Called this place for a late minute appointment the day before I was leaving to go on a vacation. They were able to get me in for a much needed haircut. The salon is clean, fun vibe, and my stylist was fabulous. She did a great job from start to finish. Very profession and personalble. I went here bc Savana (co-owner) had a last min appt and I snagged it so I could get my hair done before my baby shower. She was 1.5 hours from me, but seemed worth it. I showed her a pic of a bleach and tone inspo and was honest with my hair history. She told me if I wanted less maintainance we should do a full highlight, so I agreed. I did not want a root tap bc I wanted it super blonde/white to the top like my inspo...(which she said was achievable). She told me $250 for color and then $15 for each extra bowel of bleach (she used 3 and maybe 1/8th of a 4th but charged me for 4) and $30 for toner. We started the color, she was very friendly. Her assistant helped her and even did the washing, checking on processing and toner-- all without a cosmotology license. I know this because she bragged to me about how great of a stylist she is and her in cosmo school is a waste of time, as well as she doesn't listen to her instructors etc. I came time to wash and blow out my hair...when I saw it, I was shocked but I put on a happy face bc maybe it was the lighting or I wasn't used to that color. I paid my $400 ($40 tip and $10 credit card fee- wow). It was YELLOW. I was there for 5+ hours then had to drive back the 1.5 hours home (total 8 hour day). I waited and stared at my hair. 2 days in I did purple shampoo and still looked like Slim Shady. I finally texted Savana who was kind enough to offer to fix it but I wasn't going to go out there again. I finally asked for a refund, to which she gave me HALF of my money back. I have since been to 3 different stylists for consultation who tell me they have no idea what happened and why my hair turned out this AWFUL. Anyways. I'm getting my hair fixed in JANUARY bc my new stylist does not want to continue to damage my hair. :) Hope this helps. read more

I followed my stylist Caitlyn to this location, previously I got my hair done by her in Scottsdale. Not only is she, but this location worth the extra commute. The salon is decorated well, clean and filled with friendly faces. Caitlyn, is the BEST stylist I've ever gone to. Anyone who knows me, understands what kind of hair trauma I've had. When I first started my hair journey with Caitlyn, 4 years ago, my hair was brittle, short and mistreated. My hair is now healthier, longer, stronger and has the best lived in color I've ever experienced. She's a true gem. A HAIR THERAPIST, if you will. I want to start this lengthy review off by saying, I have a chronic illness I have been suffering from for months so the appointment I scheduled for, was something for me to look forward to and make me feel good about myself after basically being bed bound for months. It was a treat to myself to make myself feel human again. I booked with this salon after carefully reviewing their work on social media, and was excited to book. I made sure to text the main number with multiple pictures of my hair, and even asked 3 times what I should book it as, because I wanted to make sure the hairdresser would have enough time to do what I want. I TRIPLE checked. The day of my appointment they had a cancellation ( wonder why ) and asked if I could be moved up an hour, I said sure and was genuinely excited. Upon arriving, I felt as if I was getting dirty looks from the front staff, probably because I don't really look like anyone in the salon. After being rudely greeted by Caitlyn we sat down to discuss what I was wanting done, what my inspo was, what my realistic expectations were. The entire time she had a smug look on her face, and disregarding everything I said. I sat and listened because she is the professional and I am not. ( but that's not to say I don't know the ins and outs of salons.) I was told in text that I would book as a full highlight and root smudge to achieve what I was wanting done. When I get in the chair Caitlyn proceeds to tell me that it is definitely a color correction, without even doing a test strand first. Which is whatever , then tells me she doesn't have time to do it today, even though 6 hours was blocked off, then proceed to tell me I'll need like 5 inches of hair cut because my ends are "gummy" which they are not, ( I've had gummy ends before I know what they are) my ends are in fact dry, but they are NOT gummy and it definitely is not 5 inches worth. I explained I texted In and they told me just a full highlight she said she would be right back to check, came back and said she doesn't have any text from me. I then pulled up my receipts and had shown her the number I texted as well as what was said, she left again and said well yeah I can't do anything today and it will have to be a color correction. I said would you have time to just do the full highlights today, and then proceeded to tell me no....... Even though this is what I scheduled for and again she had 6 hours blocked off. Like just tell me you don't want to do my hair lol. She said we can do a hair cut