Avenue... Avenue... Avenue.. Why?! I'm so sad that this place has not impressed me in my two visits here because I live down the street. This place is always packed and I can understand why, but it's definitely not because of the food. The waitresses are always super cute, and our waiter yesterday was a good lookin' dude (I don't care I'll say it!). But the food.. come on! I had a halloumi and ham sandwich on chibatta. It was not amazing. In fact it was the furthest from amazing without being terrible. And it was $13. OK, you have to realize that if you're going to any outdoor cafe on 30th Ave, you're going to be paying up the ass for just about anything, but give me a break. The Salad of all things, was the best part of my meal. The Antipasto plat we shared had a good tzaziki, but the hummus, and the feta with roasted peppers (forgot what it's called) was just OK. Even my buddy's chicken pita sandwich was just OK. I don't mind paying $11-13 bucks for a sandwich, but it's gotta be good. Ovelia down the street on 30th ave has this same model, but at least their food is awesomely delicious! Good points though, the drinks are always good. Except when you're paying $6/Corona. It's a god damn Corona w/ lime. OK, not going down this road. But the blended drinks are pretty awesome, and the sangria was bomb too. And the seating outside is awesome. It's nearly always packed when you want to go, and the service can be a little slow because of it. But really nice place to sit and chill. read more

One of my favorite go-to spots for delicious food in Astoria. Yes there's tub thumping techno music incessantly playing but there's also a crowd of people who are lounging. And not just because there's sports playing throughout the restaurant, or because the bartender is friendly (which they are), but because the food is just so darn good. My fave? Avocado crab salad and some halloumi cheese. End the night with a crepe and you'll be relaxed and loving Avenue yourself. read more

So I stopped into avenue to grab some lunch since I work nearby and Order the Philly Wrap, it was sooo good it had a good seasoned steak the peppers and onions were cooked perfectly and the dipping sauce was sooo good. It was pretty pricey for Lunch but I would definitely recommend giving it a try it was really good. I was really hungry on a Saturday afternoon and this was the first place that we past. Boy was I disappointed. The service here was almost non existent. Once we were seated it took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our existence. Finally our waitress came and took our order and brought us our water. My Fiancee politely asked for a straw and after 10 minutes got up and got her own from the bar. We did not see our waitress again until I flagged her down for the check. As my hunger grew and stomach rumbled I really regretted my decision to stop here. The food arrived 40 minutes later. This was far to long to wait for a steak sandwich and a frittata. The sandwich was skimpy on the steak and mediocre at best and they gave my fiancee fries instead of fruit. Also, not once did someone stop in to check in on us or refill our water glasses. 30th Avenue is filled with Greek Cafes that are filled with people at all hours of the night. Flo, Athens, Grand, and Avenue are the many draws to this busy street. All the cafe's offer Greek food, coffee, and liquor that draws all the scene and young kids to the area. For once I would like to go to a resturant where the food is the focus rather than the image of the place. Avenue Cafe is not a place to eat a meal at. They have tables but most are busy. There is a couch area in the back (where I sat) that is comfortable and is filled with iKea design elements. My girlfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite and ordered a couple of sandwiches. They are served with french fries and a house salad. The fries are reheated from a freezer bag, the house salad is a couple of pieces of lettuce, tomato with some feta on top, and the sandwich was a wrap where the burned elements of the bread over powered the taste of the sandwich itself. It was pretty pitiful. The menu is filled with traditional appetizers, deserts, waffles, and other such things. But if the rest of the food tastes like the sandwiches (which are not hard to mess up), then I would avoid it. If you like the young astoria scene, if you like drinking and coffee, and if you like sitting around laughing at how the people look around you, head to Avenue Cafe. Just avoid the food. read more

