    Airport avis shuttle
    Holly W.

Easy pick up and drop off. My husband received an email while we were flying alerting us of our check in, aka car pick up parking lot #. We made it through the airport to the shuttle pick up location. We waited about 8 minutes (not bad) and the double bus shuttle pulled up with some decently comfortable seating and plenty of luggage racks. We easily located our car in the appropriate parking spot. It was also easy upon returning the car, plenty of employees were on site to get you lined up for drop off. Three shuttles were waiting to take us back to the aiprort. No wait. Why 3 stars? 1. Our car had some scratches we didn't see upon pick up due to it being dusk 2. The car had a funny smell 3. I found a pair of Oakley's under the seat (my cell phone fell)

Decided to give Avis another try and was very unhappy with my decision! Waited over an hour for a charter bus to arrive and pick us up. Called multiple times to Avis that we were there waiting, mind you this was during business hours so charter buses were flowing pretty frequently with the other car rental services. There were other people waiting as well and calling for the same reason and nothing. Seriously ridiculous! The only good thing was the check in process which was smooth and easy. If it's not one thing going wrong is something else with Avis! I am not likely to rent from here again!

Been waiting for one hour. Screaming customers. Angry customers. Not enough agents.

Worst rental location in America. As a president's club member, you get treated like crap and no car is ready so you have to wait one hour in line. Avis is a joke. Worst rental company in America.

We booked the car back home and paid for it online. We were at the Detroit Airport and waited for the shuttle to take us to the rent a car center. We must have waited 20-30 minutes. When the shuttle finally arrived she told us that two drivers called in sick, so they were short staffed. When we got to Avis getting the car was fast. The agent just asked for the confirmation number, driver's license and a deposit for the car. When we got back the car it was nice and clean. The only thing was the light came on for an oil change.

Given a car with a quarter tank of gas

I arrived here at 10:30pm on a Thursday and picked up my car fairly quickly. There was a long line to exit the lot. While waiting I noticed the car only had a quarter of a tank. When I got to the line I asked the attendant to please make a note so I don't get charged. He said I would be charged and needed to re enter the lot and go get gas. So I went back in to find the gas pumps. There were no employees around so I started filling the car myself. While filling the car an employee did come out and tell me I'm not supposed to be doing that. I explained the situation and he just said oh okay and walked away. No offer to help. Then I drove back up front and had to wait in the long line again to get out. I was around 11:30 before I was finally able to drive away. In the daylight the next day I noticed the car had not been cleaned either.

Terrible wait, only 1 person working the desk, 15 people ahead of me when I first got in line. 1.5 hr wait To get a vehicle. Do better Avis, this is an embarrassment.

Only two people serving both Avis and Payless customers.

If you're looking for a car rental location at DTW I absolutely cannot recommend this place. I would say the only good part of the experience was that the shuttle driver from the airport was very friendly. That's where it ends. I arrived at 10:30 on a Friday. There are about 10 or 12 service kiosks at which employees could theoretically serve the volume of customers who are surely looking to rent a car over the weekend. But how many employees were working? Two. Surely they were working with vigor and enthusiasm to help get the line that extended to the door serviced as quickly as possible. Nope. It took me two hours to reach the counter. Absolutely ridiculous. I am in town for a quick day work trip. I wasn't counting on the car rental picking up being a quarter of my time. They need to hire more (and better) employees immediately.

It was nice seeing my name on the screen when the shuttle got us there. The only issue is that service is only provided during certain hours of the day, and when your plane arrives at 11pm, you have to go inside, and wait in the extremely long line where they are understaffed. One of the staffers did say for me to just go pick out the car and gave me an upgrade for the inconvenience which was nice. I would rent from them again. 2025-11 #562

I took the time this morning to create an account with Budget and sign up for Fast Break so I could go straight to my car. After taking the shuttle to the car lot I wandered around in freezing rain and couldn't find where to go. I went back to the counter area and found someone that would listen to me that told me that Fast Break was "unavailable" today and I'd have to get in line. A line a lot longer than when I arrived but zero communication from Budget ... Yeah. Fun. 2 counter attendants and like 20 people in line. No way I get to my destination on time. They have QR codes posted everywhere to scan to shorten time then don't bother to keep up their end of the bargain yet if you complain, it's not fixed and no one cares so what is happening in America these days? Bad service, long lines, rude people... Goodness! I tried and still lost :( Budget was really really bad today on my first (and last) experience with them Also, the shuttle from DTW? Driver didn't even try standing up to help people with luggage even when a passenger struggled to get a heavy bag up the steep steps. Just sat there staring. And still had a Tip Jar 2 feet away. Yikes!

I still get confused that National is housed with Alamo when I need to go inside, in this case to pick up a car seat. There's really no issue, but it seems like a lot of unnecessary branding, if they are really the same place? Streamline and cut the marketing budget! I was also disappointed with the car seat. It was fine. It fit, but based on the other car seats I've been acquainted with recently, I am not confident in its accident rating. Also, for such a basic seat, they couldn't put it in the car for me because that could have made them liable. I get it. That's the policy, but it's weird. I suppose these are more complaints about National as a company than this location, though. The service at the rental office and checking out at the gate is fine. It seems to take longer than it does at other places, but since I get there faster, I suppose it's a wash.

