Brought my car n for a clunking sound, and advised that " RECOMMEND TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT AND REAR STRUTS AND PERFORM AN ALIGNMENT," Despite replacing the fronts 2 years ago I agreed to the repair. Well after replacing them they call and advise my motor mount is the problem, never called back with price for that. Oh, and they said only top quality parts will be used only to call back days later and ask for more money because they didn't know what model my car was when first given a quote and needed to order better parts. Later took it to the dealer and they found only the water pump was holding up the engine, and another $3k fix that they [auto evaluators] missed. They represent that they have inspected the cars they sell and that there are no issues. After a week or two the issues become apparent. They act like they didn't know. That's just too bad that you bought a worthless car and they can't do anything to help you. In most cases these are cars they bought off of their long time customers. Those customers decided to sell their cars for a reason. Mark will not tell you that reason, but you will find out sooner or later. I can't wait for his snarky comment below. I needed to have the fan assembly replaced. This is something I had done at Auto Eval a little over a year ago. Considering their 12 month warranty maybe a little consideration on the cost of doing it again at great expense, but there was none. So it went to another shop which cost me less and received a lifetime warranty. Very disappointed. read more

Mark obfuscated my original poor review (read below). I never talked to him nor Bri. Made an appointment on-line. Woman named Robin called me back. Told me that if I dropped the car off a day early it could be serviced early. I dropped the car at 3pm prior day. called 22 hours later (2pm following day) and again spoke to Robin. She told me my vehicle was currently being looked at by the technician. An hour later I happened to be driving by the shop and saw my vehicle sitting in the same spot where I had dropped it the prior day. Thinking that it must now be ready, I went into the office. I was them informed that they had not even looked at it yet. O asked for my keys and left. Will NEVER do business with them again. If you can't be straight with me, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I went in for just emissions and to change my battery, something Valvoline quoted me 200$ for. Auto Evaluators quoted me 300$ for the battery alone. I mentioned how ridiculous the price was to them, saying that you can get batteries for 120-150$ at Cosco or even Menards. Their response was that those were poor quality batteries, so I just told them I'd go elsewhere. Then they told me that they "found" a battery in stock for 190$. To avoid the hassle of getting it done elsewhere, I just agreed to do it there. I get my receipt back at the end of service and find that they charged me 210$ for the battery, 300$ total for the whole service. They also refused to adjust the charge when I asked about it. Don't give this place your business, they charge double what competitors do for the same service. read more

I moved to Webster Groves just over a year ago, and I've taken my truck to Auto Evaluators twice now for safety and emissions testing. Both visits have been fantastic! Scheduling an appointment online was a breeze, and they took my truck in right on time. I was out the door with my emissions passed in about 25 minutes. I had been a customer for 7 years. Yesterday, I went in for sunroof repair as I have a leak. Due to miscommunication, the new gal had written up a diagnosis estimate of 168.00 dollars. They had already fixed other leakage issues in October and all I was trying to have them do was check that those issues hadn't happened again. I could not make myself clear and asked my boyfriend to come help. In the middle of that conversation the owner steps in and says sometimes when there is miscommunication it is best to just part ways. I was shocked. Why would a business owner alienate a customer like that. Guess he has more business than he needs. Of course it rained last night and I have water in my car again. Now I have to find a new mechanic. Some Christmas spirit. They repair was quoted at almost 600.00 in October and was only good for 30 days so I would have had to wait for another quote and the part. Brought our 1999 Volvo in because of stalling / not starting and wanted to minimize our expense as this is an extra car. They diagnosed old plugs for starters. Fine, I authorized them to be replaced. They notified me the O2 sensor was unplugged. I asked then not to replug it as it was running fine before. They told me it was important and i said to go ahead and replug it in. Then they tell me the brake booster is out and it is not safe to drive the car! The brakes were fine when i brought it in. By the way, the brake booster ( vaccum hose, master cylendar) are right by the O2 sensor plug. I mentioned that the brakes were fine when i brought it in and Mark's comment was " hey, don't