elevated. Alas, I didn't find it to provide any extra or new flavors, and there was nothing crispy about it. The breading was more like a mooshy exterior that didn't do a ton for the fish. The fish was cooked nicely, but the very high price was very much not warranted. I can get crispier and lower priced cod closer to home, so just can't justify the trip for the fish fry. But then there was dessert. I'm always looking to recreate a favorite (late) childhood dessert that involved brandy infused ice cream. I always ask at a Friday Fish Fry if they can make a Brandy Alexander that's thick enough you need a spoon. They claimed this to be the case, and they did not disappoint. This was a delicious Brandy Alexander and definitely worth a trip back. So, while I wasn't crazy about my overpriced, non-crispy fish fry, I still enjoyed myself and enjoyed my food... I'm glad we came and tried it out, and if you're looking for a nice supper club spot, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

They were the same as any other restaurant. The deviled eggs were 75% mustard. The clam chowder would rank in my top 10 ever with tons of flavor, clams and potatoes. I wish I could eat an entire loaf of that bread. The bluegill and cod were better than the lake perch. The lake perch was fine but not amazing. The hashbrowns ordered with onions and cheese were not flavorful and the cheese was packaged American cheese. I would think a supper club would have real cheese.