today and was seemingly rude when saying it. I declined the haircut and explained I just wanted something done to my hair today, I scheduled the only time I had between my children, going to school full time, and doctors appointments. Not to mention I genuinely have been bedridden for months and this was the only thing I was looking forward to as a pick me up for myself. I was met with such disdain and felt truly uncomfortable the entire 5 minutes yes, only 5 minutes lol, I was in that chair. I had high hopes for this place, instead for someone to try and pressure me into a color correction to get more money from me, when I know for a fact it was not a color correction, not only that but besides her trying to scam me for more money, her overall presence was just rude for no reason from the start. I have no idea what to say... I don't think people should be playing with chemicals if they aren't worried about people's health and safety. I got my hair done and I told them that last time I got my hair done here I had an allergic reaction I asked if they would use something different. And they said they would. The day of the appointment I reminded them and they said they would. Half way into the appointment the stylist tells me "I don't think you're allergic to this because you would be having an allergic reaction right now." Ummm what the heck does that mean? Also allergic reactions can appear 48 hours after the incident. I was itching right at the appointment, the night of MY SCALP WAS BLEEDING. The next day my face was SWOLLEN. I also specifically reminded them that I was allergic to PPD and they said they wouldn't use it. I asked for a refund just to cover those doctor bills and they flat out told me that it's "impossible" that I had an allergic reaction from there. I really wanted to come back and everything but I'm not interested in going to a place that doesn't even practice basic human kindness. read more

It is so upsetting for me to write this review as I thought I would never have to. I am deeply hurt by both the hairstylist that I have worked with over 2 years and the salon owner who felt that it was ok for me to be "fired" from the salon due some missed appointments because of some very difficult things which have been occurring in my life. I received this text on my birthday which basically indicates that I no longer can come to this salon for my weekly services. I am being treated as if I am a thief and not a customer. I have always treated Cody and other members of the salon with utmost respect, kindness, and generosity (leaving around 30-35% tips, sometimes waiting for my stylist to finish his appointments while I waited around, and staying loyal to this business when I have had so many other options). As a business owner with a company for 400+ employees I would never in a million years treat a customer, better yet, a loyal customer with this much arrogance and disrespect. As someone with ethics, I was going to stop by at the salon later that evening and pay for my missed service, but in any case, I was "fired" before I could even do this. When calling the owner about this matter, they had mentioned how no consent was given for this message to be sent to me. However, I didn't receive an apology which was warranted. You would think after 2 years of giving this business my support, at least this news could be delivered via a professional phone call, however it was given via a cold text message. In any case, Awsum salon feels that they have this authority to "cancel" their valued customers. Who knows, this could very well be discriminatory against my heritage/ethnic background. In any case, I am beyond enraged and upset, will never be returning, and saddened by the audacity that this business has to treat me in such a manner, when I have done nothing, but offer my sheer respect, gratitude, and funds to their business. I cannot sing their praises enough!!! Not only is the salon darling, conveniently located and has great products, but everyone that works in there is very sweet. I started going to Savana less than a year ago and I've never left disappointed or upset. She listens and does what she can to meet my requests, but she's also realistic if something isn't achievable or will take some time. While she was on maternity leave I went to Kyleigh three times who also did an amazing job with balayage and was great at listening to what I wanted as well! Chris the owner is always helpful and friendly and goes out of his way to engage with clients and make sure they're having a good experience. On top of the amazing work they do with balayage and going back blonde, they also blew me away with extensions. We put them in for the first time tonight and I couldn't believe the cost of the hair AND installation was far cheaper than I used to pay for just my hair!!! I put my deposit down on 5/26 and the hair was in on 6/1, so incredibly quick turnaround! If you're looking for a new spot highly recommend going here! The name is a LIE. I saw a recommendation for Awsum Salon from my neighborhood Nextdoor page. The stylist that was recommended is not who I ended up with when I called to make an appointment for a consultation for hair