put that on us"! How unprofessional.....perhaps he could have actully looked to see if maybe his technician had knocked the vaccum hose loose. Instead he called us Hillilies for not wanting to spend the money to diagnose and fix the O2 sensor ( which was not the problem). When I went to pick up the car, they tried to charge me for 2 diagnostic charges that I did not authorize (~$400). I noticed it and they removed it. After saying I should not have to pay for the labor on the O2 sensor as i didn't want it done in the first place($125). They finally agreed to unplug it for no charge, but not refund the $125.. Since the car now has no brakes and spits out black smoke, I would have to have it towed. I don't trust them to unplug the O2 sensor so I am having to tow it to someone I trust and pay them to undo Auto Evaluators work. Mark is Very Unprofessional. However, they gave us a synthetic oil change that we didn't want, which was much more expensive and , as it turns out, we didn't need the inspection [per the license bureau] because the car was only a year old. We feel fooled by Mark at Auto Evaluators, but I'll give you the facts and let you decide. We purchased a Toyota Highlander as is from Auto Evaluators after hearing it was his wife's personal vehicle for the last 5 years and 70,000 miles. It was stated that it had no issues, and in fact, had perfect service records. The only reason it was for sell because she got a new one with a sunroof. We drove the vehicle less than 5 miles from the lot to our home. The next time we got in the car we received three warning messages before we even shifted the vehicle out of park; Brake Malfunction, Check ABS System, and Check VSC System. We immediately contacted Auto Evaluators and was told that they couldn't even look at the vehicle until Monday because they were backed up, but from listening to the warnings the vehicle was still drivable except we would just be without Anti-Lock Brakes if we would need to come to a quick stop they would not be there to prevent skidding. We dropped the vehicle off Sunday night. We received a call on Monday around 5pm that the repairs would be $3100!?!? We literally drove 3.7 miles before we were being told we needed $3100 in repairs?!?! We were then told Mark would pay half of total charges. Charges that included labor charges from a shop he owns. We asked to see the receipt for the cost to purchase the replacement parts, we were told we couldn't see the receipt. Mark stated it is an unfortunate circumstance and we should be appreciative he is willing to pay half of charges, charges in which he is unwilling to even substantiate, and through his own admission include labor charges from a shop he owns. But the story never ends, after the first rain we discover a major leak inside of the vehicle that soaks the carpets and floods the hybrid battery compartment. After taking the vehicle apart to try to dry it out and locate the leak, we discover the metal pieces on the floorboard are completely rusted, indicating that this leak is not new or a one-time problem, I'm sure it's been occurring for months if not years. Auto Evaluators refuses to even discuss the leak with us or help us locate the cause. To say the least, I definitely feel fooled by Auto Evaluators. In my opinion, I believe that they were fully aware of these issues and the reasons why they sold this vehicle, but as I stated feel free to form your own opinion if we should be appreciative as Mark stated we should be with being out $1557 after only 3.7 miles on a newly purchased vehicle that can't be in the rain without flooding the interior and shorting the hybrid battery. If you still decide to do business with Auto Evaluator be aware there is no communicating or reasoning with Mark if it goes sideways. My husband and I tried our best, but he won't let you get a word in and even went so far to tell us that he took into consideration that we could have sabotaged the vehicle. If we were capable of doing that, what would we achieve by doing that on a vehicle we just purchased? Good luck, because we won't be back! I feel like I've been stuck in a nightmare since walking onto Auto Evaluators lot! read more

These guys are too thirsty for revenue, I brought my 2005 Volvo in for a check engine light, oil change, and State Inspections and they gave an estimate of $1,800 to pass inspection and $3,790.87 for a new everything. Had a honest mechanic look at it and determined that all I really needed was new brake pads and an exhaust hanger. Tooo Thirrsty! Go elsewhere.... read more

