A car themed theme park, but without any rides. Filled with car showrooms that don't have salesmen. All very spread out. Lots of missed opportunities for advertising and merchandise. The only food & drink options are in the huge entrance building. However, all of this is a deviation from the main star of the show which is a tour of the Volkswagen car factory next door. Included in the very reasonable €15 price tag is an escorted tour of the VW factory which bizarrely starts aboard a boat for the ride of a few hundred meters to the other side of the canal where you board a mini train for the factory tour. Built originally under nationalist pre war Germany, this factory was built to make the original VW Beetle, to provide every German citizen with a car. Once, the biggest factory in the world, the place is still mind-blowing. Featuring its own power station, the factory is the size of the state of Gibraltar! Current production levels are an output of 4800 cars every single day!! The tour took in part of the factory which was producing the Touran and the Toureg. I actually came to visit the factory back in 1988, which was a lot less formal than nowadays, back then there were lots of workers on the production line. Nowadays almost everything is done by an army of Japanese robots which cost €500,000 each. read more

The entire time I felt as though I was in the Back to the Future future. Now, I should start by saying I am a lady and would personally rather be shopping but I totally enjoyed a few hours at Autostadt. I came along with a friend who had work to do in the city and needed to kill some time on my own. I didn't know what to expect but the entire campus is so beautifully executed. The most recommended thing to do is to pay the €8 and go up the terrifying elevator and see where the Volkswagens are parked before pick up. The building is huge and seeing the lift move cars around on small tracks 20 stories high is the kind of thing you would normally see roll down a Facebook feed but never expect to experience yourself! I was also impressed with the light up ball that was my tour guide at Audi! Even though it was just a showroom, the lights and the way you interact with the room itself is cool. All the other exhibits had their own pizazz too! These are just the things that stuck out! Well done Autostadt. read more

Let's start by saying IMHO you should either do the "full monty" here i.e. take the factory tour, driving school etc OR then bring your kids. I unfortunately did neither... Therefore I have to say my experience was not really as great as I expected. Especially Bugatti & Lamborghini sections very deeply disappointing, while e.g. Skoda section was basically as stepping into a well equipped Skoda dealer. Sitting in a 911 is of course a nice experience but personally I felt this place was not quite on the level of corresponding Audi or BMW "amusement parks" (Ingolstadt & München) even as a VW owner myself. Part of this non-ideal experience was probably caused by museum being under renovation which meant a big part of that was closed. It was still a OK way to spend a few hours but not really Five Stars for me personally. For kids this very likely would be a nice experience, though. read more

This place was pretty cool. If you are a car freak, this place is a dream for you. The price to get in was reasonable (15 euro/person). We took as 3-hr train ride to get here, so it was nice to go to the cafe and wake up a bit with some coffee. Audi, Porsche, VW, and others each have their own pavillion to show off their cars. You can even get in them, take a look, and take pictures. The staff is pretty nice and is ready to answer questions - even in English. My favorite part was the ZeitHaus, which is several floors of cars with their great histories. Before we traveled to Frankfurt, we looked at the autostadt's website. It didn't list all the possible tours that we could book. Figuring it's a big tourist attraction, we thought tours would be going all day for each type of tour. But they have one time only for each tour. And they fill up fast. So we did not get to do the factory or glass tower tours like we had wanted. 1) Fix the website to be clear about all the tours, times, which are German only/English only 2) Have more times available for each type of tour. read more

Like many people, the Autostadt was the only reasons my friend and I visited Wolfsburg. My friend, in particular, is a major car lover, so it was important that we fitted this attraction into our Eurotrip. It's an excellent place to visit. Autostadt has many different attractions, covering the entirety of the Volkswagen empire. There is a pavilion dedicated to each of their brands, some of which are excellent to visit (such as Porsche) and some of which are very disappointing (such as Lamborghini). The ZeitHaus is an excellent car museum looking back at the history of automobiles, not only within Volkswagen. It's well designed and took up most of my time. Other attractions include a factory tour (unfortunately, there were no places left on this day), a chance to visit the two car towers (really cool), a barge trip on the canal with a commentary about the company and its history, and a chance to drive a Tiguan or a Touareg on some specially-designed off-road tracks. However, some of these extra attractions cost more money, so the costs of a day trip here can add up quite quickly, especially considering the high costs of food and memorabilia on site. However, Autostadt is worth a visit if you love cars. There is enough to keep anyone busy for a day, and some people for two days. It is without a doubt THE attraction in Wolfsburg. read more

I owe an VW and had a wonderful visit to the Audostadt and the factory. I came here with a local. My friend lives about 30 min car ride from here and we came for the day. It was absolutely amazing and I highly reccommend it. There are displays for most the car companies that the VW group owes. Some are far better than others. There is a Bugatti Veryon is one building that was sweet. There is a car museum that has famous cars from the 1880s to the race cars of today! I was fascinated. One the other side of the property are two car towers and a dealership. The way that works is you order your VW from them and come get it in a few days, direct from the factory! Your new car is stored in the towers until you arrive to get it. There is a tour boat that runs from the entrace of the museum to the "guest" entrance of the factory. From there they walk you through a few parts of the mostly automated factory and give you explainations of what you are seeing. I ended up buying a few accessories for my VW solely because now I can say that the part came directy from the factory! The ICE and local trains stop directly opposite of the factory and cant be a far walk. I first saw this while I was on the train to Braunschwieg, the next ICE stop away from Berlin. When I arrived I asked my friend to if we could go there. Highly reccommend if you are into VWs!! read more
