I'd forgotten just how good, and genuinely friendly, locally owned business can be and our tendency in recent years has been to opt for national chain stores to buy stuff especially paint, tools etc particularly from a price point.
I did a review recently where a local store wanted twice the price for metallic paint that I needed and the brand the local guy offered was inferior too (it was £33 against £60 for 2.5 litres) so that's quite a price difference - so went went with the National chain.
I do like to keep it local but the price difference here was just a turn off/rip-off and this local store has - to put it kindly - a reputation for maximising their profits.
This time round I needed two specialist small tyres and of course I went to a local tyre depot. Now they didn't have the specialist tyres in stock and on checking they could get them in within a few days.
The man serving me asked if I tried this place. I wouldn't have thought of it at all. So he rang over for me and they had exactly what I needed and better still their deal included the rims as well as the tyres for the price of the tyres in the tyre depot.
When I turned up here I applied their hand sanitiser and joined the Wu Flu queue; within 10 minutes I was leaving with my new made in Vietnam wheels and when I paid I got an additional discount without even asking. read more