While shuttles for all other rental car companies and hotels arrived regularly the Budget shuttle never appeared. I waited approximately 45 minutes. During that time I called the direct phone number for Budget multiple times and received only an outgoing message stating the office was closed. I also contacted Budget's 800 number and was told there should be a phone in the shuttle area to request pickup. There was no such phone. I asked multiple DTW employees all of whom confirmed there was no phone and that waiting was the only option. Two other parties were also waiting for Budget during this time. One of those parties discovered that Avis and Budget share an office so we boarded an Avis shuttle. Given the lack of shuttle service and unanswered calls I believed Budget was closed but the office was in fact open. When I reached the counter I was assisted by a representative named Christian. He attempted to rush me by suggesting I take an electric vehicle, which I had not reserved, despite there being minimal customer volume at that hour. I declined. When I asked about extending the rental by a few hours and requested pricing information his answers were unclear and incomplete. Christian then loudly announced that he was taking a specific car, repeating it so other employees could hear. This behavior was unusual and, in retrospect, appeared deliberate. The vehicle I was given was in unacceptable condition. It had a strong cigarette odor, visible dirt and mud throughout the interior and exterior and extremely dirty windows that impaired visibility that became apparent when daylight broke. Because it was still dark the full extent of the condition was not immediately apparent. I initially I thought it was dew and poor wipers. The vehicle was also not provided with a full tank of gas. I returned to the counter and informed Christian that the car smelled strongly of cigarettes and requested a different vehicle. I was told that all the cars smelled like cigarettes. Another employee offered to spray the vehicle. A third employee applied a deodorizing spray through one door and at my request it was sprayed through the others. The chemical odor was irritating but at the time it seemed preferable to the cigarette smell. When exiting the lot I informed the attendant checking IDs that the fuel tank was not full. I was advised to either return inside to have it corrected or document it with a photo. Given the poor visibility caused by the dirty windows, I chose to take a photo and leave. Approximately 10 minutes later the cigarette odor returned at full strength. I drove with all windows down and wore a mask yet experienced throat irritation, nausea and difficulty breathing. I realized I could not tolerate this condition for a 4 day rental. I contacted Budget's 800 number and was initially told the vehicle must be returned to the original pickup location, despite being over an hour away. After an extended back-and-forth, I was told I could go to any Budget location. I drove 25 minutes to the Sterling Heights location where I was informed they had no vehicles and were turning away customers with reservations. I was told that due to the approaching weekend other locations likely also had no availability and that I would need to call each location individually. I contacted the 800 number again and was told the airport would have the most availability. A representative suggested I take the vehicle to a car wash. This was not a reasonable solution; cigarette odor embedded in fabric is not resolved by a wash, and deodorizing sprays had already caused additional irritation. With no alternative, I drove an hour back to DTW, losing a substantial portion of the day correcting an issue I did not create. Upon arrival, the return line extended out the door. I was assisted by an employee named Janey. Although I requested to speak with a manager, I was told management was in a meeting. Despite this, Janey handled the situation promptly and professionally. During an extremely busy period, she provided a clean vehicle that did not smell like cigarettes, was free of mud and dirt, and had a full tank of gas, basic standards that were not met earlier when there was little to no line. Janey resolved in minutes what multiple employees failed to address. Her professionalism stood in stark contrast to the rest of this experience.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was tense and unprofessional. There was an older middle-aged woman, Monique, yelling across the room at customers to get in line. The way she spoke was shockingly loud, aggressive, and completely unwelcoming. It set a negative tone right from the start, and I could sense that other customers were just as uncomfortable as I was. When I finally reached the counter, the interaction was far from what I would expect from a business that prides itself on customer service. Instead of a polite greeting, I was met with a cold, rushed, and impersonal demeanor. It was clear that she had no interest in providing any level of courtesy or professionalism. After I handed over my ID and driver's license, things took a turn for the worse. While processing my payment, Monique yelled at me not to pull my card out of the machine, raising her voice in a manner that was not only rude but completely unnecessary. Her tone was abrasive and demeaning, leaving both me and the other customers around me in shock. People were looking at her, shaking their heads in disbelief at how she was treating a paying customer. At that point, I had to respond and told her not to speak to me like that. I couldn't believe how unprofessional and downright hostile she was acting. This level of disrespect is unacceptable in any setting, but especially when dealing with loyal customers who come to your business expecting a basic level of service and respect. It's clear that Monique's behavior is not only affecting individual customer experiences but also tarnishing the overall reputation of this location. I am urging the management at this location, and corporate, to take immediate action. This situation needs to be addressed seriously. I would strongly recommend reviewing the security footage to witness firsthand how she is treating customers. Her behavior reflects poorly on your brand, and I find it hard to believe that I'm the first person to raise concerns about her conduct. As someone who has rented from your company multiple times, I can honestly say that I have never had an experience like this. I am now reconsidering whether I will return to this location in the future, and I imagine other customers feel the same way after interacting with her. Monique's attitude is driving people away, and I hope you understand the urgency of addressing this issue. It is essential that corporate hold her accountable for her actions, or risk losing the trust and business of many loyal customers. I truly hope this matter is taken seriously and resolved quickly