Found these guys on yelp. Mark and ray was very profession and knowledgeable of cars. They explained everything and made sure I understood everything. Very professional and nice. Pricing seems fair. It wasn't cheap nor super expensive. But I didn't get another quote. I just looked up reviews and saw that they had plenty of positive reviews. One thing that you should know is that they will charge for each diagnoses. To me it's not a bad thing, but someone might be surprised by it. Overall great experience. Very trust worthy. This is my new favorite auto shop for my new Prius. I bought a 2013 Prius from them and they were great every step of the way. The car was even better in person than as advertised and ran like new! Coming home from overseas, I was very cautious about buying a car, but was ready to buy two once I got to the business and test drove the vehicles. I went on test drives with the owner (Mark) who, like all of the staff, is very honest and puts customers first. Auto evaluators even did additional work on the car right before I came to pick it up, replacing all 4 tires for free!!! I was able to drive off of the lot stress free! I walked in not long after the recommendation, and not only was I greeted by a little furry chihuahua (named Finch) but also by absolute gentlemen. I just moved to St. Louis. Had to get my car registered/titled in the state, so I took the much dreaded trip to the DMV. Of course when I got there they told me that I needed an emissions certification done too. This was at 11:45 on a Saturday morning and the DMV closes at 1pm. I called up Mark at Auto Evaluators and asked him if he could help. I went on in and Mark knew I was in a time crunch and he expedited my emissions testing so I could be done ASAP. Bought a car from this place, and the vehicle's windshield was damaged from when I purchased to when I picked it up. They refused to fix it. While the provided a history of the vehicle, there was a strong smell of mold in the car as if it was flooded, and this was not indicated on the history. I have used Auto Evaluators for two of my Volvos now. I have always had great experiences until my December oil change. I got a call saying I was missing a lug and it needed replaced, so I agreed. They then called me back to say the threading was stripped and I would need to replace the wheel hub (an $800+ fix) I declined and he told me it wouldn't pass inspection an it's a safety hazard. After my oil change, I picked up my car and took it home and noticed not one lug was missing but two. I ordered two replacements online and replaced them myself. Literally screwed them on with my own two hands. I have $40 in it to replace them instead of the replacement of a wheel hub for $800+. I was really disappointed because I felt like I was definitely taken advantage of and now I'm going to need to find another Volvo mechanic because I will always be second guessing their diagnosis. They had all my warranty information on file, which was so helpful since I had no clue where it was. Ray the service manager took care of everything even while on vacation. I was considering purchasing a S60 Volvo used. I heard a slight noise that I felt was related to the A/C but otherwise it seemed like a great car. I took the car to a Volvo dealership, explained my situation and paid to have them look at the car. The dealership told me they couldn't find anything wrong. I still didn't feel completely comfortable so I took the car to Auto Evaluator's for a second opinion. WOW, did they do a comprehensive evaluation of the car!!!! Several pages long and repairs needed in the near future were totaling in the thousands! I didn't buy that car. I was recommended to this company by someone but hadn't used them before. I visited Auto Evaluators for a pre-collision estimate of my vehicle after i was in an accident on the highway. Over the phone and in person it was a very friendly environment. I walked into a smiling face which was nice with the poor circumstances I was there for. It was my first accident and I was on the hook for my truck I was still paying on. I was very nervous about the whole process and my insurance was really pushing to tow my vehicle so they could evaluate it. My truck drives fine all damage was cosmetic, but it was extensive. Not knowing what to expect I asked a lot of questions and Mark was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the whole situation. He took the time to break it down for me and inform me of my rights to my vehicle. Even with me dragging my feet and explaining to the insurance company I did not want to let my vehicle go to the tow yard they never gave me another option. Mark informed me that I Do Not have to let them take my vehicle and that adjusters are mobile and can come to me. That statement alone completely took my anxiety away. Then he walked through it with me as he did it. He also reassured me he would fight for me to get what i am owed on my vehicle which took even more worry off my brain! I trusted this place to help me out and sad to say very disappointed with their service. How could washers on brackets to attempt to line up pulleys be missed. Or tires with manufacturing date of 2003 ? I set parking brake and then went to release it, didn't function, looked under car and cable was 1" from the ground and hitting drive line. Drove vehicle and unless shift slow and pull hard on shifter to right it WILL NOT go into 4 th gear. Needless to say it will cost me 4-5k to get vehicle to what I was told its at a "driver" well I will not personally bad mouth anyone, but I would never use them again. read more
