L'Boutique Tarifa - L’Boutique Tarifa Hotel 2-8-18 -- reception

L'Boutique Tarifa is, per its name, a little boutique hotel in the town of Tarifa. The staff is…read moresuper-friendly and helpful. When we arrived, close to midnight, I really wanted to go see the lights of Tangiers, which I'd read were very visible from the Plaza del Miramar. The owner very kindly offered to drive around town with us, to show us the sites, right then. How cool is that? The hotel was easy to find, even with our lying Google Maps lady's directions. Small, practical, family-run hotel with chic contemporary style. Very personal and relaxed atmosphere. Rooms are cheerful, clean, and meet all the standard needs. Bath has a sizable shower, by Euro standards. Their combination of IKEA and vinyl decals made for pretty sleek boutique hotel decor! Atmosphere was perfect for this Boho surfing/beach town! They use conventional keys, and you get a blue key for your room, plus silver key to access the hotel at all hours. Free Wifi with strong connection!!! This hotel is conveniently located near authentic Spanish restaurants and two grocery stores. Tarifa is a small town, so it's difficult to get lost. You are pretty safe finding your way around whether walking or driving here, though driving you will be hampered by one-way streets (as with any town we visited in Spain). The downtown area is where all the sites are, as well as the trendier restaurants. It did make more sense for us to drive to the downtown coastal area, when sightseeing (Castillo de Guzmán, Puerto de Tarifa, Plaza del Miramar, Isla de Tarifa, etc.). In the off-season it was not difficult to find metered street parking, although I can imagine this would be difficult in the summer months. Tarifa is a very cool casual beach town, with a Cali-type feel. L'Boutique Tarifa embodies this feeling, and offers very reasonable rates on informal accommodations with all you need, and no hype or fuss, which is perfect for a beach stay.

Sigh... I hate to give a review like this... but unfortunately this place looks amazing on the…read morewebsite and is run down and poorly maintained in actuality. I've tried to contact staff and am waiting for a response, but if your looking for a lovely place in Tarife, give this a miss... even if just for a bed, while the room is beautifully decorated, the plumbing is not vented properly and the toilet vent is the shower drain. I closed the windows and turned on he Ac on a hot day to let the room cool down... and returned to the most disgusting smells and it took me a while to figure it out. Someone clearly knows about it too, because there is a very strong plugin room deodorizer used in there. I wish that was all I have to say negatively about the place... but the primary advertisements for Casa Blanco describe this beautiful outdoor space on the roof and I was looking forward to having time to read a book, study Spanish and relax away from the hustle of the cute town. But the outdoor space is anything but relaxing... it is downright disgusting... blamed on the winds by staff, it clearly neglect and as I try to get into a calm happy state and meditate on the wonders of the universe, all I can see is broken wicker furniture, and wonder if it's even safe to be up here. So disappointing and so easy to fix/replace and maintain. Besides that, the place has been redone a while ago w a very nice style, but it's clear the current owners are not putting any effort into maintaining or improving the property. Everything from the chair in unit 7 being disgustingly dirty so dirty that I won't sit on it, to so many lights both in the unit and common areas being out or not wired well, to laundry left in hallway overnight, to bikes and portable beds left out in common areas, to no one being available to discuss concerns w... it's really a shame. Because as they advertise, the location is a 9.5, but the place itself is a 2 just because of the lack of maintenance. It's just poorly run. A real disappointment... and I've signed up for 5 days here... I've asked to speak w someone about the situation.. let's see how this goes. I stayed at The Riad before moving here and it was very nice... was expecting similar at Casa Blanco... I'm very disappointed.

We stayed in Tarifa the evening we came back from a day trip to Tangier. This hotel was lovely…read more Our room was very tiny, but the bed was comfortable, the room clean, and the decor just lovely. The bathroom was also very tiny, but clean, and stocked with the usual amenities. Some notes: -It can get VERY loud. The rooms all face out on the bar area which can disrupt your sleep if you're in bed before midnight. Bring earplugs. The night we were there they were having a huge party and there was a man playing the guitar and singing. We actually opened the windows of our room to listen, but if you are trying to sleep, this might be an issue. -There is free wifi in the lobby. Just ask the front desk for a password. -They will stow your bags for you if you arrive and your room is not ready. -Free buffet breakfast that was quite good. We enjoyed mimosas and toast in their lovely cafe. There is yogurt, ham, cheese, and coffee available as well. -No television in the room. We didn't care, but if that matters to you, just an FYI. -There is a small shop and a spa on site if you're so inclined. I think we paid 75 euros for our room and it was worth every penny. It's close to the dock if you're planning on taking the ferry to Tangier, and also walkable from the bus station if you arrive that way. (We took the bus from Sevilla.) Highly recommended if you're in Tarifa!

To start a good review (perversely) on a bad note: the rooms at La Sacristia are not the biggest,…read moreand in peak season they're not the cheapest, either. Hotel stays aren't determined by fixtures, fittings or facilities, though - it's the time you have that make them. And the time we had was fantastic. We had a great meal in the buzzy bar/restaurant (a mixture of local tuna and local beef, if memory serves), a stroll round the block on a summer's evening for a couple more drinks followed by a great night's sleep. The next morning, up for breakfast and a wander round the lovely old town (which the hotel is at the heart of). Objectively speaking, La Sacristia was good. But for some reason we just had an amazing time - so I'll always remember it very fondly.
