Dates of stay June 4-10, 2021 Floor/Room: 3, 319 Free Wi-Fi Room features: King bed, medium firm support, 2 firm pillows, TV, 2 night stands, luggage stand, 2 sitting chairs, beverage table, full length mirror, storage & closet for hanging cloths, shower, single sink, electric hot water pot. 2 windows that swing open & open like an oven door partially. The room looks down to the open sitting area below, as well as a covered enclosed area. Views of the Sea of Marmara, and the cityscape/nightscape fantastic. Istanbul has cats roaming all around. This is just the way it is and you should be prepared for this in your travels. Cats are very special here and protected for religious reasons. Why is this info in this review? Because no matter what room you are in, at any hotel you will see and hear cats fighting and screaming 15+ times a day. Room 319 for all of its greatness has this even more so due to the cats lounging below on the patio or roof below. The staff are great and super helpful. However one desk staff member needs to learn to relax on pushing you to go visit a rug and decor store he claims is owned by the same owner of the hotel. Each time I interacted with him it was a constant push to setup a time to go visit the store. If I tell you I don't want or plan or need rugs or home decor leave it rest. Stop pushing it over and over. Please address this whomever owns this Hotel Azade. I am fine with tour recommendations. They have cleaning service coming through each day, and if you choose to they will swap out anything you need. The building is quite clean. To go between floors they have a lift large enough to accommodate 2 people and a couple bags of luggage. There are stairs also. The lobby area is quite large with a few sofas and chairs, art work, etc. Next to the front desk is a metal stand full of different tourist brochures available around the area. The breakfast spread you see in some of the photos definitely isn't what is going on right now. The only place I have encountered almost inedible food since I have arrived in Istanbul is at their morning breakfast. Yet somehow it seems to get worse each day. They have tables setup with the following options. One hot warmer has boiled eggs and reconstituted overly wet particles of scrambled eggs. The next warmer has French fries and some mystery mix you can put over the fries. It has hotdog pieces, green peppers, tomato spices, some French fries on some days or potato on another mixed in. The next warmer has French toast but there is absolutely no syrup to go over on any day. In the same warmer is biscuits. On a table nearby is oranges. Another table a toaster with 3 bread options. Another table cold plates with two very small pieces of what looks like Boulogne, 2 small pyramid chunks of cheese, tomato, lettuce. A drink stand with hot water, cold water, sour cherry juice, peach juice, orange juice all in boxed form. There is a Nescafe machine which will make you shots of Espresso or coffee and cream. Extremely processed foods, and not very tasty in anyway. I really go back up each morning really to see if it will be like in the pictures others have posted, instead of what looks and tastes likely as good as prison food. This really needs to be changed or just don't offer free breakfast, it is that bad. On one of the days they apparently ran out of hotdogs. So they substituted carrots and Persian tiny pickles... On one of the days something was off with the breakfast food. Within an hour my stomach started churning, gurgling and I broke out in heavy sweats. I am ever so thankful I stayed in my hotel room for the day. It was an all day event taking place, and you can read between the lines why. Synopsis: Would I stay here again? Absolutely. The price point was great, the wifi perfect for standard use, the view from the roof terrace and my room spectacular, most of the staff very helpful and friendly, clean. This place is wonderful! Very conveniently located in the historic center - an easy walk to most of the sites and a short walk to many of those. More than that, the beds are soooo comfortable! Sturdy mattress, fluffy comforter, temperature control, modern bathroom and above all helpful and pleasant staff. Why not five stars? I think the bathroom amenities are tampered with (water added). Bring your own soap, shampoo and conditioner or you will be disappointed. I had to open three complimentary shampoo containers before I got one that actually had enough shampoo to create any suds. The overhead shower head didn't work, but the hose shower head did. Lots of hot water - not good drainage. Lights are pretty dim. If you read at night, bring a booklight. Some of the lights in the room didn't work, and we were in the Premier section. The suites are probably nicer. The roof terrace - where the complementary breakfast is served - has amazing views. The clerk suggested to us a guide whom we hired and it was the best, quickest, most economical (time wise) way to see and learn many things in one day. This city is not to be missed! And this hotel makes it even better. I would mos def stay here again! And I'd hire Neami again, too! We stayed here both times during our trips to Istanbul. First for our honeymoon and then later for our babymoon :) we stayed both times in the premier section which was perfect. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and they remembered us when we returned. We felt like family. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The breakfast, although pretty much the same every morning, is delicious and fresh and healthy. The location could not be better. It is a 5 minute walk to sultan Ahmed mosque and all of the restaurants and shops you'd need. The grand bazaar is about a 15 minute walk when you know the shortcuts to take. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Istanbul. read more

Nice hotel inside and out. Excellent Turkish breakfast spread. Just a few hitches... First, the exchange rate is poor. Do not do your exchange here. Go elsewhere. When I asked if there was a fee, I was told "no" only to walk down the street to see a significant devaluation of my USD in the exchange. Glad I didn't get too much at the hotel. Second, I requested a quiet room. They put me on the bottom floor by what turned out to be the smoking area, which was used at all hours... not quiet at all. Third, the room I booked should have had one large bed, but as the first room they attempted to give me had no WiFi reception (and absolutely no room to walk around the bed it was so small), they moved me to a larger room with two tiny beds. I felt like I was 5 years old. Hehe. Fourth, the heater didn't warm much, particularly with the snowy days! Spent a good deal of time sitting on the heater! Fifth, the Turkish breakfast was wonderful, but the staff was often breaking down before 10:30am. This is also a difficult time for most to make it, as clearly many are late night people (I can tell by the number of people in the smoking area by my room in the wee hours) and/or sleeping in on vacation. Even the hostel I checked out before this had breakfast until 11am. Plus, they didn't refill much, so I never did get to try the scrambled eggs, even when I made it to breakfast by 9:45am. But what was there was quite good. Finally, the WiFi didn't work for 80% of my time here, or was horribly spotty and impossible to use. Not sure what happened, but WiFi is included in the price of the stay, so probably should be reliable to some degree. The hostel I checked out before this also had strong and reliable WiFi, so I'd expect better here for the increased price. Overall, I would stay again, but don't feel it was worth the price ultimately. The only reason I didn't ask to move my room was the headache of repacking and trying to get everything to another floor. Plus, the concern that the WiFi wouldn't work or I'd be put into a closet-sized room. I would probably vocalize these issues if I returned though, or would hope they read their reviews and consider them seriously. The room was beautiful and comfortable. The pillows and blankets were like clouds. But my list above is a good reason to either assert yourself with the staff or stay elsewhere. read more

I spent 5 days at Azade Hotel and LOVED it! First and foremost, the staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. They provided maps and took the time to highlight key tourist spots. The room was just beautiful, clean, quiet... All you need. Now LOCATION: Perfection! It is located in Old Town - Sultanahmet. We had breakfast every morning on the rooftop overlooking the Bosphorus River/Marman Sea. Simply breathtaking! We walked about 1.5 minute to the Arasta Bazaar which formerly was the chariot stables for the Hippodrome (also very close). Then a few steps later we were walking through the Blue Mosque, another 5 minutes to Haja Sofia and/or the Basilica Cistern (wicked awesome!!!!), then to Topkapi palace was just another short walk... The Grand Bazzaar was only about a 15-20 minute leisurely walk from the hotel... Scores of wonderful restaurants are all around the hotel so each day you can sample wonderful local dishes...(also with rooftop seating). This hotel couldn't have a better location - history in all directions. Add the lovely rooms, wonderful staff - you couldn't ask for more! Thank you! read more
