Three of us went on an Away2Dine canal cruise for a late birthday celebration. We couldn't have picked a better day! We had lovely sunny skies. The boat pulled up right on time, already plated ready for guests. Our menu was Sunday lunch with 3 choices of starters, 4 choices of mains, and 4 choices of desserts. There was also a decent wine menu to choose from as well. Only a few wines were by the glass. I am not a huge wine drinker, but our server suggested I try a wine spritzer which was absolutely lovely!
The canal cruise was a little short of 3 hours. We passed the familiar sites of the Cube and The Mailbox, and went into areas I've never explored before. We saw the British Waterways Maint. Department, cruised through a few tunnels, but we didn't see any locks. It was a really nice relaxing journey. The boat is meant to stop and allow passengers to get out to stretch, smoke, whatever. But the canals were quite crowded today with the lovely weather outside. No free spot to moor up to.
Sunday lunch was pretty great. The starter was a salmon and prawn roulade with mixed greens. The soup of the day smelled fantastic. The roast was good but my Yorkshire pudding was burned. In fact it looked like all the Yorkshire puddings were burnt. Besides that everything else was great. Dessert for me was a lemon mousse paired with 2 biscuits. They offered us coffee and tea at the end of our meal.
Although we bought a voucher for the Sunday lunch and cruise, our drinks weren't including. Our extras (mostly alcohol) came out at £32. I think this is a unique gift idea for those who are hard to buy for. It's a lovely way to spend the day out pending weather of course. read more
