My family has been coming to Awesome Sushi for years and we absolutely love it. It's a small spot in kind of an unexpected location, so it would be easy to miss, but it's one of those hidden gems that's absolutely worth finding. The sushi rolls are always fresh and tasty, especially the Awesome Roll, which is my favorite. But honestly, the biggest reason we keep coming back is the people. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, and the whole place has such a strong community feel. It really feels like family every time we walk in.

Omg the Earthquake Roll is the bizz spicy imitation crab but it taste amazing like real crab, fried scallops with a sauce that's amazing. Service amazing very nice and inviting. Its a small personal place counter seat Service very nice this is sushi at its best .

Always great to visit this local sushi spot. This restaurant is in my local sushi rotation if I'm ever having cravings. Services is always great, staff is always friendly, sushi fresh and yummy. It is on the small side inside as it shares the same space as a repair shop next door. Music is just about right to be able to hear your own conversation. Some roll and special rolls can get heavy on the sauce but that's why I recommend a roll that doesn't have sauce so you can dip it in there Make sure to save room for DESSERT!! Favorites: volcano roll, kaleidoscope cucumber roll, salmon carpaccio, snow roll, house special dessert

As usual- AMAZING!! Food is fresh, consistent, and delicious. Always great customer service from the whole crew. Happy chill atmosphere. There may be a wait due to the compact space but lots of parking available.

Awesome Sushi will forever be my favorite sushi restaurant. I've come here for years and have always seen the same chefs & staff, and they always go above and beyond to make my wife and I feel welcome. I want to give a particular note of gratitude to Nina, who has allowed me to read and study at the sushi bar over the years, spend my birthdays here, and has allowed us to stay past closing on date nights. Awesome is a restraunt, yes, but also feels like a safe space. Also, did you know they recently added sushi burritos to the menu? LOVE!

Decided to drop by and check out the menu and I was instantly greeted by the staff who were friendly and helpful. The ambiance is quaint with a clean environment. They look to have a wide menu of items to select from and the owner generously gave me a Thai coffee to go for just stopping by! I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

My first time there last night with a couple of my girlfriends and we didn't want to leave!! The sushi was so good and fresh and just... awesome! But you know what was more than awesome? The service!! Never have I felt so welcome and valued at a restaurant! Nena... or shall I say... Jennifer Lopez was amazing! Best part of my birthday for sure! She is so funny, kind, and just such a sweet lady that made her customers have a great time. We stayed for almost 4 hours and honestly, probably would have stayed longer if the kids weren't waiting at home! LOL! The ambiance was just perfect... best way and place to catch up with your friends over some delicious roll, sake, and tempura cheesecake! Thanks Awesome Sushi for an amazing dinner and evening! I'll be back soon... too much, maybe!

BEST sushi in Long Beach! We've had Awesome Sushi a handful of times (a few times dining in, a couple take-out) and we're always so happy and full at the end of our meal. Perfect spot for a date night. The restaurant has such a cool vibe and is always clean inside. The staff is very kind and professional, and the food itself is innovative AND delicious. Our favorites are the Awesome Roll, Call Me Babe Roll, Crazy Cal Roll, Love Your Smile Roll, and the Destiny of Love Roll (pretty spicy mango sauce, but the flavor is so good). We also like the cucumber salad and the salmon sashimi as appetizers. We'll keep coming here until we leave Long Beach -- and then we'll miss it!

Really?? We get free dessert with a check in?? Awesome!

Awesome Sushi This place hands down has the best sushi but just located in the worst spot, it's right by the airport and the planes flying over head are so loud. Once inside, you can't hear the planes which it a relief. The staff is friendly and attentive as well. I have only tired the sushi rolls. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. Their menu has different varies to choose from as well. There is a steady stream of people coming in but never packed to where you have to wait for a table.

