It's a great way to get to know your city and also pick up some great bargains. Typically held during spring and summer it's an event most locals look forward to. Centered around Wörthstraße the Haidhausen flea market is quite big and loads of residents put out their wares. Tons of clothes, toys, household items and knick knacks about. Don't hesitate to bargain, it is expected ;-)) I always do anyway, it's in my blood "born to negotiate" lol Loads of cafes in the area and you can pop in for coffee or lunch and make a day of it. One of my top three markets in town and one that I try not to miss each year :-)) muenchen.de is the website to find out when all the flea markets around Munich are. If the weather is good it's a fabulous way to spend a day in town.

I was specifically looking for vintage clothing and accessories, there was hardly any. Many other items for sale were in average condition with obvious flaws, prices for a good quality bag in good condition would start from 100 Euros. Lego kits would cost more then on auction sites (I bought one for my children and it was 40 Euros online while similar kits were prices from 65 to 80 at the market). I am sure there were bargains but I was not lucky enough to find them. Overall I did expect much more from a market of this size, I have visited other markets, 10 times smaller and surely cheaper with better choice.

So many people out browsing and buying and loads of families and sellers with their wares out in the courtyards and street selling. The only downside was that there was too much clothes and less of other things. The prices were also very reasonable at most of the places. I love this area of town as it has some great cafes and bars and with the added attraction of the flea market this place really comes alive. I will definitely be back again at this one. We bought some things really cheap and there was so much we left behind as we did not have room in our apartment to put it :-( Besides Schwabing this would be one of the better and bigger ones to go to. I get that most second hand shops in Munich are like boutiques, and I respect and enjoy that…read moreatmosphere and value the price point that goes along with curating the shop floor and showing selective items. But this sort of second hand fashion means upto 80% you donate still ends up in landfill. Flohpalast on the other hand sells everything. Ones trash is another's treasure. The prices are cheaper, the shelves are packed from top to bottom and the stock is updated and discounted daily. They value the true meaning and sentiment behind second hand fashion etc. I think most of these people and second hand organisations forget 1- this stuff is donated 2- it's about reducing waste 3- it's cheap for a reason, the people who buy second hand might not always be doing it out of choice but necessity. This accessible, kind, welcoming shop is the best charity shop in town because it's the only one that's actually like a flea market!
