Meat combo
Roger M.

Just from waking past this place, you'd think it would just be another market/liquor store! They do cater to many Ethiopian/Eritrean restaurants in town (injera is made in house) but there is a restaurant in the very back! Portions here are massive! I'm talking about loads of meat, meat and meat! You'll be good just sharing one dish with a friend because you'll be stuffed and super bloated from the overdose of injera that is expanding in that belly of yours. I've tried many joints all around town and each one of them is good but this by far is the best bang for you buck because of the portions. Their meat is well marinated and full of flavor that'll make your taste buds happy. Trust me, the moment it hits your tongue, your mouth will immediately water up. If this is your first time (I'm sure it won't be your last either), go for either their meat combo or veggie combo (if you're a vegan/vegetarian). You'll get a taste of all their popular flavors. Share if you're not a big eater because this will make you stuffed beyond contentment. Please be open-minded and try out new ethnic food if you're one that sticks with the familiar. SD is a melting pot of cultures, especially on El Cajon Blvd. You won't be disappointed!

Vegetarian plate!
Katie B.

Wow, this place blew me away. It was awesome. Everything about this place is authentic. Our waiter was the most friendly and awesome guy I've ever met. He took so much time with us helping us out with what we should order. We ordered the vegetarian plate, and it was great. It came with different lentils and collard green and injera which you use to pick up the different lentils. When we were done eating, we talked for an hour or two, and there was no rush whatsoever. I literally have nothing more to say... this place is just awesome.

Bought 1/2 lb of Berbere spice for $5. It came in an unmarked vacuum sealed plastic bag. I look forward to trying the restaurant.

I drive all the way here from Oceanside just to stock up on their fresh roasted coffee, berbere, and injera.

If Willy Wonka ever pivoted to Southeast Asian groceries, it would look exactly like Thuan Phat…read more This place is a full‑scale Vietnamese fever dream disguised as a normal supermarket. You walk in expecting Vons. You get Saigon. The produce section alone deserves its own theme music. Herbs, mushrooms, greens you didn't even know had names -- all fresher and cheaper than anything your American supermarket is pretending to offer. It's a straight-up cornucopia. Then you hit the meat counter and suddenly Ralphs and Vons feel like they should issue an apology. Marrow bones, femurs, trotters -- if you're making pho, ramen, chicken stock, or just want to feel like a culinary warlock, this is your playground. You will walk out with ingredients you didn't plan on buying and absolutely no regrets. Every aisle has some kind of delightful chaos. Dried pineapple flowers for homemade bitters for your signature cocktail? Absolutely. Industrial-sized bags of frog meat? Listen... maybe not for me. But if you need it, this is the place. No judgment, only abundance. It's as big as any mainstream grocery store, but stocked with so much cool stuff it feels like a teleportation portal to Southeast Asia. You come for one thing, you leave with twenty, and somehow you're still thrilled about it. Five stars. A must-visit. And if you start making better broth after shopping here, you can thank me later.

There are plenty of items that I've never seen before, but I always find a nice person in the aisle either shopping or working for the store to explain to me what something is and how to work it into a dish! They have a lot of vegetarian items in the frozen food section. I haven't disliked one of them yet. One of my favorites is burdock patties which very closely resemble in texture and taste a McDonald's hamburger! I also like the shredded vegetarian lamb, their marinated chicken, and today I bought textured protein beef steaks to try. I know that some of the bigger producers of vegetarian and vegan foods have somewhat of a limited line of taste to try, so here's a store with an expanded vegetarian protein frozen food line. I posted one of the pictures below, and then, guess what? Kit Kats in matcha flavor, oooh! You'll find their aisles are prominently marked with signs above. Many visits Iv'e found they are sampling one to three items (always tempting.) Free large parking lot outside. Right along the bus line. Cash or card.
