It's been another absolutely brilliant day at Lohrberg and now I can't help but shamelessly wax…read morepoetic about this park. We had a good inkling (big blinking warning signs all over the internet!) of the blustery winds that were to blow through Frankfurt, and so we were primed and ready. Today's gusts were certainly much wilder and the fields were wetter from the rains of yore - all in all much more autumnal than the last time we were out there...but nothing a few more layers and wellies couldn't overcome. A few weekends ago, our spontaneous picnic plans managed to rouse a group of nearly 20 spanning the ages of 8 months to 65+ and it was the most wonderful day of kite flying, kids rolling down the hill, grilling, boisterous bursting into song and bawdy poetry, and finally settling into a slightly tipsy, warmly enveloping and lovely atmosphere with the best group, interspersed with side-splitting amusing observations and ranging to the deepest and often profound thoughts. Dare I say it? We were like a scene out of some Shakespearean sonnet on the Italian riviera, sunkissed and smiling and singing and sunbathing. Maybe a scene out of "Much Ado..."? Before all the deceiving and conniving and wily misunderstandings and fake deaths occur?? Well, almost :) Both the mister and I left reeling from the day, feeling incredibly humbled by the beautiful view of the city skyline as the sun set on our glorious day. Our bike ride home was peaceful and such a fitting close to how seamlessly everything had passed in the previous hours. If it weren't for the occasional huffing and puffing from the uphill bouts to remind me of my grounded rolling state, I could have sworn I was flying. Today was less Italian-riviera, grapes cheese and wine, golden sunlight picnic...and more dare-ye-cross-the-gods-of-wrath as they reveal their great power in the form of wind... It was ruddy fantastic and soooooo impressive to see the clouds race across the sky, sporadic patches sunlight bursting through in brilliant speckles across the yet green field. Mother nature at her best, and leaving us feeling humbled. With his ever-excellent foresight, the mister had patched the kites after the wee mishaps from the last outing, and so all we had to do was load them up in the car and head up to Lohrberg. The winds were a tad bit too mighty for the kites, but we did manage to get a few good go's before settling into a cuddle on the field with a brush of warm tea. We stopped into the cafe for a snack before heading home. There are a solid good number of fantastic parks in the Frankfurt area, so I'm not going to rave that this is the best. However, Lohrberg is up there. It's just got that magical, mystical something that has never failed to provide that delightful atmosphere for a relaxing, happy time - no matter the gustery blustery state of the winds.
