The first meeting should have clued me in- paying $180 per hour for his professional time, I was very frustrated when Mr. Avery took personal call after personal call from clients and his wife. Committed to seeing this process through, I gave him the entire amount for my case and all of the information needed which took hours of data entry. The office staff was unable to enter all the information correctly, I sent reminders to fix errors, checked in to see if they had all the information needed, and never had my phone calls or emails returned. At the Trustee's hearing my lawyer admitted to receiving my tax return but misplacing it, and said he would have it to the Trustee by week's end. A month (and numerous phone calls and emails later) my lawyer still had not provided a copy of my tax return. This has delayed my dismissal, and when I attempted one final communication that call again has not been returned. The end result in my case is having to work directly with the Trustee's office to finish my case which is a breach of contract by Avery Law Office, which I have decided not to pursue because I have wasted enough time with them. Final review is EXTREMELY unprofessional, rude, unorganized, and nearly a complete waste of energy- I could have done this case myself and spent less time and $1400 less money. At the most, give him once chance to make a good impression and if he fails for you too DO NOT put down a retainer and move on. *Update: 4 months after discharge date and I am still finding out about collections accounts that were supposed to be part of my discharge that Avery didn't process correctly. If you care about your paperwork actually getting taken care of at all go somewhere else. Yes crystal was nice at first and so was everyone else, but everytime I wanted to get any sort of update I had to call them and check In. Never once did they call me with an update or just to let me know where things were at. I called serval times to make sure there was nothing else I needed to do. I called serval times to make sure everything was getting taken cared of. Everytime I did call I was just talked to on speaker phone in the office and it always seemed like crystal was all over the place and too busy to actually be focused on my case personally. Anyone else in the front office didn't seem to know what they were talking about. Even getting my reaffirmation agreement to them in the first place was a mess. I was told they didn't have it only to find out it was in Justin's email the whole time and crystal just wasn't told about it. After that I was reassured that it would get taken care of. My car loan did not get reaffirmed after me calling and making sure it was getting taken care of. I was told over and over again that they were taking care of it and everything was fine, that I was in good hands, that I had nothing to worry about. Only to find out after my bankruptcy was discharged that my car, my ONLY car that I was greatly concerned about was not reaffirmed and was discharged as well. When I called Avery law to figure out what had happened they said well we did our due dilengence and sent it in the mail we can't control if it mail makes it to the credit union and gets filed. Are you serious? Not apology nothing, just over and over again while raising her voice at me that it Isn't their fault and they can't control the mail. What the hell did I pay you $1700 for? They could of called to make sure the paperwork was filed and my case went the way it was supposed to but they did not. Or even just told me that I needed to call them to double check things that there was even the slightest chance that my car wouldn't get reaffirmed. My credit union said they never even received the reaffirmation agreement. So my car is no longer in a contract because Avery law didn't make sure it was reaffirmed or let me know to make sure. Now I would have to reopen my case and pay them even more money for their error or lack of professionalism in making sure their paperwork actually gets filed. Save yourself time and money. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Even if it's a smaller company maybe you will get taken care of better. To me this case changed my credit score and life situation for atleast the next 7 years, my credit score would of been higher right away having my car on it but to them I was just another case. I have to worry daily if my car is going to get taken because I no longer have a contract to back me up. All because this company did their "due diligence" and relies on the mail system to deliver their paperwork. Even though mailboxes get broken into and mail gets lost and mixed up daily. Also the only way I even found out that my car was discharged was because I ran a credit report and saw it. No one told me no one even called me to let me know that my bankruptcy was discharged. Ryan is a very nice person. Unfortunately he is young, inexperienced and disorganized. When I first hired them to handle our bankruptcy they offered me a few hundred dollar discount if I paid for the whole thing up front. So I paid the whole amount thinking that it was paid and that was all I would have to worry about. When he had us fill our our schedules we were careful to fill them out carefully and to be sure to list all of our assets. I had a rental house that I had put in the name of a trust. Like I was supposed to I listed it on the schedules as well. Ryan, the person we had hired as the expert, and to make sure we did everything correctly, never asked me if our real estate was in the name of a trust or LLC. When Ryan looked over our schedules he told us that the $1,700 a month in rental income we were receiving fit within the income requirements and that we would be able to keep it. We filed and the Trustee found that the house was in the name of the trust and kept all but one payment of the rent. Because of this the bankruptcy drug on for 5 months, requiring extra hearings, and negotiations. Ryan filed so many amendments to our original schedule that on the last hearing the judge rolled his eyes and asked him if this was the last one. Ryan is supposed to be the expert, and had he been more thorough when we were filling out the schedules we would never have had to file amendments. Throughout this whole process Ryan never said anything about this extended time costing me more attorney's fees from him. I have hired several attorneys before and they always provide you with monthly statements and let you know well in advance if they are going to need more money. Ryan said nothing. And since I got a discount for paying it all up front I assumed I was paid in full. Then two months after my bankruptcy discharged I received a bill for $2,058. Ryan said in his letter that accompanied the bill that he was sorry if this was a surprise. All Ryan had to ask when we were filling out the schedules was if our rental house was in our personal names or not. That would have saved the bankruptcy from taking two months longer, I would have gotten to keep the 5 months of rent that I lost and there would have been no need for them to bill me an extra $2,058. Had they been organized enough to provide monthly statements I would have known I was going to have to pay extra, and would have made different decisions in my negotiations over the rent with the trustee. I like Ryan. He is a very nice man. But I am very, very unhappy with his service. read more