Please take this with a grain of salt...it could have just been an off day for this place. I had a drink here this past Friday and while the physical place was nicely decorated and conveniently located with other bars in Astoria, my friend and I moved on after only one drink. The drink prices were a little higher than I expected for Queens...but I guess if you're used to Manhattan prices, it was quite normal. The music was loud and techno heavy, no variety so that was a little bit of a minus. Now the bad part was...it was hot, so the sides were open and we were situated in the inside half, but there were so many smokers that we may as well have been smoking ourselves...it was very unpleasant and while I would try this place again, I would definitely either sit at the bar, or deep inside this cafe. I'm a big fan of Nutella and these guys aren't afraid to smother their crepes in it. Their other food is great. Try the Avenue Pizza! All their drinks are reasonably priced as well and not watered down. I've taken my friends here quite a few times and they always feel underdressed. There's no dress code here, but the place is beautifully designed. They have TVs throughout. When there's a big game on, Avenue is fun! Outdoor seating let's you enjoy the weather and your food/drinks at the same time. This place does, however, get pretty loud. The background lounge music is meant to drown out the noise from other tables, but sometimes can be a bit much. Only when you sit inside though. read more

Recently visited Avenue cafe with a colleague of mine on a Friday afternoon. After having walked Steinway street on a hot summer day, we were ready for some cold beverage. We were greeted by a lovely hostess and an equally beautiful & friendly waitress took out order. We sat outside and ate our meal with the locals. Granted that they took a little while to bring our food -- it was worth the wait. We enjoyed talking to the staff and service was great for us! The food - right on par! The service could have been faster -- but it gave us time to enjoy our appetizers! The ambiance was magnifique! I felt like I was hanging out with the locals. Price: YOU GET MY YOU PAY FOR! I came here for lunch with my friend. We were seated quickly. You have the option to sit outside when the weather is nice out .I had a guacamole burger with fries. The burger was so juicy and tasty, and the creaminess of the guacamole just added greatness. We also had pita bread w/guac. This place just makes awesome guacamole period! I wish there was a zero stars option. Called the night before to make reservations for 14 for Mother's Day brunch. When we go there they seated another group at my reserved table....wait thats not the worse part. When I spoke to the hostess who wore a tacky hot pink pant suit she said she allegedly wasn't told of our reservation. We still wanted to eat there and said we would sit on the other section not in a booth but NOT ONE SINGLE EMPLOYEE came to set up our table or make us comfortable, to make matters even worse, the tacky hostess sent a group of men to sit right next to us where we were our group was to sit!!!!!!!!!!! Avenue, avenue, avenue. Used to be my favorite place on 30th ave, and then something happened. The service there went down the drain. All waiters care about is chit catting with each other or flirting with customers. The food is usually good, but takes so long to get to you that by then everything is cold. I still love the fact that you can smoke in both outdoors sections, and the coffee is very good, especially the greek frappe. I will give this place 3 stars and try going back there here and there, hoping it will get back the good qualities it used to have. read more

They also used to substitute strawberries for raspberries for me in their Romeo and Juliet crepe, as I don't like strawberries. All of a sudden, one day, they decide to stop without telling me. Having eaten here for brunch this past Sunday, I think we went wrong with actual breakfast items. Everyone else seemed to be ordering mainly coffee, drinks and salads. The sausage had an odd taste that we couldn't place. The steak and eggs consisted of flank steak, which was tough and under-seasoned, so we sent it back. I asked for my eggs scrambled hard. In my mind, that meant no runny bits; in the chef's mind, it meant burned bits and lots of crust. A dish that came with bacon only came with two strips, and most of the fat wasn't rendered. The server was nice, but not that attentive. The chairs look like they've seen better days. I bet this place looks stunning at night, though. On the plus side, we enjoyed the coffee frappe, waffles and potatoes. read more

