The oral surgery part of the process went ok for the most part, which consisted of the extraction of several teeth. However, for some reason, my wife was sent home without the proper aftercare instructions and mouthwash to use in lieu of brushing and hence an infection developed. So had to go back and get the correct aftercare instructions that the dental tech failed to provide the first time. The real problem has come when trying to get Austin Oral Surgery's billing department to work with our insurance to file a claim on our behalf. It is six months later and we are still waiting for them to sort it out. Part of the problem is with the insurer but the billing department for Austin Oral Surgery has been almost impossible to work with. They keep saying that the proper paperwork hasn't been received. Also, the billing department apparently never filed a claim with our secondary insurance as they said they would. or at least there is no record of it with our secondary dental insurance. They are happy to take your money up front for the procedures, but less willing to provide the insurance refund. There is no reason that something like this should take six months to resolve. read more

Went in super nervous for impacted wisdom teeth. They helped ease my nerves, removed all four wisdom teeth and prescribed me all the goods to take home. Day 2, and have very little pain. I was n feed of a tooth extraction and my dentist had just retired after being my dentist for over 50 years. I remembered he had sent my husband to Austin Oral Maxillofacial surgery and decided to use the same group without now had a location in San Marcos, tx. It was a wonderful experience or at least as wonderful as a tooth extraction and prep for an implant can be. All of the office staff were very helpful with all of the arrangements and payment options...and Dr Tyler Wildey was an excellent surgeon and had a great bedside manner. I healed with no complications and his office even helped me find a new dentist who took my insurance plan. Hopefully I won't have a need again anytime soon for his service but I won't hesitate to use his office if I do. read more

If you have an appointment, don't bet that you'll be seen on time. I waited 45 min and literally walked out. They never said once that they were backed up or running late; no notification whatsoever! Very rude considering they were referred to me. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They don't consider your time. I called the dentist that referred me and said not to ever referral people here & I explained why. They felt so bad. I received a lame "I'm sorry" voicemail from this office - that they lost track of time. Again, like I nothing better else to do. I hope nobody schedules an appointment here. I was nervous when I went into the office because I had a lesion in my tongue that would not heal. I saw Dr Wildey and was extremely impressed with his professionalism. He removed the lesion and biopsy was done. It healed very well and it was just trauma on my tongue. I highly recommend Dr Wildey and his staff. The office told us to wait for a refund from any insurance-paid costs. Two months went by without a word. Finally I called and asked for a status on our refund, and was told an account audit would be ordered. Within minutes I got a call that we were owed over $300 and that the refund would be issued today. I asked why we had to initiate this stage, when Dr. Wildey's staff told us it would arrive automatically upon receipt from insurance. Austin Oral Surgery's billing department representative replied, "well there are just SO many accounts." The receptionist was surprisingly unhelpful and said she didn't know if they could help me because they didn't do the implant. She asked for a local referring dentist, which I obviously don't have. She kept saying that they, themselves, didn't do the implant, therefore she didn't think they wanted to do it. What the heck? I'm in pain, need an oral surgeon, but these folks are disinterested. Within 24 hours of seeing my local dentist for a fractured, (painful) tooth that could not be saved, I was seen by Dr. Wiledy and his wonderful staff. Over 10 years passed by and my doctors told me I had no choice it was time. He gave me the phone number to Austin oral surgery and it was the best referral anyone has ever given me! I was to have a root canal when I found out my tooth was cracked, and needed extracting. I called up my dentist to let them know, and they referred me to Austin Oral in San Marcos. The assistant let me know what all was going to happen and what I'd feel. It sure put me at ease, as the last time I'd had a tooth pulled was before braces at 11. I needed ONE extraction, and had TWO insurance companies backing me. Quoted $1,047 total. After insurance I was to pay $798. I argued (due to insurance) and the price fell to $480 (still high). So I paid them that day. Two days later, today...They ran both methods of payment through again which overdrew my accounts. I inquired and basically was told they only ran it once. So I had to file claims with my credit card company and bank to get the money back where I was double billed, and of course wait. I haven't had ONE follow up call to see how I was either. When two insurance companies (with no clauses about having two policies) both pay 80% of all the work that was done, including sedation, I fail to see why it was so pricey and fail to see how an incompetent billing clerk can bill my cards twice. If I could give 0 stars, I would. They tried to charge me $4000 to get my wisdom teeth removed, and that was after insurance. I had to do a "consultation" with them (in order to schedule my wisdom teeth removal) which consisted of me waiting 30 minutes because their dentist was late. And when he finally arrived the "consultation" lasted less than 2 minutes where he told me I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed (which I already knew) I literally got the recommendation that I needed from their general dentistry. Before I left the "consultation" I asked if I owed anything, and the lady told me no. A month later I receive a bill in the mail despite their ill-informed secretary telling me I didn't owe anything. I called about this, they did not apologize or offer a fair solution to a problem that THEY caused. Michelle was unhelpful. Their dentist was rude. They overcharge, don't communicate well and don't care about their patients. I ended up going to River City Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in San Antonio, where they actually care and don't overcharge. You can get all wisdom teeth removed for $1000, even without insurance. Save yourself time, money and frustration and go there instead of this scam dentistry. You all should be ashamed of taking advantage of your patients. read more

I have severe anxiety when it comes to dental visits, but Dr Wildey and his assistants and hygienists were extremely accommodating and understanding. They all were so sweet to my son through the procedure that was being done. The front ladies went out of there way to help me when it came to my insurance and the nurses and Dr were very attentive to my son. After my experience with the William Cannon office getting my name wrong and not finding my appointment, we decided to try the San Marcos location. I called and made my appointment, hoping that my details were still in the system. I arrived at the appointed time, and again they could not find me. This company is frustrating, their front office is just incompetent. I called my dentist to give feedback, and they followed up. Apparently, someone had input my date of birth incorrectly. I still do not understand. Do they not use name. DOB and even check their daily appointments for a disparity? I am officially done with this company and moving on with my life. I hope this review will help them improve and serve as a warning to others, to ensure their appointments actually made it into their system and the front desk can actually locate them. The staff is very rude and doesn't answer or explain questions well. They were over the top when i tried to leave for 5 minutes to get myself food, because i have low blood sugar, while my boy friend was about to begin surgery. They kept going on and on about how I would leave him and not come back. I felt ill the entire time I had to sit and wait. I realize they tell you this before hand but the lack of human compassion was unbelievable. And to accuse me of leaving my own boyfriend and not returning to take him home is outrageous. The receptionist was less than helpful and her "sweetheart" tone was more demeaning than kind. She spoke to me like i was a child because of my small stature. It got to the point where I was so frustrated with them that I said for get it and removed myself from the building. I didn't even get to meet the doctor and don't really care to just based on the front of house customer service I received. The patients are lucky because they are knocked out. It's the families that have to deal with the front of house staff for the most miserable hour and a half of your life. The fastest way to fuel a nasty Yelp review is to enrage a PR Professional! I have nothing nice to say about the place other than the landscaping isn't half bad but that's outsourced, so does it really even count? read more