A long time sushi staple in Long Beach (since 2009), Awesome Sushi has a large menu, centered around their fresh fish, but also having selections for the non-sushi eaters in your party. There are quite a few lunch specials listed on their current and well designed website (check out the 'about us' tab), which is why we stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon, soon after their opening at 11 am. It is located in a free standalone building, with a dedicated lot of plentiful parking. Interestingly, they have remnants of a walk-up/pick-up window in the front (was this building a hamburger restaurant in a prior life?), and with the tinted glass not allowing you to see inside, we thought maybe they were either closed or only doing carry-out. But we found the nearby door, and once we entered, were greeted very warmly by the hostess/waitress and guided to a table for 4. There isn't too much seating inside (maybe 8 tables), so could see a wait during dinner time. The menu is large, with a lot of options on a 2 sided laminated 8x14 sheet. We got some ice water, which gave us time to peruse the menu. We placed our order, with the appetizer coming first along with the soup and salad, and then main entrees soon after. By using the Yelp check-in, we got 2 pieces of complementary Mochi ice cream. Spicy Edamame ($6.95) - A generous amount, well-seasoned. 2 Item Combo ($15.95 for lunch): beef teriyaki, white fish tempura. Comes with white rice topped with furikake , pre-dressed romaine lettuce salad, fresh cucumber pieces, miso soup. Everything except the soup came in a bento tray, with each compartment filled. The beef was sliced strip steak, generous in quantity and decent quality. The white fish tempura was OK...bit greasy and needing to be eaten right away. It had been topped with various maki sauces, which made it a bit soggy. Probably not the best representation of what they can do with tempura. Seared Tuna Lunch Bowl ($15.95 only available from 11 - 3:30 M-F): Came with 5 thick slices of ahi tuna, nicely seared and seasoned on the outside, very raw on the inside. It sat on a bed of white rice, along with various greens, and a lot of homemade onion strings/straws. The dish was expertly put together, with the preparation of the fish top-notch. The fish quality was good...it's been a while since I've had seared tuna, and this version reminded me that I needed to go back to it whenever I can. Salmon Collar ($10.95) - first time having salmon collar. Have had tuna collar and yellowtail collar before, so wanted to see what the salmon version would be like. It was good, tasted like a salmon steak, except it was a bit more crumbly. There really wasn't any nooks/cranies where you could grab the best tasting fish pieces. Mango, strawberry ice cream mochi. - it was cutely decorated and was a good bite or two to finish off our meal. Service was excellent and full throughout, and the check was given and paid at the table. The value was top-notch. As my wife and I were leaving to walk back to our car, we remarked to each other: "THAT was really good"...made the rest of our day that much better.

This place is indeed awesome. Came on a late Monday evening and it was busy! Almost all tables were full. We were seated right away and started browsing the menu. There's a large variety of options, but I went straight for the specialty rolls. I ended up getting 2 rolls, one XOXO and one love your smile. Both were fantastic. They came out quickly, and tasted fresh. Overall I had a great experience here and would come back. It's not really cheap, but good sushi places typically aren't. For a reference point, our total was almost exactly $100 after tax and tip. Together we had 2 bottled beers and 4 specialty roles. The restaurant is a bit tight and a little cramped, but the food more than makes up for any discomfort. I'd definitely consider coming back here if in town again.

Salmon poki, veggie tempura, velvet voice roll.

We sat at the bar and the sushi, chefs and server were nice. We ordered their spicy edamame which was loaded with flavor by far the best spicy edamame. I love the garlic and chili combos with a little citrus flavor. Also ordered the stinky roll, which is spicy tuna on the inside and salmon on the outside which I liked very much couldn't decide on a second roll so I asked the server to surprise us and kind of regret doing that because he had brought us a roll that I was already cringing at reading the description on the menu which was their long beach roll however, the crunch it had on the inside was very nice and not too heavy. I don't feel that asparagus should be anywhere near a sushi roll, but that was my bad. Also ordered their Yuzu cheesecake, which was a no for me. It was too strong and screaming Yuzu simialr to lemon zest and super tiny. The quality of the ingredients they use here are pretty good. I would come back to try other items, but I do not suggest getting their dessert or their long beach roll.

They're also known for their seared Aburi Miso Cod, which melts in your mouth with umami flavors. They also carry uni, giant clam and ankimo but sell out fast. Everything I've tasted has been incredibly fresh and satisfying. From the kitchen, I really like the al dente edamame with added spicy garlic crunch, their take on Agedashi tofu with spicy red radish and fried onion, baked green mussels and seafood tempura. The agedashi tofu and tempura were executed well, crispy and love the added shiso leaf and umeboshi paste to add flavor to the fish tempura. The sushi chef, Kay, and staff are so attentive and nice. Everything came out quickly and empty plates were cleared promptly too. The sushi bar seats about 8 people (my preference) while there are about 6 small tables.
