(First Time Customer- Pick up food) Yum! Absolutely hit the spot! I got two plates of enchiladas, which came with beans, rice, chips and sauces. One was chicken and other cheese. No complaints. My wife wanted to try the food there so I ordered a molcajete and some drinks. I was very disappointed, the food is not one bit authentic Mexican. Just because they throw in a nopal doesn't make it authentic mexican food. The food had no flavor and somewhat of a bad flavor on the chicken. I thought the side of beans and rice would be a small bit decent amount, I was wrong, they give you about 3 spoonfuls of each. So I gave this a 3 because normally when I have a sope the actually sope itself is a little thicker. Everyone makes them different of course, depends maybe what part of Mexico you are from? Also, I wasn't able to cut it with the butter knife or fork, it was way too fried, hard for my taste. Normally you can cut it with the fork and it just wouldn't let me so I had to eat it with my hands. The meat flavor was good, and veggies were fresh. Burrito. It is so small. I was expecting a large burrito for $10. You will be disappointed. I was. My cellphone is larger than this burrito. Asked for no salt on breakfast burrito without meat. The cook put EXTRA salt on. Yes they put EXTRA salt. it was a mouthful of inedible saltiness. When a customer has a food request there is a reason. People, people, people! This is a brand new restaurant! Cut them some slack! It can take months before the kinks are ironed out! Then, remember, sometimes you're having a bad day, and sometimes, the restaurant staff are having a bad day. While a Yelp review is a judgement, let's not be THAT judgmental. Cutting to the chase, there are three issues that have been brought up. First, the service. I believe that this has been rectified. Service is very attentive and professional but friendly. The waitstaff even asked us questions and offered different salsas. Nice! Second, folks have griped about the tiny ramekins of beans and rice. I think this shows good judgement on the part of the owners. You know that half the time, you don't finish the lake of refried bean puree, or the mountain of rice, or the bowl of crappy salad. With a taste of the beans and rice, you know if you want more. You just ask your server for more and s/he happily brings you more! For my money, the beans are FIRE! They are just like my friend's mom's carne en sugo made with a bit of chorizo and bacon. Super yummy. Third, folks have complained about the prices. Seriously? My darling ordered the rib eye steak tacos. The plate was overflowing with FOUR hand made to order flour tortillas filled with tender rib eye steak pieces, carmelized onions, and a quarter of an avocado on each taco. Delicious! Normally, you'd only get three tacos on soggy machine made tortillas. Here, you're getting QUALITY ingredients and GREAT portions. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas Suiza and again, received FOUR hand made to order corn tortillas filled with chicken breast and covered with cheese, salsa verde, and crema. Again, a SUPER value! Beers on tap are only $5/pint. Nice wine or sangria poured generously can be had for $5/glass. Just because this is Mexican food doesn't mean it has to be cheap. This is quality food! There will always be people who expect food served the Prunetucky way with the lake of pureed refried beans, the mountain of rice, and the crappy salad. There will always be people who say this isn't authentic. Haters goin' to hate. This is a modern take on a Mexican taqueria and I like it! It's fresh! read more

I hate to say this but the negative reviews are off the wall. Why would there be negative and stupid reviews about this excellent neighborhood restaurant? I call FOUL. I think there is an effort to discredit them with some weird stories to drive their score down. I know we all have our own opinions about what "Mexican Food" means but please: this is a very clean and friendly place, with excellent food and great portions for the price. People don't like the fact that the bean portion is small. Ask for more but I would guess the restaurant doesn't like throwing great food down the drain. As the saying goes, "You only have one chance to make a first impression." I really want local businesses to succeed, especially because we have so few good ones in this area. That's why I'm always surprised when a local business opens and is simply not ready for prime time. This is the case with Ayi Caramba. The front end of the restaurant doesn't yet have the skills or training to create a warm and inviting atmosphere to make you want to come back. You feel kind of awkward walking in instead of feeling welcome and ready to enjoy a great meal. Second, the food was just OK. Nothing spectacular. There's a ton of places we can all go to for that. I came here today for lunch. Was waited on by the lady server. The food was delicious! The service was horrible. She didn't check on us once. We needed our drinks refilled but never got them because she never came back. There was another couple that got tired of waiting for her so they just left. She literally disappeared. I didn't get my check. I had to walk up to the front, which is no big deal but we waited for our check for 15 minutes and she still never showed up. She walked right past me as I paid. I visited this restaurant again and I was a bit dissatisfied with the sopes,-- the corn tortilla was very tough, just couldn't cut it with a butter knife or steak knife. The as appetizer, chorizo with cheese was very oily. The waiter to a very long time to bring me the entree. The tortillas are home made and they were very good. Ay Carumuba was definitely so-so. I really hoped we could find something better in Prunedale for Mexican food. The nachos were awful...fake nacho cheese poured over chips with some guac and beans....no tomatoes, no olives - no imagination. I asked for rice with beans in lieu of meat and put on the nachos and it came on the side instead. Ugh. The shrimp tacos were in limp tortilla shells and just okay. Anyway - won't be going there any more :-( read more

My super burrito was off the hook. The chorizo and cheese simple but okay. The enchiladas look better than what they taste. The quesadilla was massive I love huge portions but the small cup of rice and the small cup of beans bummer I was about to ask if there was refills. Fries are delicious. We just went here for the first time and the service was good as is expected for a new restaurant but the food was tasteless and overpriced. We wanted a booth so we were seated in one but the seats were covered in crumbs. We ordered the shrimp tacos and the shrimp was rubbery and the tortillas were dry and cold like they've been left out for a while. We also got a vegetarian burrito that ended up being mostly tortilla. I did really like the salsas that came with the chips and salsa though. So, the manager did approach us and decided to remake our food to go in order to make sure we got something that we were happy with. The food was better than what we received in the restaurant which we appreciated but overall, to us the food is not worth us coming back. read more

Amazing place! Great decor... finally a "trendy" place at the heart of Prunedale. The food is real, high-quality Mexican steak and tacos. This is the kind of taqueria you can expect in La Condesa in Mexico City or some other nice areas. Tacos with real arrachera or ribeye meat, instead of the overcooked meat that is common in California. The staff is amazingly nice, and super kid friendly. Good selection of beers (although this is a place where they still could expand a little) and some good Mexican sodas (your usual suspects: jarritos, sangria, etc). All in all, if you are tired of "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurants, this is what a modern, trendy and high-quality Mexican place is supposed to taste and look like. The tortillas are hand made; the pico de gallo top notch and the queso fundido amazing. The tacos are prepared "como dios manda", and not with the weird ingredients you often find north of the border. So far I've been to "Ay Caramba" four times and every time they have been amazing! It's great to have a good Mexican place in Prunedale! The staff is kind and attentive. They've remembered my husband and I every time we go in. The food is also great. As far as dessert, I've only tried their churros and they did not disappoint! I moved to Punedale a year ago and have been looking for good restaurants in the area. On a whim me and my kids decided to order from Ay Caramba. We all got burritos. We were all pleasantly surprised. The burritos were some of the best I've had. I usually get the Carnitas Burrito With the whole works. The tortillas are really good. The filling has a really good combination of textures and flavors. These are really filling. The first time my son and I have had a hard time eating the whole burrito!