extensions. I wonder now if I would have had a better experience had I insisted on being booked with the stylist mentioned in the referral. I was full of regret after cutting off 10 inches of hair, and after doing a lot of research about extensions I decided to go ahead and do it. My hair is naturally curly, and I love my curly hair (which I told Corey), and just wanted extensions that basically would erase the horrible mistake I made of cutting so much of it off. Corey told me that the curly extensions would be TOO curly (but never showed me what they look like) and said they wouldn't match my curl. She recommended wavy hair extensions which would mean having to buy a curling iron and spending a lot of time on my hair every day. Having curly hair, I've never owned a curling iron, but was willing to do whatever I needed to in order to "get my hair back." The extensions were in a long see-through package and definitely appeared to be wavy. I now know that the extensions were actually straight...straight as an arrow, and only looked wavy because the packaging was shorter than the hair. I don't know if the wrong extensions were ordered or if the wrong extensions were sent BUT...when Corey took them out of the packaging, surely she saw that the hair was straight and proceeded to sew the extensions into my hair anyway. I had no way to see what she was doing in the back of my head or I would have said something right then and there. Corey ended up sewing the beads in SO tight that no amount of Ibuprofen (as she suggested) was working to relieve the pain. I also could not find any position comfortable enough to put my head down to sleep, so I was miserable. I had her personal cell number and really needed to get an appointment to get the beads loosened but being 6:30 in the morning, I chose to text so she wouldn't be disturbed if she was still asleep. When she contacted me back, she made it pretty clear how unhappy she was about the early text, making no apologies for putting the beads so tight in my hair that I couldn't sleep. She also gave me a quick "I told you so" speech. The unprofessionalism continues.... When I arrived back at the salon the next day, I was informed that she had discussed this situation with "the owner" and felt it was only fair to charged me an additional $100 to loosen the beads. I was in so much pain that I didn't even argue with her...I just wanted it done. But really?! I had to pay her to undo the terrible job she did?? And being a new customer (and also enough to be her mother), I was very unappreciative of constantly being called "baby" like I was one of her friends from "the hood". The positioning of the extensions was also an issue, one of the weft rows being attached so close to my ears that I had a constant headache. I decided that I just needed that row removed, to which she charged me another $25 on visit number three. I wish I had actually done some research and seen all the terrible reviews on this place AND the owner before wasting so much time and money. Also, not ONE person in this place wears a mask. Sadly, zero stars isn't an option here. read more

I'm basing my 1-star solely on Management (which is likely the Owner, "Chris") who is apparently ignoring me regarding my refund. My stylist (or an assistant) placed an order for hair extensions for me, and we made an installation appt nearly a week later. On the day of my installation appt, 1 hour before, I was contacted by the front desk to tell me that my extensions had not arrived. Allegedly the wrong suite nbr was written on the label, and they were trying to locate the extensions. I was so upset; 1 hour notice before my appt, the wrong delivery address, and I was leaving town the next day. I asked them to just please refund the full amount; they texted that they would 'initiate a refund for the full amount' that same day. But I got screwed; they accepted Venmo so I just chose that route the week prior. Bad idea on my part! Still no refund, slim options to get the money back if you use that payment method. Owner knows it, and just like other reviews say, he's allegedly 'rude and unprofessional'...... I'm beyond frustrated at this point. **Stylist, front desk, and ambiance were great; no bashing in that regard. Just wished for better (and quicker) notice and customer-handling. read more

Awsum has accommodated me twice on the same day I called for an appointment. The stylists are experienced and knowledgeable. I have a tender scalp and they are always professional and gentle. I was referred to this salon by a friend. Very nice looking salon! I waited a bit to be taken back but was acknowledged that i would be taken back soon. I was scheduled with Joy for what i was looking to do with my hair. Joy specializes in balayage and ombré techniques. Of course i went in with numerous pinterest photos of what i wanted! Joy was honest with me and explained the process. Instead i went with a less hair damaging color. It took almost 2 1/2hrs to get my hair partially dyed, cut and styled. My total cost was $258! I did not get full color so a lil pricey for me but thats just me. Joy was very easy to work and talk with. She was very helpful in styling tips!
