It is located in the Euskaltzaindia square in Vitoria, next to the headquarters of the Basque Government. The traditional options of going to the station by taxi, city car, car or bicycle are joined, in the new terminal, by the alternative of the tram, since the two branches of the Vitorian light metro have separate stops close to the station. When I arrived at this station, I weighed my options to get to the Old town and I chose the tram. I went to get the tram card and topped it off with a small balance. Then I asked where the tram stop was (which was only 2 blocks away) and after about 4-5 stops I was in the Old town. The good thing about the tram card is that it can be used in all buses in the Basque country, so if you are visiting Bilbao and San Sebastian, this card can be used there.

I arrived in Bilbao on the bus and it was just an easy transfer from the bus station to the metro…read morestation. The entire walk was indoors in an climate controlled environment. The signs were plentiful and well set up. I had a public transportation card from Vitoria, which I was able to use in the Bilbao metro and bus system.. All the Basque country networks are now linked so all cities accept each other's transportation cards. The map made it easy for me to find out which direction to take and where to get off. Easy, clean and frequent.

Very easy to follow and took us everywhere we needed to go without much of a fuss. Very clean and on time as well. I wish I could take the metro back to San Francisco with me.

The funicular was waiting for us and we got into the top car, so we could watch the opposite car coming down at us! Once at the top, we grabbed a beverage at the Café Txakoli and walked back to the hillside adjoining the funicular depot for gorgeous views of Bilbao. Will be back! Pro tip: Use the Barik card. It is inexpensive (€0.50 each way) compared to buying a ticket (€2.50 one way and €4.30 round trip).