We came here for an impromptu brunch and it was delicious. The portions were big, the flavor was spot on, the waitresses were super friendly. We got the Greek salad, which comes with a side of pita bread, and the grilled chicken sandwich, which comes with your choice of salad or French fries. For the grilled chicken sandwich, you're able to choose from like 5 different kinds of bread - which was great. I got the ciabatta and highly recommend it. I wasn't a fan of this place. The sangria I ordered was good though. Strong and had a nice flavor. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich on chiabatta bread. The chicken was overcooked, the sandwich was dry. The ratio of bread to everything else was too much. I had to trim the bread off. It came with Swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato, but no type of sauce. Too dry & the bread was hard. It also came with a side of fries, I didn't know that because the menu didn't specify so I wasn't able to ask if there were other options. The fries weren't crispy. They were limp and soggy. Our waitress came to check on us when we first started eating but then never returned to ask if we wanted another drink. Our glasses of water were replenished often by a busboy. The outside seating is nice except for the fact that ppl choose to smoke their cigarettes way too close to where everyone else is dining. Friendly, attentive service. Trendy yet comfortable decor. Music is a bit weird- euro house is probably how you'd describe it. Some nights they have a DJ, which actually is rather good and not annoying as one would presume. As for the food, their grilled chicken wrap is delicious; the chicken is grilled perfectly without being dry, the pita for the wrap is warm and fluffy. The accompanying Greek yogurt sauce is the perfect addition. I would pass on the seafood salad containing shrimp, salmon, and octopus. It's quite bland and lacking in substance. The salmon had little to no seasoning- the shrimp were however great. For $16 I would expect a better salad though. A while back I ordered a salmon with strawberries salad from here, which I loved. Unfortunately I don't see it on their current menu, which surprised the waitress as well when I asked if they still served it. Their frappes and cappuccinos are good. I never tried it, but their crepes look delicious The crowd is a young, trendy good looking group of people. Introduction: We went on a Tuesday night and this place looked reasonable. It was busy and had a lot of out door seating. We decided to hit this spot instead of Grand Cafe, poor decision on our part. The Good: The wine is cheap by the bottle. $20 to $25 for a bottle so this would be a decent spot to start off a Friday or Saturday night with a group of friends. The Bad: Appetizer: Mozzarella and Tomato with Balsamic - Poor execution. The mozzarella was generic and not even a quality you find at Citarella or Whole Foods. The tomatoes were not very fresh either. Main Course: Vegetarian Crepe (Tomato, Mushroom, Black Olive, Cheese) - No other way to describe this other than "not very good." Greek Burger (Pita Pocket, Feta Cheese, Hamburger) - My burger was done correctly and was actually pretty tasty. I would eat the hamburger again. Summary: The service was terrible. I asked for a water refill and the guy took the glass to never return. The food was served and we never saw the waiter again until we flagged him down for the check. We would have liked more wine or to take a look at the tea/coffee/desert list but it was impossible to get the guys attention and after waiting forever we decided to just leave. If the service would have been at least average the restaurant would have scored 2/5 for their cheap wine and edible burgers but the lack of service drove the score down. I had never been to Astoria and a friend of mine familiar with the area recommended this spot to start the night. Very nice place in terms ambiance. Inside it's lit like a fancy lounge and they have plenty of outdoor seating. Staff was nice and attentive. My friend suggested the Avenue Club, which was great. The fries seem like they are freshly cut and made and go great with their chipotle sauce. I figured I might as well order the Avenue X cocktail while I'm at it, continuing my trend of ordering items on the menu named after the establishment. I use to rave about this salad like crazy. It was mixed greens with cranberries, honey roasted walnuts, I hold on the onions and bacon bites, seasoned with balsamic vinegar and pita bread served with grilled chicken. Yum yum yum... A great place to grab a bite and enjoy the atmosphere. This place has great outdoor seating and a very unique indoor decor. The back of the restaurant features trendy leather couches and a large 50 inch LCD TV for viewing. I ordered the Cubano Panini with an coffee float. The Cuban sandwich was fresh and the bread was well seasoned. In addition to this, the fries were also seasoned with sea salt and herb seasonings. The waiter was also very helpful in recommending my entree. My only gripe was that the table was not cleaned very well prior to arriving and was quite noticeable. Belgian Waffles with drizzled Nutella. It's an okay substitute for crepes, which I prefer 100%. The reason we had to go with this as a finish is because their crepes are dull and empty. I like to go to Astoria primarily for the delicious crepes that I haven't been able to find in Westchester County as of yet. So please do yourself a favor, and pass on the crepes at this location. The service was friendly and the food was delicious! The busser continuously filled our waters when needed and took the plates when we were finished, afterwards though, it took about 20 minutes to get someone's attention for the check, the waitress who brought it to is was even friendlier than our first.
