Esher has always had a bit of a gin and jags reputation, which is why I don't really go out in my…read morehome town (can't afford to, love). But for those who can afford the multi million pound homes - think the Chelsea football team and their birds, who all live around here - Bernard of Esher provides all the clothes that you will ever need for a Hello! or OK! photoshoot. Bernard, (don't call it Bernies, they don't like it) has been serving Esher residents for 30 years now. Its premise is that it gets in collections by the big guns - now that is not that unusual, but back when this was considered the sticks, ladies that lunched had to go to Knightsbridge, darling, to get their summer and winter wardrobes. So in the beautifully laid out shop you have got collections by the likes of Diane Von Furstenburg, Luella, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood (Red Collection) and Stella McCartney. Plus a separate room for bags, shoes and accessories. The stuff is gorgeous, no doubt about it; but I wouldn't bother coming in here unless you have serious cash to spend. They don't exactly roll out the red carpet if you look like you are only going to do a bit of window shopping. I swear one of the assistants thought I was a hobo/thief last time I came in (the raggedy parka I was wearing probably didn't help my cause). However, they do have a pretty comprehensive sale on about twice a year, and occasionally you can get the odd bargain.

They are equally happy just to let you browse, its a fantastic shop with really lovely assistants.Try it.

The Bentall Centre is the large shopping centre in Kingston with Bentalls, unsurprisingly, being the anchor department store and backed up with a good selection of 80 chain stores. These are mainly your medium level high street stores. There is a food court, again with chain eateries but I would recommend eating out of the centre as there is a nice variety of eating places in Kingston town. Similarly, I would suggest parking outside as there are cheaper options though they may not be as convenient. I love their super-escalators where you go up 2 floors rather than 1 and there are frequently events taking place in the main foyer area. Also watch out for some good buskers just outside the centre's main entrance.

I was ready to start my next journey and chapter of my life, where the grass was greener. So when I was 18 I moved to Brighton for university.... This review has a point !!!! Now I'm a bit older, better looking and wiser. I have fallen back in love with Kingston and what it has to offer. It's rich with culture and the shopping is really, really good! The Bental centre being a excellent hub for highstreet fashion and gifts, not to mention the variety of cuisines it has to offer. Although, it's south west London and slightly on the border. It's a got a lot to offer and many people near and far will come to Kingston to shop.
